"The irony that it is unthinking new atheist types such as you who have unevidenced beliefs."
You can't prove something doesn't exist evidence doesn't work that way. I can't "prove" unicorns aren't real either.
The burden of proof is always on the person making the claim. I don't claim god(s) don't exist. I just recognize there is no valid evidence any deity's do exist.
@RedlineMMA I cannot believe that you are being serious?! Of course you can prove that something doesn't exist- or, to put it another way, you can prove a negative. If what you said were true it would be impossible to disprove the existence of a square-circle, for instance, but its not impossible because it implies a contradiction. One of the standard arguments against theism is the attempt to show that theism implies such a contradicion given the evil and suffering in the world.
@RedlineMMA Furthermore, if you cannot disprove the existence of God and have no arguments against the proposition that "God exists" then you shouldn't claim that God definitely doesn't exist. If you cannot disprove proposition x then it follows that x might or might not be true; therefore it would be senseless to assert that x is definitely a delusion. That is the logic of it, I'm afraid. If you have no arguments against the proposition that x exists, you should be agnostic with respect to x.
@RedlineMMA I would also remind you of the fact that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. If there is no evidence for x this is not evidence that there is no x. That would be a non sequitur, I'm afraid. So, its illogical to assert that because there is no evidence for God (as you falsely suppose) then there is no God (that He is a delusion). You can only make this claim if you have reasons to suppose that there is no God- for instance, that God is inconsistent with evil in the world.
Those scientists are also the extreme minority as most scientists reject the claims of religion.
Francis Collins has no evidence based reason for his beliefs. He merely wanted it to be true. He accepted Christianity after hiking & seeing a frozen waterfall that was divided into three parts. He took this as a sign of the trinity.
You can't make this stuff up...that is nothing more than willful ignorance & delusion.
@RedlineMMA I do not think that scientists are the arbiters of truth. You consult scientists like the Greeks consulted omens and oracles. Are you aware that the verification principle of meaning has long since died? Have you read Plantinga, Swinburne, McGrath, Spitzer, etcetera, on the philosophical and scientific evidence for God's existence? No, you prefer mediocre books such as "The God Delusion", a book discounted EVEN by atheists! Ignorant atheism is still ignorance
You can continue to spout of about your delusion beliefs all you want . however if you ever hope to connive others you have to lay out a valid argument.
What evidence do you have???
Atheism has nothing to do with me rejecting your claims ...I could be a deist or Jewish or Muslim or Hindu & believe the obvious that Jesus was just a man & the christian bible just a book.
@RedlineMMA You said a moment ago that you cannot disprove that God exists. But then you go on to claim that belief in the existence of God is a delusion. A delusion is "a belief that is firmly contradicted by the evidence". Now, if you have no arguments against the proposition that "God exists" then it follows you should be agnostic with respect to God's existence. Therefore, it is unreasonable WITHOUT REASONS to assert that God is a delusion.
@RedlineMMA What evidence do I have? You cannot reasonably expect me to defend theism in a utube posting such as this; however, I can certainly point you in the right direction. If you are interested in serious arguments for God's existence I would recommend the books of Alvin Plantinga (Notre Dame) and Richard Swinburne (Oxford), but many other philosophers could be mentioned. There are good philosophical arguments, as well as supporting scientific evidence, such as Fine-Tuning.
@RedlineMMA In brief, you need to do some homework, but like most unthinking atheists (the majority) you will probably persist in your prejudice, perhaps supporting it with the incoherent rants of the new atheists (who, by the way, are not adverse to dishonesty and deception, probably in order to take advantage of a cultural moment post-9/11 in which they can cash in with mediocre atheist tirades).
@RedlineMMA I notice, by the way, that you provide no evidence whatsoever for your slanderous assertions regarding John Polkinghorne and Francis Collins. If you had bothered to read their work or to listen to talks given by them you will notice that they speak about evidence, about well motivated beliefs, about the reasons in support of faith. Both Polkinghorne and Collins think that Fine-Tuning is evidence that there is a Creator. So, its you with unevidenced belief...!
