  • very cool vid. i really liekd the way you played it, straight forward, no shit. i played this fella myself at my local store through a 212 vintage 30s. it kicks ass.

  • I would like to know how this amp was modded. Sounds great, thanks.

  • After looking a tonnes of guitar heads through youtube you can come here and see how guitar sound can be so simple and surprisingly good without all the knobs.

  • Sry about the same old quiestion but still is this amp ok to play in rehersal room with a drummer? if i am using 1x12 epi cab and a overdrive pedal.or if not then can i do something do make it louder:)

  • I'm using the same head with a 20 inch Epiphone cabinet and a Hohner blues pre-amp with a pickup for harp- GREAT tone!, and I drop the pickup into a sound hole on my mandolin and dial up the tone on the pre-amp- Great ACOUSTIC sound that way, but limited volume- same for guitar- placement of the pickup is more critical for guitar. With the harps- i can hold 2 or three between the fingers and the pickup and change keys, go to straight and back to cross, Love this amp.

  • does this head get load.

  • hey man, i love those mods! could you please tell me what you've done? anything like the "gold mod" from sewatt.com?

  • The difference between speaker cables and a guitar cable is that a speaker cable is two separate wires "literally" it just has the black(or whatever color) rubber stuff around the outside to protect it, but a guitar cable is one Wire, and a shield which is like a mesh that goes all the way around the core wire to protect it from interference, The shield is not designed to take the power that comes from your speaker output.

  • So I'm a bass player looking to get a small combo for my band.

    Is 5W too quiet for a 4-piece punk/folk band?

  • @mcballsauce . your wrong , get over it . if he used guitar cable for the speaker to head it would set on fire sooner or later . so yeah they have the same jacks but they arent the same, dickhead. Speaker cable is just different i dont know the specifics but i do know that its not the same as guitar cable .

  • @BradenMusicNation . From one of the BBC's leading sound engineers" in a typical short bun between amp and speaker it would NOT cause any problems".

  • @blackbrooke typo : bun=run

  • cool pinch harmonic

  • how do you mod it?

  • can you tell me how you made the bright switch? where did you solder the switch to on the board?

  • Killer tone !

  • Top of the top.!

  • AC/DC tone at 0:46 !!!

  • im about to get this amp, can you recomend any type of tubes for me? im a classic rock person

  • Winged-C

  • killer chops, killer tone!

  • i want one but id get it with an A/B switch so i can go from my fender to this every now and then for clean to dirt tones

  • did you find that the overdrive on the stock unit was a little harsh sounding?

  • ONE KNOB?!

  • this thing is only 5 watt right?

so is a speaker cable realy required?

i mean could i also use an instrument cable?

  • same thing, man

  • @mcballsauce it would still work. they are not the same thing though.

  • dickhonesify.

they both have two 1/4 inch male mono jacks connected by a two conductor length of coaxial cable.

thusly, they are the same fucking thing.

  • instrument cable is coaxial, speaker cable is a twisted pair and a thicker gauge. so again, not the same thing

  • omfg... we arent talking car audio here, so again you're confusing the boy.

  • this isn't car audio! it's universal. they actually work differently. if you don't know, just don't say.

  • unreal! thanks for resorting to profanity. congrats on being completely ignorant! why don't you try cutting an instrument and speaker cable open and actually looking at it. or, god forbid, READ something!!

  • they're probably "the same" because you're using thew wrong cable

  • loltard.

  • guitar cable works for speaker if you want to eventually ruin your head!!

  • @patidot2 On a short run it would make no difference, on a long run the extra impedance might just be an issue but unlikely.

  • Comment removed

  • Great sounding rig you have there! I have one with the trio mod and LOVE IT. These are awesome amps!

  • What mods have you does on the amp?

I have the stock amp and i can get nice distortion with my pedals.

    Thanks.

    Sorry for the english.

  • The JB sounds really great but the Texas ... It's a pity :)

Nice playing and recorded sound thanks for the demo.

  • Hey joe

  • how the bright switch works?

  • Very nice, great playing, nice tone

  • i want to use this head for metal using a metal muff electro harmonics pedal would you recommend it for this

  • it would prob get a cool marshall vibe

  • yeah! this head was built for pedals.

  • I was pretty much sold on getting a Fender Champ but after a bit of research, these babies are way warmer. And you don't have the issue of a crappy 6" speaker to change immediately.

Think I may have changed my mind...

  • I did change my mind and am really happy I did :-)

One weird thing though - I got mine nearly new from a guy who'd only had it a few months... I thought he'd bought it new, but when I did the alnicomagnet mods, I found that it's got a JJ EL84 rather than a Sovtek! So someone's taken it upon themselves to upgrade the power tube for me... sweet :-D

  • Your neighbours may never fully realise what a fortuitive escape they have had. You realise how anti-social 15w of Fender Champ valve amp watts are!!! LOL I like these little things but will probably get a Vox AC4 that can click down from 4w to 1w to 1/4w

  • The best way to fix the "woofyness" is to upgrade the preamp tube. I put in an Electro-Harmonix and it fixed the muddyness right up.

  • That is exactly what I did to mine, the standard Sovtek pre amp tube is not very good. It is amazing how much the tone changed with a simple tube change.

  • Just yesterday I was bored so I swapped an RCA El84 from my Hammond

L-100 and put it in the valve junior. It sounds amazing; almost plexi-ish in tone.

