i believe this is a dance that princes bopha performed in the enchanted forest movie in a short version. my ma told me it's called bogom sasarith dance which can be a group dance similiar to tep monorom where the devidas get together for prayer and worship to 3 gods, preah reach (vishnu), preah brohm (brahma) and preah keo (shiva)
wow...beautiful music. The Sralai at 6:20 is very entrancing. I guess that was the purpose when they started to pray. Very graceful how the male and female danseurs were in sync with each other. This is how harmony between earth and heaven is communicated through dance. Everyone with the same moves moving in harmony. Thanks for sharing.
KHMER AND LAO don't like viet, I'm sure. Vietnam is a bad neighbore, even Thailand is also not a good neihbor either. These 2 neighbors are keep stealing khmer and lao territories. After all present time Thailand were used to be Khmer empire and the whole South Vietnam were belong to Cambodia. Shame on these 2 bully neighbors.
What is "Barang Ku Satuka"? I know what Satuka is but this piece is not it, and not sure what "Barang" is, I have to see it written in Khmer.
I also had learned this Bourng Sourng dance a few years back but never had more than a few people to have this kind of group choreography. The movement is repetitive because you have to it 4 times in the 4 different directions. My teacher was a man and only one of a few men that's practicing Khmer classical dance.
Boroswa, I apologize, it is not your english. Your english is perfect just your interest and good knowledge of the khmer classical dances that makes me wonder because people of new generation especially the ones from America might not know or care that much about their great heritage and culture. Thanks.
oh I totally understand. I've always been interested in our culture ever since I was little. I remember growing up listening and watching all sorts of stuff and it grew a part of me till now. I admire our heritage and culture very much :)
Dear Boroswa, Robam Boung Soung is my favorite Khmer classical dance, the lyrics is so beautiful. It takes 16 dancers to perform it in synchronizing moves, hands and feet movements at the same time. I love the end because of the drum! By the way Are you from Long Beach, California or are you from Kumpuchia because the way you communicate with other uploaders, you seem to be someone from Cambodia. Thank you for sharing one of the greatest dance and culture on EARTH!
you're very welcome yoyoazngirl52. What makes you think I'm from Cambodia? I hope my english doesn't sound fobbish...lol. Actually I'm from Washington :)
Starting at 6:25, the sralay is played very beautifully, I never heard it sound so wonderful. But before, the music is too loud and the singing is distorted :(
haha I'm so sorry about the music being too loud. I didn't know I had my volume output set to a high number, but as for the distortion it originally sounded like that :(
Oh, I dont mean to blame you hehe. I'm just saying because I feel that there needs to be imporovement in sound for Khmer dance produced for DVDs. Even in the DVD for Reamker (I have it too), they blasted the sound too high and it totally ruined the music (for me anyway).
well technically i dn't noe y u guys call it robam pream when it is actually called robam yorkon when only neyrong r dancing but if it neang and neyrong dancing it is boung soung thats what my teacher said
I often times hear people call it Robam Pream (just the male character) but again I don't know much about the names of classical dance so you must be right :) Thank you for the clarification :)