They claim there is fine tuning in the universe. That is simply there opinion as there is no legitimate evidence of this. The overwhelming majority of scientists reject this hypothesis. Its also a big jump from designer god to believing in Christianity.
Your assertion I do some research is laughable. Go ahead & continue to cling to your bronze age superstitions. I certainly don't wish to talk to you any more.
@bayreuth79 So the majority of atheists are lying, deceiving, morons, who by their own logic should be agnostic, oh and they're all prejudice too? Wow, sounds like an awfully prejudiced statement. By your own logic, you should also be agnostic since you have no evidence for or against a creator. Oh and if the absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence, that also means you can't deny the almighty powers of the holy spaghetti monster.
@drasteek What proof do you have the god didn't create us? I don't believe in god but there is Definitely no proof the shows that god didn't create us just like there isn't enough proof that there is No god. Just because people don't have your own opinion doesn't mean they are DEFINITELY wrong.
@drasteek Here's a question: What Kind of God requires people to worship him? Doesn't it seem ego centric and freaking weird? What would we say to a man who demanded people worship him? I believe religion is a cop out. People love it when they can have someone else to blame for their behavior...like satan "The devil made me do it". If God is perfect, why does he create imperfect people and punish them for being imperfect?
@coconinodave its not an opinion, hes right. Man created god, and if you do enough research you will know it too, that in fact half of the planet is brainwashed into religion for specific purposes.
@drasteek Amen to that, for world peace we need to get rid of all religions and the dirty filthy evil system, people should become aware of what they can actually achieve with love, willpower and awareness, religion and money is the curse of the world, its what splits mankind in groups and makes unbalance.
All religion is founded on knowing without evidence, let that be a clue... especially if you want to be in the position to tell others what to think instead of teaching people how to think for themselves. Making them dependent on others to think for them. Religion = epic fail
@Dzubur93 Not in disagreement with that, Buddhists also do not believe in the creation of a false higher external authority that allows this philosophical crack into our world. Where Buddism fails is it acts as though only our relationship to our world is what creates our suffering, when we now have the very powerful tool of science to actually change or world so that none of us are suffering at all. But Buddhism would be the best choice out of the bunch IMHO.

woohoo if anyone out there loves broadway as much as I do please join my broadway website. It has only just started but there is a musical of the week every week and a showtune of the day everyday. Please come on by broadwaysbitch.webs.com
It's not even accurate. This musical is horrible and rather ignorant toward latter-day saints. Don't take this musical seriously when it comes to your opinion of the church. Please see for yourself. I can't believe how ignorant some people can be.
@RPHSNerdyfun311 how are we supposed to laugh at this when it's not even accurate? We're not even actually called mormons. We're called latter-day Saints. And I'm not laughing because it's ignorant. I'll laugh when people make fun of us because we pray before and after we do everything or because we always have dessert and an activity for mutual (youth group) that consists of cookies and water. I'll laugh when it isn't prejudiced.
@songbird1618 It's SOUTH PARK they make fun of everyone equally. This Musical is making fun of the idea of religion and having fun about it! I find it funny because every mormon I know always looks like they are about to break out in song.
But really. What can you expect from the brilliant (insane) minds of Trey Parker and Matt Stone
@songbird1618 You mean prejudiced like all black men are cursed and cannot join the preisthood until of course God changed his mind in 1978 right? Amazing it took the Holy Father that long to think about it when he is timeless and not bound by our linear concept of time.
