I owned two 2600S's the first rusted to nothing but the second was a peach. I owned it for 5 years and nothing ever went wrong and it looked great in Zircon blue.
Anton Rodgers seams to have been stuck with SD1's and other Rovers in his acting carrier.. He drove a series 2 in "The Fourth Protocol" and in a Miss Maple he sped off in one only for it to crash into the gates and burst into flames!
And can anyone remeber"The Double Man" with Rodger Moore in 1970 with the P5?? Anton was in that too!!
Actually he drove the Range Rover in 'The Fourth Protocol' the Series 2 SD1 was driven by a colleague of the character played by Michael Caine. But you're right, he was one of the many TV/film personalities who chose the RIGHT car. In 'May to December' he drove the Mk1 800, a car that never got enough tv time in my opinion
Hmmm, Well either one of us is wrong lol he he. There were two estate cars made LOE99 in Gaydon Museum and the other one which exists in the Haynes museum in Somerset. The reference book i have in front of me says that LOE99p was used for a while by Michael Edwards (chairman) and the other which is at Haynes was used by Prince charles for a while. The book i am using is the ROVER SD1 complete story by Karen Pender. Either way a super car and its a shame i am selling my baby.
If you check on the DVLA Website it says that SHP549R was taxed from 1977 - 1987 and LOE was only taxed from 76-77, thus SHP will be the car used by the chairman, having been taxed for ten years. More reason for this belied is that SHP is registered as "3500 SD AUTO ESTATE" whereas LOE is registered as "ROVER OTHER 4 DOOR SALOON"
These cars are great!, i have one restored for which i am now selling... a Rover Vitesse in targa red. great car amazing power and lovely to drive. by the way LOE99P is alive and well. A rare one sat at Gaydon Museum as one of the two Rover SD1 estates made. (this opne driven around by the at the time chairman of BL) . A super car!
I LOVE these cars.. They were simply the BEST family car on the PLANET, When they went on sale in 1976 ... Very Rare P reg plate at 00:24 in this video
NOF391R NOF392R and LOE90P Sadly all have now gone to car Heavan, Some of the cars used in the BL advertising of the 1970,s and early 1980,s still exist, That I do know.
Video message: you can't pull birds unless you have a 3500. You can pull a pair of French policemen, however.

This film is so dated, like a time capsule!

Not only those films - the late Anton drove an SD1 in the sitcom "French Fields" (which like this was also filmed in France!)

Another great film from BL about the new SD1 and starring the affable Anton Rodgers.
Thanks for posting - I must see if the BL films are available on DVD
