I watched this and the rematch today and you'll be stunned to know that this was better than anything on WWE Raw last night.

I bought the mag where Martel won the awa world title. I remember being so excited bcuz Martel was my man from the days of him teaming with Tony garea. But I always liked the idea of him as awa world champion. They shoulda put the belt back in him from hansen instead of bockwinkle.

Interestingly, this was just a week after Kerry Von Erich beat Ric Flair for the NWA title in Dallas. Also interesting to note that the all three major titles changed hands that year. Hogan defeated the Iron Sheik in January, Tsuruta beat Bockwinkel in February, Von Erich beat Flair in May and lost the NWA title back to Flair 16 days later and, of course, Martel defeated Tsuruta.

I had this on VHS too. I actually went to the AWA/NWA Rage In The Cage back in '86 at the NJ Meadowlands Arena. It was a loaded show.
