Learning to play the tenor right now..... My jazz band teacher asked me if I could and I said yes........ Now I play tenor for jazz and my clarinet for advance band!
I'm 12 and my music teacher took a spazz at me for not play lower notes and making them sound high....then he said a bunch of stuff i diddn't get and left me to die on my own...hes crazy
i play alto and i really wanna switch to tenor but i cant really afford an instrument of such high cost. I was thinking about renting one at my school but supposedly theyre not supposed to teach tenor and bari until jr high its going to to be a long rest of the year
people, instead of buying a low quality used saxophone--go to your nearest music shop and rent a beautiful one for around $40 a month! that's what i do. and then one day once you've gotten involved in the jazz community in your city, i'm sure an old player will have something kicking around that you could buy. but until then--play!
when i'm moving down from pressing down no keys down to the 3rd of 4th, it goes up back again, sounds like a teenager having trouble with his voice, any help?
@horbergaren your mouth may be to tight, and when you go to a lower note its up an octave. when you try to hit a lower note your mouth must be looser than if you are playing a higher note or the low note will either not play, or come out an octave above what it should be/
@letters129 thanks, i have another question, you say that when i don't have any keys put down it's a C sharp, but when i do it myself my choromatic tuner says it's a B, any idea whats wrong?
@letters129 it gets the correct tones if i put a guitar tuning machine on on my cpu, when it does an E my tuners shows E. But when this guy blows out a "C#" my tuner says it's a B
@horbergaren youre guitar is at concert pitch the tenor sax is set to the Bb and that means go up 2 on the scale aa#b# so on alto goes down 3 so if it were Bb on tenor its a c #\
@MrBendyStraws One weighs more than the other and more girls play Alto....."One time in band camp"..... something to think about. Then swiping Clarinet or Trumpet sheet music parts is something I did as a Tenor player in school which was fun. Do you know how many of each will be in the class you will take? First Chair usually gets the best parts to play.
Check out on my page my latest video upload of "Papa's got a brand new bag" and tell me what you think of my daughter on tenor sax... About 2 min in is her 37 measure solo...
Im a piano player who plays strings and flute and sings. I just got a borrowed tenor sax last night with no reed so the stuff about fingering is good however his tone is aweful.
horrible tone quality on this video. the way to have perfect tone quality guaranteed, (i play tenor) is to start to make yourself yawn (this opens the throat better) and then start to blow. and like mtownboy13 said, play from ur stomach and not ur lungs. this works every time. ;D
im pretty sure hes a great sax player.. but that tone is something ive never heard before, sounds like he isnt putting enought good quality air into the horn. if you are a beginner, one really good tip that i can give you is to not breathe from your lungs, but from your stomach. and make sure your throat is open.
i know he sounds a little out of tune, but equally you might not be in tune with his sax. Try moving the mouth piece further in or pulling out a little til the pitch matches. Its also how your mouth is positioned. (sorry if you already knew this) good luck :)
Ive been playing Tenor for my fourth year and it seems when I get nervous and play a solo or something , my lips start to shake and vibrate and it makes my sound really weird . Any help on that ?
play standing up in front of the mirror and then move on to playing standing up in front of ur parents or something. ull get used to it but remember standing up
can someone tell me where can i find his dvd???? thanks

It would be hard to find an alto or tenor at around 500.Alto around 1000 for the lowest quality and Tenor can range from 2000 up.

what are the settings on the tuner? it might be on the wrong settings resulting in an off reading.

@horbergaren its because of the way its tuned. Its tuned to Bb. This changes the notes in some way im not sure how though

@drayo31 man thats a stupid system, what scale am i supposed to play in if a guitar player is playing rythm in c? (Concert C)
horbergaren 1 year ago
@horbergaren well guitar just plays at what the concert pitch is so if concert is c# u play c#
drayo31 1 year ago
@drayo31 and how do i know what a real c# is? if i use my chromatic tuner and it says it is a c#, is that the right one then?

i play trumpet, but my band director wanted me to learn tenor for jazzband.
he gave me a tenor on tuesday, and wants it learned by today.
i can make sound on it, i just need the fingerings now XD!
This video did help me with keeping my air consistent and stuff though.
Thank you, and keep up the good work.