@RPHSNerdyfun311 as an "in-active" mormon i have to agree with this statement. i mean come on! its not like they're trying to convince you not to believe. i have a shit ton of mormon friends still. way more than half watch south park lol. my favorite thing about this musical is that a lot of it is in fact true. and in my eyes they really aren't making fun of the mormon religion at all. i mean if you watch mormon movies they make a joke out of the elders all the time. just watch "the RM".
you know i used be an extreme christian, and i mean really extreme like spending all lunch in the chapel, i became an atheist at 5th grade and over time ive realized that the only reason that i believed in god was because i was scared of my clasmates, i used religion as a mean of distraction from my reality, closed down realty, but anyway i thnk that religion is simply an escape, howver religion also gives faith and hope to people and makes thm act good even if it is just under a terorist idea
Personally, I'm an atheist. However, I have no problem with religious people. The only thing I have a problem with are people who judge me as inferior or a horrible person because of something like religious beliefs. It's okay to be religious, it's NOT okay to hate on other people's religions. If all these nutty preachers claiming "all Jews are going to hell" or whatever would just accept this, the intelligence level of the human race would increase dramatically.
Why do people have to comment about religion this show was constructed to be funny not to make some religious point. It's meaner to Africans than mormons anyway.
@ralphredimix Gnosticism and Mormonism are completely different. Gnostics believe that the God of the Old Testament was a horrible, cruel, and inferior God, and that the God that created the universe is impersonal and that you are never able to have a personal relationship with either of them. Gnostics also believe that the spirit of man could be released from its bondage in matter through gnosis (Greek for knowledge). They are completely different religions.
@CarFox6 A gnostic is anyone who beleives that they have secret knowledge from God, it applies to more than one cult religion, including the mormons. Paul wrote letters to the Corinthian church that spoke of how to deal with the problems of gnostisism in the early Christian church and his advice is just as good use against gnostics of modern times, aka mormons. Read your bible. 2 Corinthians.
I am a Mormon. I believe that Jesus Christ is the only way through which I can obtain eternal salvation. You can't take this musical seriously because it wasn't made by members of our church. But it does have a lot of truths of our beliefs. We believe that all religions are true, but that they do not have the full truth. We love all men, and if there is an LDS person who hates another he is not being a true mormon. If you have any questions I would ask that you refer to mormon.org.
@Indyofthedead The mormon support of Proposition 8 proves you are a blatant liar when you pretend the mormon church is all about love. The massively racist claims the church used to make until it *had* to change also prove you're full of it. Not even just just the idea that you had to be white to be in the leadership, but also the foundational documents claiming Native Americans had their skin turned darker as a punishment for being evil.
@Indyofthedead We believe that all religions are true, but that they do not have the full truth... then you don't believe that all religions are true. You don't love them all because you deny everyone who aren't mormons salvation. First to the blacks and then the four corners of the earth.
@bravo723 Wow. That's a great way to deal with your trauma-- direct it at a whole group of people instead of the perpetrator. You sound so rational. You should be in charge of foreign policy.
@bravo723 Yeah, well guess what. I am a Mormon. And I agree with @minipax83 There are a lot of friendly us. Y'know I went to South Korea for my mission. I had a BLAST. So many nice people. So, after that experience. I don't really care what others think, but still. I advice you better watch what you say.. You can get in lots of trouble for bashing others religions. And if you didn't know, mormon is a form of christianity. Thank you very much. And I prefer to be called "LDS". Thanks.
@AmericanGeneration There's no such thing as a form of Christianity. You either believe or you have perverted scripture into justifying your own sinful ways and called it a religion. Matthew 7:15 Watch out for false prophets who come to you in sheeps’ clothing but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognise them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
@ralphredimix In other words, examine your church and ask yourself are they really focused on Jesus and his saving grace and love for us or are they focused on other things and use Jesus to gain some credibility?
@ralphredimix I was basing it on the definition of Christianity. Y'know, the actual one. With the dictionary. And y'know. I know a lot of people don't like LDS people. But they just hate people on their religion. And not their personality. If only you knew. *Sigh* Oh well. Have fun with life. Don't skip breakfast. Important meal of the day~ ^^
@AmericanGeneration What you just said there doesn't mean anything. I think it's shocking that LDS'ers think they are Christians, and some Christians think that too. Don't be surprised when you get to the afterlife and you find you are in the wrong place.
@ralphredimix I never judged you, I simply stated you aren't Christian and might not like where you end up. That's not judging you, that's just a difference in opinion about the afterlife.
