hardest part of a conversion is covering the costs of the batteries, controller, and motor. There's a diy electric car forum that is a valuable source of information.
This video is my content. I'm flattered that you are reposting it. But I am in the business of converting cars and would prefer to field any questions that people have myself. Can you please remove this.
I often wonder why alot of these electric cars don't have a solar panel on them somewhere to charge them while they are in a parking lot or something, that could significantly increase the range and decrease the time needed to wait before you can make trips, have a medium size solar panel with a trickle charge system and that would be awesome.
@NTGam1ng Sorry to disappoint you but solar panels wouldn't do shit, solar panels are only about 16% efficient at the most. To charge one 12v battery in 8 hours of pure sun you would need about 5 - 100w solar panels. I to was mislead about solar til i researched them and bought some to play with. Solar panels are shit unfortunately.
I would like to have an electric car but you have to make it look rediculous like everyone else. Who wants to look like a tool driving a piece of junk.
What are you talking about? You can get whatever car body you want for a conversion. In fact, it will likely end up cheaper, as you can get written off luxury cars with failed engine/drivetrain for a fraction of the price these cars go at while operational.
Look at the channel of CroDriver for example. That's a fast fuckin car that he actually drives daily in all weather conditions.
EV is the future. Fuck oil and all the bullshit that's going on over it!
I'd love an electric car... but the range/battery life makes it unworkable... I'd need a 120 mile range on a charge to commute, and 250 mile range to completely replace my gas vehicles.
electric cars are great but it will never happen. We've had electric cars for over 100 years. Nothing new. If only one of the big car makers converted to electric they wouldn't lose any money except the kickback they get from oli companies and government. hate to say it but why the hold up. We have the technology and the means... it will never happen.
@kn8d okay i get what your saying i saw the movie "who killed the electric car"....but electricity is more practical then gas if it wasen't how come my cell phone isn't gas powered or my tv. or my laptop or trains their powered by electricity. We use electricity in almost everything....gasoline just my pollutive car. What is keeping electric cars down is gosoline and oil companies and people like you who are so close minded and stuck in the past.
different batts have different # of recharges. Lithium ions have something like 1200 charges before seriously decreasing the capacity of them. This works out to about 2 or 3 years.
@daswada9 Thanks for the update. I havent been following up with the latest in lithium ions. But on reading this I found that the lifepo4 has about 2 to 2.5 times the life of the standard lithium ion. If they can make them cheap enough this would be worth putting in the electric cars.
@000eMan000 it all depeands they could last anywhere from 2 to 10 years, theres lithium batteries used in laptops, cordless drills and such, aswell as lead batteries we use in our cars today and other ones to, theirs dc voltage and ac voltage styles i would do some research.
$50 is the least of your worries. Great idea, but if you can't afford $50 for instructions or consultations, then the expense and complication of electrifying your car are probably beyond you. Good luck, spend $50 and go for it!

@NTGam1ng The weight of the solar panel would probably decrease your range more than the tiny amount of power it generates would help you.

GM/Vauxhall are going to sell the first all electric car in 2011, it will only have a 40mile range so can't see it being popular.
It is being built in the UK now.
