We've all had equipment we wish we'd never got rid of. For me, it's this radio. I owned one over 30-years ago back when they could be picked up for a little of nothing, re-capped, realigned, the occasional tube replaced, and used for many more years.
Beautiful radio. I just got a sx-99. it's in basically great condition, except for the layer of dusk on the inside. do you have any recommendations/methods/ideas on how to clean carefully?
Use some canned air or light air compressor with a nozzle, lightly blow and brush with a soft paintbrush. For harder stuff I use a toothbrush. Don't use cleaners unless you have to. If you do, I use Simple Green sprayed on a toothbrush, then wipe clean. Clean all the tube pins and sockets carefully with a deoxidizer and cotton swab. Test and or replace the filter caps before you power on. There is some good info on internet about this if you search. Nice find! Good luck!
Hallicrafters sure designed some pretty radios, didn't they? It's my opinion that the SX-88 (a rare one) is the most beautiful receiver ever made. It just looks fine as wine, symmetrical, balanced, you know what I mean. I used to have an SX 28 in 1989. I restored it and sold it. My friend didn't like the way my SX28 looked. I told him he was full of bull. I said "it looks majestic." Mike, W5MP.

A friend found and is restoring a Hallicrafters Super Skyrider SX-28. Any idea where we might find a Hallicrafters PM-23 Speaker for sale?

What a great radio-built like a Sherman tank--weighs about 12 tons!-hahah
Built to-----last.
Magnificent condition-a beauty.
Keep it for your grand kids-to let them see that their grandparents knew how to constructed gear that-lasted.
best regards