@AmericanGeneration you are right. I am a Mormon and if you do look at traditional Christianity we are not Christians. This is because we believe that God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are 3 different beings. I do believe that Jesus Christ is my Savior and redeemer and that it is only through him that I can achieve eternal salvation. What ever that means to you is open for interpretation.
yea there are forms of christianity, idiot, like someone can be a catholic, methodist, presbertaryan, lutheran, but mormon isn't completely a form of christianity but if anything they are very similar in some ways
yes fine it started out that way but now it's not. and let me tell you something dumbass, the chatholic church would burn, torture, and murder people who even suspected to be any other religion but now they don't you gay ass nigger
@sulumsphony66 Catholics are not Christian either. We do not worship the Pope or recognize his authority. We do not deify the virgin mary. Learn about what you are talking about dude, seriously, you sound bad.
@AmericanGeneration Did you know that the Mormon Church has spent more on the retractable roof of the new Salt lake city mall project, than they have on TOTAL charitable contributions over the past 25 years? Not opinion, please look it up. When Jesus was on earth, he strongly preached against the class system, which the mormon church is now trying to prop up. Please learn a little bit more about what you believe in.
@markhill24ify Money doesn't matter. I helped clean an international school here in Harrisburg. With the whole church (Charlotte Central Stake). Money is a thing, so what if we spend it. Mormons do service, and its not ALL about money here. And plus, I'm not that active so I really don't care :P. I'm not the decision maker. I do what I do, and they (The money peoples) do what they want. It's not like I can be banned. Or shunned for that matter. As i said before. I'm not extremely active. Oh well
@AmericanGeneration Can I ask you something. I wonder if it stand in the book if you do something like have sex before your married (just a random thing) you go really what ever you do to hell?
@joestyboy This question was worded a bit weird but I will try my best to answer. Well, if you do, I know the lord won't hate you. If you seek forgiveness, y'know, your forgiven. And it takes time. It's not a "Okay I'm sorry, we cool?" kind of thing. But you can be forgiven and you basically are wiped clean. That make sense? I'm not really a BIG active member. I just go when I want and believe in the teachings. Sorry if I am a little wrong, I haven't been active all my life. (I forget, lol)
@AmericanGeneration Bud, perhaps instead of sucking your Bishops penis in Seminary you should have been in real school, learning proper English. Also, Mormonism is not a break-off of Christianity. If you were even educated about your own religion you would know that the 'Mormons' fled west to escape persecution, they were viewed a sinners by the Catholic church, ie. the original 'Christian' church, for believing polygamy was right. As well as using the BoM to disprove the Bible.
@wailingsloth Woah there that's a little harsh. I don't get why some people say that catholics and mormons aren't christian. Christian just means "a worshipper of christ". That is the only criterion to be able to call yourself a christian. The only reason people deny the "christianity" of other religions is because they dont want to be tarred with the same brush. You're messiah is christ therefore you are a christian. if you dont want anything in common with mormons, pick a new one

No, you prefer mediocre books such as "The God Delusion", a book discounted EVEN by atheists! Ignorant atheism is still ignorance
bayreuth79 2 months ago
@bayreuth79
RedlineMMA 2 months ago
@RedlineMMA You said a moment ago that you cannot disprove that God exists. But then you go on to claim that belief in the existence of God is a delusion. A delusion is "a belief that is firmly contradicted by the evidence". Now, if you have no arguments against the proposition that "God exists" then it follows you should be agnostic with respect to God's existence. Therefore, it is unreasonable WITHOUT REASONS to assert that God is a delusion.
bayreuth79 2 months ago
@RedlineMMA What evidence do I have? You cannot reasonably expect me to defend theism in a utube posting such as this; however, I can certainly point you in the right direction. If you are interested in serious arguments for God's existence I would recommend the books of Alvin Plantinga (Notre Dame) and Richard Swinburne (Oxford), but many other philosophers could be mentioned. There are good philosophical arguments, as well as supporting scientific evidence, such as Fine-Tuning.
