  • this is my grandfather! we came across this video tonight, so proud to have 46,000 something views <3 this man is truly a genius

  • @HallSarah21

That's great! I first met Jim about 18 years ago at George Humphrey's.

He is truly a very kind and very talented man.

  • America really knew how to make trucks back then. And they looked so cool! Today, we're lumbered with these bloody awful "euro" looking trucks. No looks, no chrome.

  • Is the right stick like a low and high for each speed?

  • @cobra3289 That's pretty much the idea, except with a Mack 9 speed duplex. I believe you don't use the the low position on the auxiliary in combination with 5th in the main box.

Mack also had the duplex called a 10 speed in which you could split 5th gear in the main box. I think I'm right on this. The only Mack duplex I ever drove was a 10 speed.

  • The pedal on the left is just for starting on hills by the way.:)

  • Nice video. And no annoying music. Thanks. Love the old B models. I know you were not driving in Yarmouth Ma on Cape Cod. I for sure would have seen this truck. Maybe you could mount a seat with a seat belt in the back of your pickup for outside shots.

  • @capesquirt Thanks for the kind words.

I'm actually thinking of modifying a Dodge Caravan with sort of a pickup body.

If the cops see me riding in the back of a minivan with no roof, so what.

  • american gold.my dad grew up in one of these and me a f-700.mack mack attack

  • That is one sweet rig!!!!!!! Thanks for posting the video.

  • Yea, those were indeed the days!

  • That old girl is absolutely mint. I drove one of these in my early trucknig days in the 70's, with a 220 Cummins and a Mack 5X3 transmission, it had a tag axle and on occasions it was pulling 40+ tons of steel. I've seen those old naturally aspirated engines make the exhaust pipes glow cherry red!

  • back when trucks were trucks and not recycled beer cans

  • @JohnDeere30201 I drove a B model Mack back then. Well in the 1960's when there were still a good number of B model Macks still on the road. I was a kid in the 50's. Well after 8 months in a 2007 International PayStar 5000, I'm back in a Mack now. It's a 1998 RD with a one stick Mack tranny. The company I was working for laid me off in May and I got a new job driving another straight truck and I'm BACK in a MACK. I've been in two Ford L9000s, A couple of Petes, a KW and lots of Macks.B,DM,RD,CV.

  • "A one-stack Mack with a window in the back."

    Goof-hauf trailer.

  • Wow, I love these old trucks. Makes me think of Dad and tear up a bit. He's an old trucker from the 50's and 60's.

  • Thanks, I really enjoyed your video. Great job.

  • were you driving on the north road in yarmouth?

  • @trucknut324 I'm not sure exactly where we were. I'm from Massachusetts, so I relied on Jim to chart our course.

I go where they take me and I just shoot the video.

  • @longroadpro oh alright, well im quite sure it is, I drive that road often

  • @trucknut324 nope look at 3:16 not in yarmouth yet

  • Check out 2:38, the wheel RPM's match the frame rate and the spokes appear to be still or slowly turning, but you can see the valve stem going round and round. I just purchased a B61, one day ill have a 2 stick shifting video on here.

  • @lordtaw It was bright sunny day when I was shooting this truck, so the camera was set on a faster shutter speed. Sometimes it looks like the wheels are even turning backwards. Which splitter combination are you going to have?

  • @longroadpro Its a Mack 9 speed duplex. Split 1st through 4th and shift the main from 4th to 5th while still leaving the compound in Hi.

  • Thanks for putting this video together. My Grandpop would of loved it. He loved the trucking profession. These trucks were hard on drivers and I don't think I ever heard him

complain and he had a bad Knee from WW2 and only 30% vision in one eye. My Grandpop was one tough cookie. And a real gentleman.

  • Beautiful video and a awesome old Mack. This truck reminds me of my Grandpop, a truck driving veteran of 33 years. These old Macks were a big part of his life. He died in 1982. Gene Traub Sr, an American truck driving hero in my eyes.

  • ..well I'm glad you DIDN'T add any music to this video, it was nice to hear that 'ol Mack purr, did you ever get pulled over by any curious DOT/HP while you shot this video..

  • @ANICON2006 Funny you should ask that. I shoot most of the outside footage from the back of my pickup with the camera mounted near the tailgate. We actually did get pulled over that day . The officer told me it was illegal for me to ride in the back of the pickup.

