No I dont see lambos ferraris and bentleys with diesel engine BUT I see an Audi R15 TDI which won Le Mans 8 times. But thats not important. DIESEL has many advantages against petrol and petrol has only one against diesel (its faster), but thats not even proven. So I guess everyone knows that diesels need less fuel, are just as clean as petrol cars because they have special filters now, and they are just as quiet as petrol cars now, too. I live in europe I know that. SO: petrol faster? Who cares?

You'll have to excuse some people. Diesel isn't big over here in the states. A lot of people have the misconception that it's only meant for trucks. But those of us in the know look upon European offering with envy. i have a petrol BMW 740i...but I'd trade it for it's diesel sibling in a heartbeat.

Only one? Think harder. Diesels are still noisier, generally less responsive, heavier, less refined, and rely on turbocharging to produce decent power, resulting in noticeable turbo-lag in the vast majority of diesels.

Diesels are NOT noisier, let me give you an example:

Audi A8 4.2 FSI: at 130 km/h 67 dB

Audi A8 4.2 TDI: at 130 km/h also 67 dB

And Diesel has chemically proven more power then petrol. Diesel cars deliver even more torque then petrol cars at lower rpm's. example of Audi A8:

A8 4.2 FSI 372 hp: 6 seconds 0-100 km/h -> 24 mpg

A8 4.2 TDI 350 hp: 5,5 seconds 0-100 km/h -> 31 mpg

Plus there is no disadvantage of turbochargers, so why are you against them?

Got car. It has tiptronic gearbox. S-tronic won't be available untill 2010 on Coupé. Cabrio already got S-tronic.

1 word of advice.. stay away from S-tronics and DSG gearboxes.. may look "faster" in the first thausand miles but are extremely un reliable and un-durable.

if you plan to use your car everyday tiptronic or multytronic is the best choice IMHA

Where did you get that info from?

I have owned a 2.0 tdi dsg from new to 110,000kms (68,000miles) and have had no problems at all with it.

I think double clutch gear box's are definately the way of the future.

I owned a DSG until some months ago and I had a bunch of problems, and looks I am not the only one, NTHSA in USA has started an investigation on this transmissions due to a bunch of the failing in the usa..

you can go on WV vortex forums (google it) to read more about it and read about a lots of other people (even on the forum) that are having recurring problems with DSG's (looks more than 150.000 people worldwide has openden a complaint with VW dealers)

Manual is more fun to drive, but the precision and shiftspeed of the tiptronic is insane. I'm very curious about the S-tronic (double clutch) I will have on my A5.

s-tronic is the audi name for VW DSG.. i have it and even if it's way faster in gear change you loose some of the super smoothness of the tiptronic hydaulic gearbox... especially in traffic use..

comparing the 2 i like more the tiptronic because i do traffic most of the time, for speed and performance the DSG is the best btw..

fast but... so silent it becomes lame and WTF is that so down redline (ok diesel are cool but damm where is the insanely good engine sound experience even a STOCK Civic can be louder (even if its slower) can that...) fast should be heard, saw, and experienced when in motion, otherwised it is biased... I know its a luxury car but sometimes hearing their tech bits can worth more than sleeping while driving letting an hefty of assist doing the work for you... good car, but not properly showed
