  • You should of course watch the entire video before commenting - it's about an hour long and it's fascinating how they prove and disprove him. It's on the legacy of Freud and the fact that - though there may be holes in his theories or immaturity to the concepts, the foundation of what he brought to the psychoanalytical world, cannot be denied.

  • to provide love and nurturing that people really need.

  • ...provide longer term therapy. We all need love and nurturing to properly heal whatever a funded journal says. Take care if yourself and try to use your feelings to work out the truth from the spin. Best wishes

  • @mega

To help your understanding bear in mind that you need to experience psychotherapy to really know psychotherapy. And all psychotherapies can be boiled down into three main models psychoanalytical, behavioural and humanistic. They have many things in common cause they have borrowed deeply from each other over time. Once you know more you will see this more clearly. Money has been thrown into finding 'evidence' because politically the govt policy is to get people back to work and don't want

  • @mega

You sound like the sort of person who needs so called evidence to call rain wet. The existence of the Unconscious mind, defenses and transference (the main points made by Freud and psychoanalysts since) are proven everyday in ordinary peoples lives, clinics and therapy rooms. How come you dont know this? Are you a child? Beware fake idols of what is called evidence. The real world is the best evidence of all.

  • In my opinion Freud was a genius who recognised our true nature. cbt is for the uniformed simpletons and poor buggers who have been conditioned into thinking their thoughts matter or can be controlled. The nhs reeks of idiocy at the moment.

  • @leapsplashafrog

Most of Freud's theories had no evidence to support them - All the evidence could not be shown due to doctor-patient confidentiality.

Privacy or not, it means most of his theories were based on complete subjective opinions and intuition. No real evidence.

Schools everything teach that he was wrong - Although a big influence in psychology as a whole.

If you think they're idiots - Well, the Psychological world thinks the same of you.

  • Thumbs up if you love Dr Beck's accent !

  • Freud was the problem 4 which Rank was the (or at least a) cure, while Lacan managed the dubious feat of pawning off psychology-flavored poetry as profundity 2 an those predisposed to (literally) believe in nothing.. Not unlike Heidegger's philosophy-flavored poetry, with which he was unable to think up (or act out of) moral objections 2 humans being shoved into ovens, their flesh used 4 lamp shades, or Sartre's not getting it about Stalin, further ennobling "Continental philosophy." Wheee!!!

  • To really understand Freuds character and his motivations watch the video titled...

" Freud, Zionism and Sexual Revolution "

    You will be shocked !!!!!

  • @Achilles1389 You mean, to NOT Understand Freud watch the video you recommended. It is another David Duke creation purely designed to shed bad light on Jews as individuals and as collective group. Freud knew the importance of states of tension and the release of that tension (which he broadly termed "sex" as basic human urges. Just because he was courageous enough to expose the truth does not mean he advocated sexual liberalism and promiscuity - and to even think so is moronic.

  • @JerrySPsy The video quotes the very words used by Freud. Every single quote used in the video I posted above can be found on books quoting Freud in any state library. The video concentrates particularly on Freuds racist opinions against people who are not Jewish. The video also gives an opinion about the negative impact on society of Freuds teachings - is that an opinion that should not be heard ?

  • @Achilles1389 I didn't see single quote from Freud in the video that I watched. I have the whole library of Freud's works in my study and have read them all and I can categorically tell you that he was not a racist. And for Duke to state that "no single man has done more to destroy the family" or that Freud was the "father of the sexual revoulation" is beyond insane. If one sees a phenomenon in the course of their work & theorizes about it - how does that translate to their endorsement of it?!

  • That's analogous to someone doing a study on the high prevalence of pedophilia amongst Catholic priests & then u turn around & accuse the author of promoting pedophilia!? Freud saw that people struggled w/ anger, rage, sexual urges, insecurities, & other urges but that they defended themselves against all this w/ various defense mechanisms. He endeavored to strip away these defenses so he could see what people were defending against & help with those issues to help make their ego more intact..

  • im not buying this reppressing my unconcious mind. my unconscious mind is the most primitive and all it does is assess 3 things whenever i look at an object.

in a fraction of a second my subconcious askes can it eat me? can i eat it? can i fuck it?

if i was to supress this i might start eating woman, running in fear from inanimate objects and trying to mate with crocodiles

  • hahaha the guy with the bow tie is funny cuz frued said that bow ties were the unconscious realization of a castrated man

  • There are alternatives to Antipedressiva. See the description for the video:"Technique for overcoming depressions: The handwritten conversation in a face to face contact"

  • @Kesc777 Cognitive therapy is short term therapy so is Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy witch is another form of CT. WOW that is Late Breaking News. You must have 2 brain cells to argue with.

  • Most of Freud's theories were over comlicated and most of them he made up. Most of his work does not hold true today.

He could have collected Pennies instead.

