I think they r really was a masters in that art. Maybe this caused by the fact that they never had a real fight training. No one dares to challenge them for years because of the master title. For instance even a world class athlete would worsen without a constant training.

There are way better representation of chinese martial arts. These people obviously don't due enough sparring, therefore under pressure there techniques don't work. Plus a lot of Tai chi teaches to guard with both hands you don't see any of that here. White crane also doesn't even have a guard either. Makes you wonder how legit these kung fu masters are. Though there swinging punches seem to be okay. Their feints are too rigid for a internal martial artist.

Just a thought.

I think this is better than some of you are giving it credit for. It is bare knuckle after all, and just because the punches are not all straight and come from unorthodox angles doesn't mean they lacked effectiveness. The guy that lost landed some pretty good arm shots that had to hurt but Wu was much faster and more elusive and in the end that is why he won, but his nose was bloodied in the first round he was on the defensive for the early fight.

I believe this was a landmark battle in Hong Kong where the best of hard art was pit against soft art. No kicking was allowed. No other soft art exponents at that time stepped forward to claim they were better than Wu Kung Yi.

Tai Chi Sifu Wu Kung Yi was 54 then whereas his White Crane opponent was 31. It is rare to find top exponents of such established martial arts willing to fight in the open. I think practitioners cannot begin to phantom the ability of the individuals. BTW kicking was not allowed..