bayreuth79 2 months ago
@RedlineMMA In brief, you need to do some homework, but like most unthinking atheists (the majority) you will probably persist in your prejudice, perhaps supporting it with the incoherent rants of the new atheists (who, by the way, are not adverse to dishonesty and deception, probably in order to take advantage of a cultural moment post-9/11 in which they can cash in with mediocre atheist tirades).
bayreuth79 2 months ago
@RedlineMMA I notice, by the way, that you provide no evidence whatsoever for your slanderous assertions regarding John Polkinghorne and Francis Collins. If you had bothered to read their work or to listen to talks given by them you will notice that they speak about evidence, about well motivated beliefs, about the reasons in support of faith. Both Polkinghorne and Collins think that Fine-Tuning is evidence that there is a Creator. So, its you with unevidenced belief...!
bayreuth79 2 months ago
@bayreuth79
Are you still talking to me??
They claim there is fine tuning in the universe. That is simply there opinion as there is no legitimate evidence of this. The overwhelming majority of scientists reject this hypothesis. Its also a big jump from designer god to believing in Christianity.
Your assertion I do some research is laughable. Go ahead & continue to cling to your bronze age superstitions. I certainly don't wish to talk to you any more.
RedlineMMA 2 months ago
@bayreuth79 So the majority of atheists are lying, deceiving, morons, who by their own logic should be agnostic, oh and they're all prejudice too? Wow, sounds like an awfully prejudiced statement. By your own logic, you should also be agnostic since you have no evidence for or against a creator. Oh and if the absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence, that also means you can't deny the almighty powers of the holy spaghetti monster.

All religion is founded on knowing without evidence, let that be a clue... especially if you want to be in the position to tell others what to think instead of teaching people how to think for themselves. Making them dependent on others to think for them. Religion = epic fail

Dzubur93 3 months ago
@Dzubur93 Not in disagreement with that, Buddhists also do not believe in the creation of a false higher external authority that allows this philosophical crack into our world. Where Buddism fails is it acts as though only our relationship to our world is what creates our suffering, when we now have the very powerful tool of science to actually change or world so that none of us are suffering at all. But Buddhism would be the best choice out of the bunch IMHO.

I'll laugh when it isn't prejudiced.
songbird1618 3 months ago
@songbird1618 It's SOUTH PARK they make fun of everyone equally. This Musical is making fun of the idea of religion and having fun about it! I find it funny because every mormon I know always looks like they are about to break out in song.
But really. What can you expect from the brilliant (insane) minds of Trey Parker and Matt Stone
RPHSNerdyfun311 3 months ago 4
@songbird1618 You mean prejudiced like all black men are cursed and cannot join the preisthood until of course God changed his mind in 1978 right? Amazing it took the Holy Father that long to think about it when he is timeless and not bound by our linear concept of time.
ralphredimix 3 months ago
@RPHSNerdyfun311 as an "in-active" mormon i have to agree with this statement. i mean come on! its not like they're trying to convince you not to believe. i have a shit ton of mormon friends still. way more than half watch south park lol. my favorite thing about this musical is that a lot of it is in fact true. and in my eyes they really aren't making fun of the mormon religion at all. i mean if you watch mormon movies they make a joke out of the elders all the time. just watch "the RM".

you know i used be an extreme christian, and i mean really extreme like spending all lunch in the chapel, i became an atheist at 5th grade and over time ive realized that the only reason that i believed in god was because i was scared of my clasmates, i used religion as a mean of distraction from my reality, closed down realty, but anyway i thnk that religion is simply an escape, howver religion also gives faith and hope to people and makes thm act good even if it is just under a terorist idea
breakingmendead 4 months ago
Personally, I'm an atheist. However, I have no problem with religious people. The only thing I have a problem with are people who judge me as inferior or a horrible person because of something like religious beliefs. It's okay to be religious, it's NOT okay to hate on other people's religions. If all these nutty preachers claiming "all Jews are going to hell" or whatever would just accept this, the intelligence level of the human race would increase dramatically.