  • @526723 hold on there have been a few fruedian theroies have been proven true or close to it by sciecne. denial and many of the defense mechanismhave held true

  • @526723 they were the simplest, and are now totally pervasive in all areas of society. dont be afraid 526

  • Yes, Aaron Beck is outstanding, but the others are suffering from Folie à deux (F24 - ICD-10).

    Friedrich Nietzsche pointed out:

"Wahnsinn bei Individuen ist selten, aber in Gruppen, Nationen und Epochen die Regel."

    ...

  • Arron Beck MD is outstanding in this film. the others are a Joke.

  • freud and psychoanalysis.

  • You haven't bridged the gap because they're no women sitting at the table and THAT is going to change!

  • Women have sat at that table before. Karen Horney, Anna Freud, etc. I'm very sensitive to gender issues, but these individuals are at this table for their academic perspectives, not their "male perspectives." Instilling a woman for that purpose would be wrong. Are there women academics that could have been here? Sure. That does surprises me why none were selected unless these gentlemen are the pillars of their respective areas.

  • @apotheosis00 Well said , the tragedy is , is that feminists have imprisoned women into understanding themselves and their intellectual ability solely within the parameters of gender( the very thing they accused men of doing) ... Im dismayed to see perfectly intelligent young women waste their talent by studying pseudo subjects like women studies and then coming out of college philosophically / scienfically and aesthetically illiterate and can only narcistically stare at their vulva ......

  • @pedagogyagent I could not of said that better myself.

  • Where's is The Great Masturbator?

  • Damn! That unconscious kills me every night!

  • As far as the comments regarding dreams go you must remember that apparently everyone dreams all the time but not all of these dreams are those that can be remembered in your awakened state. So you may or may not have had a "happy" dream, it just may be one you don't recall :)

  • the comments about these depressed dreams from depressed persons, rings absolutely true. I have always asked people "do you ever have happy dreams" .. I have never had one.

  • this has saved me lots pf reserch time!

  • aaron beck is great, his contributions and the ones from anothers cognitive authors like ellis show the value of this kind of interventions in order to change cognitions and irrational thinking

  • Beck has a very facile understanding of freud's ideas of the latent content of dreams. During dreams, the ego is still at work and imposes censorship on anxiety provoking thoughts and feelings, and hostile feelings (that evoke anxiety) in the dream undergo distortion that veil hostility (repressing the anxiety). Beck is just looking at manifest content of dreams. Beck is a simple man.

  • Forget thoughts, feelings and instincts are irrational and control thoughts and actions if left in the unconscious/preconscious mind. We have a compulsion to repeat traumas and narcissistic injury during developmental stages. As Freud states: We are not the masters of our own domain.

Who is to judge what is irrational thought but the person who has experienced complex and injurious blows to their psyche.

    Beck lives in a fantasy.

  • hahahaha!!!!just a cognitive could say that....

  • These early Freudian views are dated.ABeck began Freudian and he developed an evaluative approach challenging'core beliefs'thinking styles more than depth sometimes thats good enough. Now genetic-science model becomes overdetermined, much in the other less psychological direction?Freud subjectively was a giant, aware he also stood upon other shoulders(philosophers, scientists) who preceded him.We owe a respect to an elder, delver of meaning,a curious grandfather His legacy changed the world.

  • FREUD CONTINUED:

"He or she must be dark in any case, no more towheads. Let us banish all these will-o'-the-wisps!

I shall not present my compliments to Jung in Munich, as you know perfectly well....We are and remain Jews. The others will only exploit us and will never understand and appreciate us."(quoted in Yerushalmi

    1991, 45).

  • Freud (WHO IS JEWISH) suggested that Christian sexual morality was the cause of mental illness on a grand scale. He relentlessly undermined the concepts of sexual fidelity and the foundations of

    marriage. In 1915 he stated:

"Sexual morality — as society, in its extreme form, the American, defines it — seems to me very contemptible. I advocate an

    incomparably freer sexual life."

  • In Moses and Monotheism (1939) Freud repeatedly ATTACKS Christianity while promoting the spiritual supremacy of the Jewish people.

"The people, happy in their conviction of possessing the truth, overcome by the consciousness of being the chosen, came to valuehighly all intellectual and ethical achievements. The Christian religion did not keep to the lofty heights of spirituality

to which the Jewish religion had soared" — Sigmund Freud

  • this is excellent and a really good explaination of REBT or CBT thanks alot 4 posting!!

  • Kandel and Beck are both pioneers in their respective fields! Good interview!

  • In Moses and Monotheism(1939)New York:Vintage: Freud repeatedly attacks Christianity while promoting the spiritual supremacy of the Jewish people. Quote: "The people happy in their conviction of possessing the truth overcome by the conciousness of being the chosen, came to value highly all intellectual and ethical acheivements. The Christian religion did not keep to the lofty heights of spirituality to which the jewish religion had soared"

  • Psychoanalysis is the best religion and Freud is a God. soccer is also a religion in which Maradona, Pele or Zidane are Gods, to some. Psychoana is the most intruiging phenomenon to the curious mind, nothing deepens the human spirit more than knowledge of the priciples of psychoanalysis. ung also deserves respect, although he is not as authentic as Sigmu.

