i'm sorry, but i hate all the publicity people get for teaching their dogs how to read. anyone can teach their dog how to read, and a lot of dogs can read. it's not that amazing or special unless they learn new words and can speak and stuff. but the fact is, the only way we know how to teach them is rote memorization. but at least we dont have to buy a "yourdogcanread".
Poodles read too. I have seen them read both printed cards and simple drawings of commands (like a picture of a dog on his back with feet up). Really neat.
Can the dog read 'cursive' handwritten words? Probably not. I think this is down to the owner's perseverance and patience, more than to a special dog. Show any dog a board with 'SIT' printed on it, and say 'Sit' and eventually the dog will learn to sit. Very soon you just need to use the board, without saying anything. Basic dog-training. Any reasonable dog could do it. If dog owners think not, then try it. Just needs patience.
@BattyCuss Not entirely dissimilar to how a child might learn to read. Show a child a page with words on it, say the words, and eventually the child will learn what those funny shapes on the piece of paper mean.
