Brings back fondest memories of listening to "Jazz with Michael", on WDAO radio in Dayton, Ohio. Heard this, and other songs by this group, on many a Sunday evening during that cold and very snowy Winter of '78, when we cozied up by the fireplace to savor the mellow '70s jazz sound. Lord, how I miss those golden days of old!
@Stratavarious777...i've been looking for a song for more than 25 years that i think Salsoul Orchestra might have done. i don't know the title, but it was a mid-tempo latin groove with harpsichord playing the chords and flute answering. every once in awhile the female vocals would come in and say something like "mis amigos" (?) any idea? Tony Brown used to play it on WDAS. A record dealer said it might have been a song for "promotional use only". Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Such an awesome classic MFSB tune.. so uplifting... yet romantic... & you were able to latin hustle with you mate. This is called music. just listen & you will hear so many instruements involved... the harmony takes flight & b4 u notice you are on cloud 9. Paradise is very nice. nothing like old school Peace & thanks for the classic tune drvinneboombotz!!!
This is my favourite cut from the LP. I'm surprised they didn't put this one out as an extended 12in remix. Use Ta Be My Guy was an okay song, but I think this one deserved a nice, further extended disco mix. The Sigma Sweethearts are their usual great selves singing the vocals on this track. I think they were replaced in the 80s on most philly tracks by the Jones Girls.
Wow, great to find a legend in the music industry posting on youtube! I have the vinyl versions of the Stratavarious project you recorded in Toronto (I think one of the 45s has a different mix of one cut that isn't on the LP). And I'm also a fan of your work at PIR. Was That All It Was is considered a classic by many disco fans. I think you breathed new life into the philly sound, without sacrificing the classic sound.
That's too bad to hear about what happened with Barbara Ingram. I haven't got my PIR CDs in front of me, so I'm not sure how far into the 80s the Sweethearts recorded together. They were the vocalists for many philly productions, either fronting the orchestras, or backing other artists. It's such a shame they never recorded an LP of their own. They had such a great vocal blend.
Who played on this cut? I'm guessing Keith Benson on drums? Those PIR LPs never seem to credit the musicians. :(
My bad. I was referring to To Be In Love. I was wondering who was drumming on this one. I thought Charles Collins had left PIR by this period, but it kind of sounds like him.
That's awesome you're reforming MFSB. Are you using some of the originals? I know so many of them have passed on like Norman Harris, Ronald Baker, and the two Chambers brothers. Will Earl Young be part of it? Or Michael Sugarbear Foreman? Or Jimmy Williams. Bobby Eli seems to be active.
phillydisco, First I must thank you for your very kind remarks. You might be interested to know that I was considering remastering the Stratavarious Album but got caught up inother projects - never got enough feedback from labels to invest.
As well, if you're at all interested, my latest release is now available on Itunes" Love In A Thunderstorm". This is very soft and seductive and the feed back on it has been great. If you get it I would love to know your impressions.
@Stratavarious777 ...just wanted to say I had all three "sweethearts" autograph my copy of DeeDee Sharp (Gamble) Happy' Bout The Whole Thing LP for me years ago...grew up on MFSB in the clubs in Philly and New York....that sound will always remain the Standard of Excellence for me...Love Is The Answer !!!!
It's from MFSB & Gamble Huff Orchestra "Mysteries of the World" Album in 1978. It reminds me of my days in High School. I'm glad you got to enjoy it. It's hard to find.

phiilydisco, When Joe and I wrote this we had no say-so in how it was released.
Thanks for your comments, and to further answer your query, Ms. Barbara Ingram became ill shortly after we did this. She is dearly missed.
The Jones Girls did not do that much with M.F.S.B.

Depending on what cut you're speaking about, Keith played drums on "Was That All It Was".
On a short break but thought I should reply.
Presently, I am reforming M.S.F.B. for live performances.
As well I am going to do a different tour to raise money for Homeless Veterans so keep your ears to the wall and you'll hear about it soon.
Just go to Myspace, become a friend and send me your email address so I can send you some advance copies of the new material I am recording.

This is the complete song straight from the original album. Perhaps you are referring to another version?

I love this song! What was the name of the album?

MFSB The Gamble-Huff Orchestra 1978. Not the 1980 'Mysteries or the World' Album, Although they were both released as a Double.