  • Freud´s theories are the base of all therapies, even the ones most comportamental, also based on Skinner and Pavlov finds in the begning of 20th century. If Freud showed we respond to some drives that are not conscious, if he showed we are less concious of our acts than we think, he also showed that ego/I (and ego ideal) tries a lot to control the unconscious drives and he showed how this control happens. So nowadays ego therapies also have some freudian paternity.

  • These people haven`t got the faintest idea of what they are talking about...

  • So you do, then?

  • This people know nothing really about psychanalysis. It's a shame for you guys not getting to know what is really about freud's theory.

  • perhaps you KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE (PRONOUNCED 'THEE') ENGLISH LANGUAGE, you triple faggot french fat.

  • Boy, you'd think that people viewing videos on Psychology would be, perhaps, a little more enlightened - or at least tolerant.

You need to take a timeout buddy.

  • i agree Freud sounds like fraud.the fraud of living.the fraud of CBT.

  • ummm...

Freud doesn't have anything to do with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I fail to see the relevance of this post.

  • the knowledge of mental processes are mature enough already??

    no way ,so...

  • beck is one of the greatest in cbt theory

  • and you think thats a big deal, right?

  • Freud wasn't a "Fraud", that's a little ignorant to say. Let's remember that Freud was the founder of psychology as we know it today, therefore he had no evidence to suggest he may be wrong. He wasn't trying to con anyone, and without him, we may have never begun studying these things... it's not bad to have ideas about the world.

  • The poleshift happens about every 3600 years when Planet Nibiru comes to Earths solar system. Ask yourself what would cause this poleshift in logic. It would have to be some thing that comes close to Earth. I got video footage and pictures!

  • Freud kinda sounds like Fraud.

  • beck is so cute

  • The Fall and further Fall of (a Fraud) sorry Freud - Magic Aaron - Go Aaron Go Aaron

  • Freud brought us many insights in the human mind. unfortunatly his ideas are now used against us to control us.... Hitler was one of the first to use his ideas on a mass scale. Also commercials are based on these insights. A great man he was, but i wish he hadn't discovered it :(

  • You appear to be misinformed. Hitler wasn't guided by Freud, in fact he hated psychoanalysis. Commercials aren't based on Freudian analysis, they're based on the profit motive. And he didn't discover anything, he made it all up, posited a model of the human mind which has been shown by subsequent research to be completely wrong.Read for example, Eysenck, Ellerton, Masson - the list is endless. Listen to Beck, there's a man who knows what he's talking about.

  • Well, ofcourse not all of his idea's are totally correct. Give him a break and place him in a time frame. He discovered we are controlable on a big scale. Commercials tell us we look more beautiful with certain make-up every day. Ppl believe this. Look at yourself 5 years ago. Don't you think that trouser looks awfull? While at the time you bought it it would suite your taste perfectly.

The american "war on terror" made some ppl think all moslims are evil. Again an example of fraud's theory.

  • This is nothing to do with Freud. If anything, he put forward the idea that we're controlled by unconscious forces, which goes against the notion of advertising agencies controlling us. What you're talking about is psychology in general. Freud was all about the unconscious, the Oedipus comlex, dream interpretation, word slips.

  • If you like it or not, we are controlable. And that is one of the things Fraud noticed. He who thinks he is free, makes the best slave.

  • This people are very great scientists, especially Aaron Beck. Thank you very much for shearing.

  • if you search for "charlie rose" and "freud" on google video you'll find the full 50 minute program. well worth watching.

  • Very interesting interview. Iwill give 7 stars

  • Sorry Aaron. You didn't go deep enough otherwise you would have found why they had these negative thoughts to begin with. Oedipal Desires!!

  • There's no such thing as the Oedipal complex. Haven't you heard? It was all a product of Freud's imagination. If you believe in it, then where's the evidence?

  • cognitive therapy.... Freud shake off in your crypt. :S.

    thanks for the video

  • Many thanks

  • wow, i'd like to know the cumulative IQ score of all the people in that room haha

  • thank you for sharing the video.

  • Come on how does the information help us ? Ok the girl got better well guess what any fairly attractive girl can get a guy. You don't need a degree to coach someone on the right path. Any idiot can tell her, she was too clingly, think about a time when you were happy ya da ya da ya da.

  • Interesting conversation but it is not about Freud. Aaron Beck steals the show and distorts what psychoanalysis is about. It is curious that they did not have a psychoanalyst on the show. psychotruth above is right. On the 150th Anniversary of Freud's birth, it is an intro to CBT. Ho hum. freelyhovering

  • Not an English major I suppose?

  • Very interesting conversation.

  • This is great introduction to cognitive behavior therapy.
