That is funny because my wife has told me that when I get mine that I will most definitely be pulled over a few times by the police because they won't know what the hell the thing is. LOL!
No, insurance is not necessary to ride velomobiles in Canada nor in the States. I simply purchased an addition to my property insurance to cover accidents and theft on the road.
Wait a minute....Did I hear you say you have to have Insurance..?? Can you specify please..!?! Do you have to have insurance to ride a faired recumbent in america..???
Good deal. All of my interactions with police have been positive so far (including a few radar traps). Mine is more obviously bike-in-nature than a velo (more hardware showing underneath the fairing), which may be why I have less need to explain (also taller than Quest).
Good thing you didn't tell her it was a time machine to meet ignorent cops. Or she would have given you a huge ticket for traveling faster then light.
this must have been shot a while back -- you're referring to the ROAM sticker in your talk, mentioning we were still on the road, whereas the tour ended 4 months ago ...
Very Cool. The cop had a nice voice. Was she cute?....(-;
I've been pulled over in my Quest by 7 different police departments and paced by both the local State Police Commander and a County Sheriffs Department cruiser. Only once did a cop give me a hard time, actually making up laws to nail me on but there was nothing he could do about me being on the road.
I was also pulled over by two women one night with illegal lights in the grill of their vehicle. They wanted to take my picture
@MewFushisDad I live close to the local police station and see officers all the time, but this is the first time any of them have decided to investigate further (except for one that I passed on an empty road at 10pm, who rolled down his window and asked if I was pedaling). I think she turned onto the road right behind me, so she probably had to make a snap decision about whether to sound the siren or drive past so as not to block traffic.

@1ndefatigable For the most part the stops have been quite enjoyable brought about by curiosity. Enjoy your Quest. They are fantastic machines.
