For those commenting on the age of the "older" man, one might remember; he wasn't always an old man, but he got to be an old man by surviving his youth. Something to consider.
gotta love all the tough guy responses to any youtube video about martial arts. He's showing the technique and everyone's like "I could kick that old guy's ass" when in reality I bet damn near everyone that's commenting here would get the crap kicked out of them inside 2 seconds.
gotta love all the tough guy responses to any youtube video about martial arts. He's showing the technique and everyone's like "I could kick that old guy's ass" when in reality I bet damn near everyone that's commenting here would get the crap kicked out of them inside 2 seconds.
That "old man" happens to be Koncho Kimo Wall. He is a Goju-Ryu karate and Kobudo master and a legend in Okinawa. He traveled to Taiwan to learn Feeding Crane Fist of which he has mastered also. He speaks fluent Japanese and Chinese and is a highly decorated Green Beret during the Vietnam war. He is a great teacher and Martial Artist
in my opinion, which is just an opinion. i think it would be more rewarding to, while the older gentleman's arm is in check, to twist your hips while lowering your center and bring the elbow into the upper ribs while the rib muscles are stretched. and follow up with a simple sweep. that would give you time to run, or finish him, or re-position yourself. although i also cant argue with this technique in its originality. an elbow of low power to a temple would knock someone out cold.
this is how to attack the elderly, just hurting them enough to let them know who's boss?
no, im joking, i respect all forms of martial arts and i learned something useful from this i thank you for sharing. but if i may leave some advice, which you may disregard, with all respect i believe that techniques should be modified by, and for the individual that uses them the height difference between the two men when the shorter man follows up with an elbow if you notice his feet...
I see why good martial artists often use women, this old man etc when showing. This way, the unready will become wrapped up with appearances and the adept can still decern the truth in what is being shown. Blessings!
how many people when they are in a real fight not a martial arts class fight with gloves and rules and a procter.A real real street fight frezzez up he isnt scared it just happens . bee honest
These people spend years lying to themselves but wouldn't be able to evade a simple jab, cross, hook, upper cut combination even when told when attack is coming.
@BushidoCode72 why dont you wacth closely for a while? maybe you could learn something from them too? Besides that does not seem to be a real aplication.
you sure seems to known a lot...Do you practice any martial art? You dont sound like some one who would
@limpokun I did watch closerly. I also practiced HungGar for many years. I later left and practiced TKD/Hapkido for 8 years earning black belts in both. I also competed in full contact (kyokunshin rules) karate and TKD (Olympic rules sparring - won several championships). I later transitioned to an MMA gym in the 90s to study BJJ and Mauy Thai. So I did fight. And these prereheased moves will fail.
@BushidoCode72 now thats quite interesting, still I believe you could show a bit more respect for others people believes, they may be innacurate but still ritgh to have it, about prerrehaersal moves, they migth fail or maybe not, there are too many factors in apossible scenario as to guarantee eficience...So in the end is all about the basis.I do ,also ,agree with you ,it would take a life time to be more or less good in these styles
@limpokun I know you think that these subtle nerve strikes, pokes, etc. will stop someone. They wont. Just watch UFC tonight. Watch St. Pierre fight (final match of the evening). He started in traditional style (karate) and transitioned to wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, and brazilian jiujitsu ground grappling. These guys above would be taken down by a highschool wrestler and anyone with 6 months boxing experience.
@BushidoCode72 "These guys above would be taken down by a highschool wrestler and anyone with 6 months boxing experience. "
Boxing is faster to learn in a six month time period than a martial art. If your son was getting picked on - you would teaching how to box - first. Boxing teaches power and agressive fighting from day one. Kung fu and karate can be taught the same way if hand conditioning and body contact are taught in the art. Most traditional arts are not taught in a hard environment.
@ChicagoJoe57 I have seen very tough Kung Fu (Sun Dah, San Shoe), Karate (Shidokan, Kyokunshin, etc.) and other traditional stylists. But when they fight, there are no prearranged techniques or multistep motions. It's who punches fastests, hardests and who has better conditioning. In a full contact arena, all of the sudden, all the techniques look the same. Same leg kicks, take downs (wrestlign style), same boxing like punches, etc. So why not train in that? Why waste time?
@ChicagoJoe57 The only reason I posted was because I didn't want TMA guys to get hurt. Far too many traditional martial arts folks have been KOed in a real fight or even in a semi full contact match. I do not want anything to happen to my kids, so I would rather they train in a Muay Thai, BJJ, MMA gym with some Krav Maga self defense, then spend YEARS and THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS learning techniques which would get them killed. Why waste the money or time?
@BushidoCode72 I know what you are saying. Personally, I would teach a kid how to box first unless he was uncoordinated at which time I would teach martial arts so that he could gain balance.