firefalcoln 4 months ago
thats by definition a gnostic religion
ralphredimix 4 months ago
@ralphredimix Gnosticism and Mormonism are completely different. Gnostics believe that the God of the Old Testament was a horrible, cruel, and inferior God, and that the God that created the universe is impersonal and that you are never able to have a personal relationship with either of them. Gnostics also believe that the spirit of man could be released from its bondage in matter through gnosis (Greek for knowledge). They are completely different religions.
CarFox6 4 months ago
@CarFox6 A gnostic is anyone who beleives that they have secret knowledge from God, it applies to more than one cult religion, including the mormons. Paul wrote letters to the Corinthian church that spoke of how to deal with the problems of gnostisism in the early Christian church and his advice is just as good use against gnostics of modern times, aka mormons. Read your bible. 2 Corinthians.
ralphredimix 4 months ago
I am a Mormon. I believe that Jesus Christ is the only way through which I can obtain eternal salvation. You can't take this musical seriously because it wasn't made by members of our church. But it does have a lot of truths of our beliefs. We believe that all religions are true, but that they do not have the full truth. We love all men, and if there is an LDS person who hates another he is not being a true mormon. If you have any questions I would ask that you refer to mormon.org.
Indyofthedead 4 months ago
@Indyofthedead The mormon support of Proposition 8 proves you are a blatant liar when you pretend the mormon church is all about love. The massively racist claims the church used to make until it *had* to change also prove you're full of it. Not even just just the idea that you had to be white to be in the leadership, but also the foundational documents claiming Native Americans had their skin turned darker as a punishment for being evil.
dunbar9finger 4 months ago
@Indyofthedead We believe that all religions are true, but that they do not have the full truth... then you don't believe that all religions are true. You don't love them all because you deny everyone who aren't mormons salvation. First to the blacks and then the four corners of the earth.

So, after that experience. I don't really care what others think, but still. I advice you better watch what you say.. You can get in lots of trouble for bashing others religions. And if you didn't know, mormon is a form of christianity. Thank you very much. And I prefer to be called "LDS". Thanks.
AmericanGeneration 5 months ago 11
@AmericanGeneration There's no such thing as a form of Christianity. You either believe or you have perverted scripture into justifying your own sinful ways and called it a religion. Matthew 7:15 Watch out for false prophets who come to you in sheeps’ clothing but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognise them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
ralphredimix 4 months ago
@ralphredimix In other words, examine your church and ask yourself are they really focused on Jesus and his saving grace and love for us or are they focused on other things and use Jesus to gain some credibility?
ralphredimix 4 months ago
@ralphredimix I was basing it on the definition of Christianity. Y'know, the actual one. With the dictionary. And y'know. I know a lot of people don't like LDS people. But they just hate people on their religion. And not their personality. If only you knew. *Sigh* Oh well. Have fun with life. Don't skip breakfast. Important meal of the day~ ^^
AmericanGeneration 4 months ago
@AmericanGeneration What you just said there doesn't mean anything. I think it's shocking that LDS'ers think they are Christians, and some Christians think that too. Don't be surprised when you get to the afterlife and you find you are in the wrong place.

Indyofthedead 4 months ago

@AmericanGeneration Bud, perhaps instead of sucking your Bishops penis in Seminary you should have been in real school, learning proper English. Also, Mormonism is not a break-off of Christianity. If you were even educated about your own religion you would know that the 'Mormons' fled west to escape persecution, they were viewed a sinners by the Catholic church, ie. the original 'Christian' church, for believing polygamy was right. As well as using the BoM to disprove the Bible.
wailingsloth 2 months ago
@wailingsloth Woah there that's a little harsh. I don't get why some people say that catholics and mormons aren't christian. Christian just means "a worshipper of christ". That is the only criterion to be able to call yourself a christian. The only reason people deny the "christianity" of other religions is because they dont want to be tarred with the same brush. You're messiah is christ therefore you are a christian. if you dont want anything in common with mormons, pick a new one
