very cool vid. i really liekd the way you played it, straight forward, no shit. i played this fella myself at my local store through a 212 vintage 30s. it kicks ass.
After looking a tonnes of guitar heads through youtube you can come here and see how guitar sound can be so simple and surprisingly good without all the knobs.
Sry about the same old quiestion but still is this amp ok to play in rehersal room with a drummer? if i am using 1x12 epi cab and a overdrive pedal.or if not then can i do something do make it louder:)
I'm using the same head with a 20 inch Epiphone cabinet and a Hohner blues pre-amp with a pickup for harp- GREAT tone!, and I drop the pickup into a sound hole on my mandolin and dial up the tone on the pre-amp- Great ACOUSTIC sound that way, but limited volume- same for guitar- placement of the pickup is more critical for guitar. With the harps- i can hold 2 or three between the fingers and the pickup and change keys, go to straight and back to cross, Love this amp.
The difference between speaker cables and a guitar cable is that a speaker cable is two separate wires "literally" it just has the black(or whatever color) rubber stuff around the outside to protect it, but a guitar cable is one Wire, and a shield which is like a mesh that goes all the way around the core wire to protect it from interference, The shield is not designed to take the power that comes from your speaker output.
@mcballsauce . your wrong , get over it . if he used guitar cable for the speaker to head it would set on fire sooner or later . so yeah they have the same jacks but they arent the same, dickhead. Speaker cable is just different i dont know the specifics but i do know that its not the same as guitar cable .

jesus fucking christ! the same mono ended male-male cable you use to plug in your your guitar to he amp is what connects your amp to the speaker cab. gtfo noob.
unreal! thanks for resorting to profanity. congrats on being completely ignorant! why don't you try cutting an instrument and speaker cable open and actually looking at it. or, god forbid, READ something!!
I was pretty much sold on getting a Fender Champ but after a bit of research, these babies are way warmer. And you don't have the issue of a crappy 6" speaker to change immediately.
I did change my mind and am really happy I did :-)
One weird thing though - I got mine nearly new from a guy who'd only had it a few months... I thought he'd bought it new, but when I did the alnicomagnet mods, I found that it's got a JJ EL84 rather than a Sovtek! So someone's taken it upon themselves to upgrade the power tube for me... sweet :-D
Your neighbours may never fully realise what a fortuitive escape they have had. You realise how anti-social 15w of Fender Champ valve amp watts are!!! LOL I like these little things but will probably get a Vox AC4 that can click down from 4w to 1w to 1/4w
That is exactly what I did to mine, the standard Sovtek pre amp tube is not very good. It is amazing how much the tone changed with a simple tube change.
luv my epi head..for me the sweet spot's around 2 oclock then I boost that alittle with my fulltone OCD..had my other guitar buddies playing the guessing game when I sent 'em the clip.
absolutely great sound and good idea putting it through you marshall/celestion speakers do you have a circuit diagram for your mod ?. I want one like yours for my studio
Hey thanks for watching. I love the head / cab setup. I've never played the combo version of this amp, I imagine the smaller cabinet of the combo version will make it sound a little different. Either way, it's a great little kick-around amp!
The mods are described below, and they are very simple - just a resistor and a cap. If you are thinking of doing them yourself, please read about working on tube amps and BE CAREFUL!
The amp itself without mods sounds kinda dark and doesn't have as much gain. The mods I performed on it were dropping the resistor value on the input, as well as changing the input cap.
GREAT bedroom amp. Live, it all depends on how loud your drummer is... :) I would guess it wouldn't have quite the volume you would want for VH-type tunes... but it definitely has the grind you would need.
Thanks for your demo....You sound and play fantastic...Most other Valve Jr. demo´s are Heavy or with a dark muddy tone...Thanks to you I will buy one for praticing in my office..Can you reccomend a speaker ?
if you would plug headphones into an amp, will the sound come out only through the headphones and not the amp speaker or will it come out through both?
this by far is the best I've heard this amp without OD pedals. could you help me out and tell me what you put in it to mod it and how much it cost? thanks!
Your camera must have a nice mic. I am getting beautiful sound from my head phones. Of course the marshall youre using as a cab and that gorgeous strat might have something to do with it too - what pickus do you have in there btw??

dickhonesify.
they both have two 1/4 inch male mono jacks connected by a two conductor length of coaxial cable.
thusly, they are the same fucking thing.
mcballsauce 2 years ago
instrument cable is coaxial, speaker cable is a twisted pair and a thicker gauge. so again, not the same thing

@patidot2 On a short run it would make no difference, on a long run the extra impedance might just be an issue but unlikely.

The best way to fix the "woofyness" is to upgrade the preamp tube. I put in an Electro-Harmonix and it fixed the muddyness right up.

how would one of these sound w/o mods but through a tube screamer?
