Thats not compressor surge..... surge is when ur over boosting and the turbo is spooling at a faster rpm than the motor should be allowing it. Motors detonate with this problem..... urs is just bad on the turbo if at all

Surge damages no matter when it occurs Exhaust force pushes on the turbine while the compressor wheel can't move while the throttle plate is closed. It twists the shaft and damages the bearing. im runnin the same rs bov, on my 03 evo 8, i get a little bit of surge, however its not surge your hearing, what this is bov flutter...most people get those mixed up...i get flutter a low boost under 10psi, but anythin over 10 psi i get a new pshhhhh haha
i dont know how bad compressor surge really is for a turbocharger. an r5 at standard boost pressure is supposed to get 75k out of one, but u have to warm up for 5 mins before driving off dont boost too high untill at running temp and tick over 2 - 3 mins before switching off (garret manual advice). ive done this with all three of my 5s (12 yrs total ownership) and only needed a new turbo once and that was soon after i bought one. also comp surge with high flow filter sounds great!

@mtktm No, this is the sound of the bov not opening because the diaphram was ripped causing the vaccum not to open it, and just pushing the boost back into the turbo.
Sounds kinda cool but not good for your car. I also have a Greddy rs bov on my 96 talon tsi and it surges on my 16g turbo. I should have never bought it and kept my ssqv instead
My HKS SSQV sounds like that on my supra if I'm going balls out, otherwise it just chirps like normal. On my T5 it just screeches, doesn't even chirp. If you LIKE compressor surge then you must like buying new turbos or at least getting them repaired.
So many youtube experts don't actually know what compressor surge is, ffs go and read a book instead of trawling on forums or whatever
