This is based on the Chinese novel 倚天屠龙记(Heaven sword & Dragon Sabre). Search wikipedia and it will tell you the ending. This movie condenses the story quite drastically. Alternatively if you want to watch 40 episodes or so, find Chinese television series of the same name which adapt the novel (available on youtube both the 2003 and 2008 adaptations). I recommend the 2008 adaptation myself.

You can search wikipedia for the title to find the ending of the story. Note this movie drastically condenses the story. Alternatively you can find Chinese television series (if you can bear to watch 40 episodes) adapted from the novel. The latest one was made in 2008, and 2 years ago was available on youtube. Search Heaven Sword & Dragon Sabre 2008.

@codfreaklmfaolol In the novel the 1st promise is for him to show her the Dragon Sabre. The 2nd promise in the movie is not 2 use various martial arts stances. In the novel it was for him not to marry the woman who ran him through with the sword. The 3rd promise is "paint her eyebrows" for the rest of her life. Its a euphemism for doing her make up because she no longer has servants 2 do it for her after the "evil" Ming sect overthrew the Mongol led Yuan dynasty, leading to the Ming dynasty.

you can kind of understand why all the chinese emperors wanted to either control or destroy the Gung Fu clans. of course they couldn't do 10% of what they show on films like this but the very idea of such large numbers of skilled fighters in what amounted to private armies would have been enough to give any ruler nightmares.
