Apparently, in the end it was suppose to be all of Ryan's dream that he never woke up from his accident, and that was his dream that Marissa died, that whole 4th season was a dream. MB was suppose to come back on the last episode, but she wasn't available b/c of her breakdown. So....FWIW...Ryan and Marissa were suppose to end up together. They was what was originally planned for the two characters. I like to believe that he was still dreaming and that Marissa is indeed alive.
