I got the original album recorded on 2 mikes at K101 in Houston as soon as I heard them, then, after it sold out, I had people wanting to buy it. I need to get a Cd of it since the album is getting a little crackley.
@lajolipapillon Ah, Theodore's in the mid-to-late 70's. An extraordinary bar, music venue, & all around great hangout. When it's owner, Ted Scruggs married Susan in 1992, Shake performed, singing Two Silver Hearts, Deep in the West, and others from a balcony overlooking the outdoor wedding venue (Ted's yard on Cleark Creek). Most of us are still around.
Saw him and Dana at Saxon's in Austin about 2000. Think it was the firsttime the played together in a awhile, and then saw Shake at Cassbear's in SAa year or two ago. PURE Central Texas.
I went to school in Houston in the mid eighties and some of the greatest times were spent on Sunday evenings way out westheimer where shake often played...not Cooter's although that was great as was Fizz,Oceans, Rockefeller's, that place in the montrose, Tools, Kay's Bar and all the others..wow what a great place to have been then and shakewas a big part of my personal soundtrack
"Deep in the West" has always been one of my favorite songs. I first saw Shake Russell and Dana Cooper perform this song at Cooter's nightclub in Houston, Texas in 1980 when I was a cocktail waitress there. Bought the album from him on the Cherry Records label from Shake that night. Still have it. This song never gets old (wish I could say the same...).

i used to love cooters. i practically lived there. I hung out there with my old buddy Dale Adamson. We worked at the paper together. I miss him. thanks for the great memories!
We probably know a lot of the same folks! I still have my windbreaker jacket and tank top with the Cooters logo, and a lot of old pictures from those days.
Hi, Mudflap. Thanks for keeping the memories alive. Malcolm Bell here; Rick and I built and owned Cooters. I love Shake, too. Sorry that I had to bury Randy Clayborne a few years ago. No, Cooters closed years ago, but we had a great run. Stay in touch.

Hey catndryer! Wern't those the best of times? I got layed many times working there too! I was Cooters' first female barback. The bartenders use to love it when I'd reach into their jockeybox to check their juices...
One of the best songs of all times.....No two ways about it....

Anyone remember Shake at Corkys?

I got tossed out of Corky's once for repeatedly dancing when it was too crowded. One of my all time favorite bars.

One of Texas' greatest songwriters right here. He and Dana Cooper together are a wonderful show.