  • Wow, dude! Great playing. Great sound. Great video!

  • will it do metallica with a decent distortion pedal? just to practice.

  • Anything'll do metallica with a distortion pedal....

  • ???? what do you mean?

  • sounds great for the price.

  • Noyce! I got the combo amp for the past year and a half, I'd love to get the Head/Half Stack.

Is there less hum with the Head?

  • yes. its gone with the head

  • hey joe

  • what pickups you got in that strat?

  • look like either seymour duncan hotrails or dimarzio choppers.

    Or both?

    Could be wrong.

  • luv my epi head..for me the sweet spot's around 2 oclock then I boost that alittle with my fulltone OCD..had my other guitar buddies playing the guessing game when I sent 'em the clip.

  • could i use this as a band practice amp and run it through a distorion pedal if so would i have to use both cabnits or buy a diffrent cab.

  • sounds great, can you message me with the mods that you did?

  • Excellent amp and chops! Did your two mods eliminate the buzzy tone at higher gain levels?

  • is that a bluesbreaker combo under the head?

  • No, it's a 1x12 Marshall 18 watt clone. I've since changed that amp to a 2x12 that looks just like the 2x12 Bluesbreaker though.

  • you cant go wrong with the valve jr heads man

i plugged in a badly wired pickup and mine burned out so i need a new one

  • absolutely great sound and good idea putting it through you marshall/celestion speakers do you have a circuit diagram for your mod ?. I want one like yours for my studio

  • Which version of the head is this?

  • Very cool amp. I'm almost sold. Just not sure if I want the combo, or the head with the cab.

Thanks for posting. BTW, you are a very good player too.

  • Hey thanks for watching. I love the head / cab setup. I've never played the combo version of this amp, I imagine the smaller cabinet of the combo version will make it sound a little different. Either way, it's a great little kick-around amp!

  • Funny that you mentioned the greenbacks. My buddy just got a a Valve Junior Head and he is playing it through a dual greenback cabinet.

Holy $*!+ it sounds friggin' fantastic!

  • fuckin great player!

  • Are those Joe Bardon single coils installed on your guitar?

  • Nope - it's a SD JB Jr in the bridge, and Texas Specials in the neck and middle.

  • Wow. that was some awesome playing.

just wondering, which mods did you do to this amp? and were they complicated?

  • The mods are described below, and they are very simple - just a resistor and a cap. If you are thinking of doing them yourself, please read about working on tube amps and BE CAREFUL!

  • are u using any pedals at all? or are u just using the natural overdrive of the tube amp?

  • No pedals on this one... this is just the guitar into the amp.

  • how would one of these sound w/o mods but through a tube screamer?

  • The amp itself without mods sounds kinda dark and doesn't have as much gain. The mods I performed on it were dropping the resistor value on the input, as well as changing the input cap.

  • input capacitor? in which way did u change it?

Guess it would be possible to link the cap to a poti to have a gain poti? I'm not so much into electricity.

    Nice work!

  • What value is the cap? Thanks.

  • is this a good bedroom or live amp for someone who plays Van Halen and AC/DC and stuff like that?

  • GREAT bedroom amp. Live, it all depends on how loud your drummer is... :) I would guess it wouldn't have quite the volume you would want for VH-type tunes... but it definitely has the grind you would need.

  • Nice clip sounds great. Can you tell us specifically what mods you did to increase the gain on it? Made it sound huge.

  • The speaker in the cabinet probably helped him along there.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your demo....You sound and play fantastic...Most other Valve Jr. demo´s are Heavy or with a dark muddy tone...Thanks to you I will buy one for praticing in my office..Can you reccomend a speaker ?

    Cheers,

  • Your playing from 2:10 forward is fantastic. Very cool. I probably skipped back to watch it 8 times.

  • no its an SG.. ovusly its a strat

  • is that a strat

  • Yes - a bastardized 62 reissue with a JB Jr. in the bridge, and Texas Specials in the neck and middle positions.

  • is that a all tube amp?

  • Yes

  • hey what kind of pickups are those

  • It's a Seymour Duncan JB Jr. in the bridge, and Texas Specials in the neck and middle.

  • Sounds huge...I'm getting a Blackheart soon. Already play one of these as a combo at rock gigs and enjoy it a lot.

  • do they ship to mexico for free

  • Sweet tone bro.....

  • Wow, this mod interests me! Could you tell me what mod you exactly installed?

  • What guitar are you using

  • Looks like an American Standard with Duncan Hot Rails in it

  • nope, I sent him a message and he told me. it's a '62 reissue with a jb jr. in the bridge, and texas specials in the neck and middle.

  • if you would plug headphones into an amp, will the sound come out only through the headphones and not the amp speaker or will it come out through both?

  • headphones but u lose quality

  • Great sound

  • SOunds really good

  • this by far is the best I've heard this amp without OD pedals. could you help me out and tell me what you put in it to mod it and how much it cost? thanks!

  • What list of mods did you do? What speaker is in that cab? Is that a closed back?

We are tinkering with one of these heads every now and then.

  • nice setup. Howare you getting the recording to your pc?

  • I have a mic right in front of the cab, but this video is just the video camera mic.

  • Your camera must have a nice mic. I am getting beautiful sound from my head phones. Of course the marshall youre using as a cab and that gorgeous strat might have something to do with it too - what pickus do you have in there btw??

  • It looks like hotrails to me.

  • i think its hotrails
