  • Daly looked a little more joyful than usual throughout this clip, particularly at 5:23. Springtime must have been funner in the 50s than it is now, lol.

  • She has a rather piercing wide-eyed stare combined with that wide open mouthy smile. I find it quite scary, sort of like how a psychotic killer might look at you before dicing you into tiny pieces for her dinner and a nice bottle of Chianti.

  • One of the best trained poodles I've seen on TV. Animal on live TV usually gave the directors heart attacks.

  • lovely dog!

  • Great eye expressions on Barbara Ann Scott.

  • @ziggycat999 I thought of the Cheshire Cat...

  • I STILL think the puppy is ADORABLE.

  • that dog is now long dead

  • And that cute yawn at 4:20...

  • I love the way Pierre looks up at her as she's introducing him.

  • My hat goes off to the only lady to ever be the reigning Canadian, North American, European, World and Olympic Champion. This is truly a feat that will never be matched.

  • I love when Dorothy pets the poodle...Dorothy is so sweet.

  • @UDIETHATWAY LOL that sounded dirty :o)

  • She's adorable! And so is Pierre!

  • Barbara Scott took the gold in the 1948 winter olympics

  • I wonder if there were other Mystery Guests from Canada before her.

She was the FIRST Canadian to win gold in skating.

  • On one episode of WML, the host of the Canadian WML is the guest - Louis Morriset.

  • And according to Wikipedia, one of the other panelists was on the show too, and then she sat on the American panel for the next round...

And then Charlotte Whitton, Mayor of Ottawa.

  • I don't know about mystery guests.

But around the same time (I think it was around the mid fifties,) they had a regular contestant on the show whose line was a pannelist on the Canadian version (A chaque un son metier.)

  • Chacun son metier... And yes, one of the Canadian panelists was a mystery guest once. I haven't been able to find that on YouTube.

  • @SueBeaWho That is a very mean-spirited remark.

  • wow..you must be really beautiful if you think Barbara was homely...I think she looked pretty damn good.

  • Agree with you--the girl is not homely! Great comment you made. i was thinking of saying the same thing!

  • she may not look like rita hayworth, but she is far from homely.

  • No, she isn't homely. But she sure has a weird look on her face, like a little girl blowing out the candles on her birthday cake.

  • what a cute puppy!

  • Ba-Ba-Ba-Bar-Barbara Ann

  • she had a wonderful double salchow olympic champ 1948

  • And just how would they have predicted that?

  • She's a figure skater. If you'd be involved any way in the skating world, you'll certainly hear of her.

  • Barbara ann scott was beautiful.

  • just recently saw this aired.....she's so cute!!!

  • Sorry I accidentally clicked the "spam" button next to lgoldman's comment about Barbara Ann Scott. I meant to click "reply", and say that Barbara, as I found out and I'm sure many of you have, is from Canada, and won gold at the 1948 Winter Games, before turning pro and going on those Ice Capades-like tours.

  • Barbara Ann Scott was the Olympic figure skating champion of 1948. She also won the world championship too, I believe.

  • I prefer the original way.

  • I agree, algabal, but I think maybe they thought it was too easy to guess the celebrities that way, especially if one of the panelists recognized the voice immediately.

  • It was primarily because of Bennett Cerf; backstage, Bennett would study his list of every celebrity known to be in New York that weekend, culled from the local newspapers. Gil Fates (the director) wrote that this method of questioning was adopted with Bennett ALWAYS getting the first turn. That way, there was some assurance that the mystery guest would make at least one round through the panel, as Bennett wouldn't dare try to guess on his first question!

  • Me too. more fun that way.

  • This is the first time that the panelists asked only one question at a time in the WML mystery round .

  • This is a first for me--a mystery guest I've literally never heard of! Guess I'm not up on my 1950's ice skaters.

  • Gil Fates wrote that Fred Allen never identified contestants -- not true: he knew this person. That puts him one up on me. A dog with red toe nails yet.

  • Certainly an historical episode, and a fun one too!