  • That looks like Yarmouth and North Yarmouth!!

  • This is a great video. In 1970 I was an apprentice and we had three B61's to look after, - they were Snora, Flora and Dora, all owned and operated by E.D.Smith Jam company in Winona Ontario. One day I brought Snora back from Toronto and smoke was coming out of the dash so I wouldn't release the truck to the driver. He said shucks, she always does that!

  • great videos! they cant be beat

  • @rob4713 Thanks buddy!

  • The only thing that could make this any better would be to hear the song Phantom 309 in the background. Excellent job.

  • I can remember when these trucks were still on the road!!! Great looking truck!!

  • Old school trucking at its best. Thanks for the video!

  • Good morning, I soon discoverer that you had a whole play list of great vidios to enjoy. I have looked at them all and enjoyed them a lot. The style that you use is the best I've seen. Going from inside the vehicle to the outside, showing the driver shifting and then driving down the road, is done so well that you would think that is is a professionaly done movie. Thank you for all the great vidios and I look foward to more.

  • @fredandkit1

I'm very glad to hear you enjoy my videos.

It started about 16 years ago shooting footage of some of my friends in the American Truck Historical Society.

I happen to have a small excavation business. Despite that, I still love old trucks!

  • Great looking truck! Great resto job! I really like the way you go from the inside shifting to on the road and back. Looks professional.

  • @fredandkit1

This isn't my truck. It belongs to my friend Jim in Maine.

I've done a few documentaries on old trucks though.

  • sweet truck i own a 1959 b model with a duplex

  • Wow Cool!!

  • Very nice video: brings back memories. First two trucks I drove were B Models, one with a Duplex and the other a Triplex. You make it look easy, as it was after learning to always "up-shift first." Two stick experience earned a stint in a '68 K-100 with a 380 Cummins and Spicer a 4x4. 90+ mph at 2150. Thanks for sharing.

  • Do you remember what year this truck was?

  • @forgetdogs

I believe it was a 1956, but I could be wrong. I looked back at the original footage I shot and Jim doesn't mention the year of the truck.

  • Sure love the few from behind that long hood! Great video

  • beautiful truck

  • This gentleman really knows what he's doing. Can anyone tell me what the lever on the right side of the steering column is? Jake brake- or maybe turn signal ? I drove a couple of trucks in the past that had the signal on the right.

  • @fordtruxdad

That's the trolley control for the trailer brakes. If you need to operate the trailer brakes independently of the tractor brakes you use that control.

  • @longroadpro 10-4 Appreciate that!

  • Super nice model B Mack. Video was very professional too. Two thumbs up!

  • Cool man cool.

  • I just got an old 35 foot stainless fruehauf and it's beautiful! I don't see any leaks after all these years.

Built to last. A man's dream.

  • @MovingUpp

Whoever supplied Fruehauf with their steel was probably the best in the business.

  • Thanks for beautiful MACK video - It's nice to see that "old iron" never die ;-)

  • Very well done.......My grandfather used to drive one just like it......Thanks for posting !

  • This was a joy to watch!!!!! Thanks!

  • longroadpro you do great video work

  • Very nice video! I really enjoy watching the old ones rolling down the road! :-D

  • Very nice Mack in stunning condition

  • hey longroadpro, does this mack have a thermodynr or it has a maxidyne?

  • @MegaZsolti That would have been the Thermodyne days.

  • Supertruckers note: he is using the clutch.

  • @teamwounder He's not taking any chances on breaking anything, and I don't blame him.

  • North Road go slow heading into Yarmouth, they are a pain!

  • MI ESCUELA... PROFESOR MI PADRE,

  • My pa drove truck for 35 years he said he drove one of these in colorada for many years he's 78 years old now .

  • That ole boy knows how to drive a Mack! Great B-61, great video. Thanks

  • o....m....g....

  • This guy is a pro with these videos.Very informative and professional. Not your average You Tube video. I have a couple of his DVDs.Good stuff for the old truck nut!

  • that thing is sweet

  • I used to see 1 or 2 of theses at the "Truck Show" in Macungie, PA. Your video is another reason why I miss the Mack B61s!

  • Now that's a trucking video!