Everything has it's place. I mean some people complain about kata or forms but good boxers all shadow box. It is all good in training but sooner or later you have to experience real pressure of getting hit at realistic speed in order to learn how to fight.
@limpokun LOL I did watch closely. I also practiced kung fu for several years. 25 years later, I know what would work. This wont. Why don't you step into any full contact ring, or just ask for a friendly (light contact) sparring session in any MMA gym and see what happens? No one would really street fight. No one wants to break the law or get hurt. But just see if these techniques could be pulled off against anyone with a bit of training.
These people know nothing about combat. Animal kung fu stylists spend years perfecting techniques that will fail and get their students killed They should instead watch The Animal Planet channel and realize that they are humans, not snakes, dragons, leapords, tigers, cranes, etc.
@Eatmybologna So much closed mind. So much lying to yourself. I hope you are never in a physical confrontation with anyone who actually knows how to fight. You shall learn that this is NOT fighting. Too many Jackie Chan movies for you.
@BushidoCode72 they should watch animal planet so they can watch dragons? ask yourself this, if you woke up in ancient japan, would you walk up to an instructor and challenge him? if you say yes then your either 1. shit house crazy or 2.have more fighting experience then several generations of pure fighting technique perfection.
@MapleSyrupToday If you read accounts of challenge matches prior to 1900s, you'll see that official matches occured different. Most had nothing to do with real combat. As a matter of fact, combatants would even decide on opening positions and attacks. Most wound up being slappy ugly fights I'm sure. But warfare has changed. We no longer line up wiht muskets or launch arrows. We have better more effective techniques now.
ya...this vid is iffy, plus the crane I know always entraps the aggressor and doesn't let go until significant damage is done i.e not just pushing him away
its not that simple when you dont expect the attack. think about it. at school or on the street or wherever the attacker isnt that far from you at all. they're usually nose to nose, almost.
i would never ever diss KF, but this guy cannot be serious. all he did was move out of the way. thats a white belt maneuver.
I agree that this video is underwhelming. I practice this style under Liu Chang I (the guy in black) in Taiwan, and I see him do a seemingly endless amount of applications all punctauted with brutal "short power". I will try to get some other videos up.
The eyes are very vunerable especially with crane and tiger claw applications. These are applications that can be used against someone who wants to grapple.Go ahead grab me while I pluck or rake out your eyes. This is also true for the groin.
great video and style,i purchased dvd but want more, any info on training, dvd, books etc.Been looking for a style that suits me this is it. any help, especially any instructors, would be of great help.
This video does not do Sifu Liu or his Gong Fu justice. This master can hit so hard and so fast in such a small amount of space that it is astounding. Every movement he does has an audible boom that you can hear and FEEL when you are in the same room with him. Truly a great master of "inch power"
Don't worry about the "old Man." That "old man" is Kimo Wall and brought Liu Chang I out of Taiwan and toured the US with him. That "Old Man" is hard as nails and soft as a cloud. He is more well travelled and well versed on Chinese and Okinawan Pugilism than any American Karate pioneer. He just came by my home (again) for 5 days.
I have seen a video of this teacher giving a seminar (I beleive at Mirakian Sensei's Meibukan Dojo), and he was quite "real" in his abilities to use his skills for actual combat--very strong.
By the way, that is the humble and very knowledgeable USA Karate pioneer KIMO WALL sensei of the SHODOKAN (Higa dojo,) who is the uke for Liu Chang I. Kimo sensei is often a guest in my home. He was here 3 or 4 times last year. Great man. He travels to the Fukien province every 2-3 years. (He was the 1st to bring Liu Chang I out of Taiwan to tour the USA. (I'll send pics, Uedo.)
Nice G-Man. So...did I just get called "uneducated" in the arts..? Ouch ;O) . Talk soon. I love the stuff that Chang Sifuu works: simple, effective, not a lot of flash or glitter, just pop!
Nooooooooo, not at all, bro! (What did I say?) I agree and concur that what Liu Chang I is top notch and is very combat strong--Kimo sensei took him on his tour of the US, and he was probably at Mirakian's dojo at some point--(Kimo sensei has several student's in MA, himself (especially the Univ.) so I'd bank on your memory. Noooo, I turn to YOU to fill in my gaps, bro. (I'll fill in details when we talk.) But shoot me an email Sempai, nd let me know what I said. Lotsa Love, Talk soon.)

Ah, I read that wrong. Yes, Liu Chang I is the real deal. Kimo sensei has extensive footage of their tour. WTF was Capt.Red talking about? I had the commerical video--I think Kimo sensei left it with me, but I loaned it to Yari Poker because it impressed me as looking a lot like Wu Zhu Chuan. If like to see it again.
