  • normally he doesn't use this many effects if any at all HE IS SIMPLY demonstrating the fractal unit!! come on!!

  • Guys...that man that looks like he's just waking up (probably he is) would kick your distinguished asses just by playing a simple pentatonic scale way down-way up...Frank Zappa was right...It's not hydrogen the building block of Universe is just STUPIDITY!!! Shut Up'n'play yer guitar IDIOTS!

  • Come on guys, this isn't supposed to be absolute perfection! hes trying out a new piece of gear for cryin out loud. Don't just judge someone like zappa with one video of him playing around with a new toy.

  • he;s awful,lol

  • Listen to none of these whiny wimps Dweezil!!! You got the world's biggest shoes to fill and you do it amazingly well. It is real easy to get jealous of a dude like you. I mean your position is yours and yours alone. Your father influenced me very intensely and I love to hear you play. I like the differences. There can never be another Frank Zappa, but anybody with a glimmer of consciousness can see your challenge and I personally respect and admire your for rising to it. So, Zappa, play ZAPPA !

  • Don't think Frank would be proud of that :(

  • @100slackerman1 then your an idiot

  • @damienrouse yep we're entitled to our own comments and opinions - in this case you;re the sad muppet which is probably 100x worse than a common idiot like me :)D wahahahah

  • Comment removed

  • @damienrouse BTW - your playing probably sound like a duck or a dweezil or maybe like a can of bumble bees ..get me?! ,,,wahahahaha

  • none of the above ...sorry :( ..no sense of timing and feel ...just cloned licks..

    sounds amateur really

  • fuckin legend

  • great guitar player but 1:40 sounded like a flock of geese

  • I have an Axe FX.... AND I typically like Dweezil. This entire video was just AWFUL!! No clue what he was chasing on this day.

  • Dear Mr. Zappa: I had the great fortune to see you (twice) in Columbus, Ohio. The second visit you were utilizing the Fractal Rig. Although you were equally brilliant on both tours, I preferred your tone on the "Fractal tour." I purchased an Ultra after your performance. You are indeed correct sir - This is no toy. Perhaps the ignorant chapped Torturer would be better off in Toys 'r Us.

  • Maybe its just Acid Trip

  • Hey Dweezil, you're a great player - Ive heard other stuff... but frankly this sound is awful. It soulds like crap and is crap. No one in their right mind with your ability would bee seen dead with a sound like that. It cannot be guitar players you are trying to address with this. I dunno - maybe you're trying to emulate a HD500 - you did not make it... the HD50 was better. Now save your money for version II.. it MIGHT get better.

  • @tonymckenziecom,

Only because he WANTS IT to sound that bad - LOL!

Seriously, do you know ANYTHING about his Dad's (Frank Zappa's) approach to electric-guitar? FZ wanted his electric-guitar to be AS OFFENSIVE AS POSSIBLE! Furthermore, Dweezil's full-time job now is (and for the last several years has been) to tour a band which faithfully re-creates his Dad's/FZ's music (as best they can!)

Believe me, if Dweezil wanted to dial in EVH, Nuno, or Warren DeMartini, he could...NO PROBLEM!

  • @billmeedog maybe... but when I used to listen to the mothers all those years ago there was actually some awesome guitar in there... it sure was not like this... and 'shut up and play yer guitar' sounded much better too. But there again.... his dad played a tube amp? maybe thats the difference. But I just thought the sounds were not too cool on this one... Never listened to dweezil actually much so maybe its a bad day for him :-) but like you said... maybe he wants to sound this way...

  • lol just listened to an soldano slo clip before this, this sounds like a cheap digital piece of turd.

  • @chavTorturer,

Only because he WANTS IT to sound that bad - LOL!

  • I dumped my Line 6 HD500 for this and it was no mistake. This is the best for now.

  • I'll posting this on a about five or six Atomic related youtube sites, just so you know:

I'm going to be selling my brand new Atomic Head and Atomic Cab on ebay within the next week if anyone is interested. I made custom covers for 'em too.

  • Inspiring sounds = Inspired playing

  • Vai, Tabor and Petrucci all have endorsment deals with amp companies. They are under contract to publicly represent them. Saying they used a modeler of any kind would violate that contract. Yet they all have one of these in their rack. And they all paid for it to be there. I never mentioned Tabor or Loomis. Ty does use it only for effects. But last I checked he was in bed with Egnator so....There is some validity to what you say but I've talked to most of them at NAMM and it was interesting.

  • @dswguitars I checked a recent interview of TY while he may use the Egnator due to the contract live. On his recent record he mentioned recording everything direct through the Axe Fx Ultra.

  • @immortalsoloist Thanks. That proves my point. Like I said my conversations were pretty interesting about what these guys were doing.

  • @dswguitars Anytime you are absolutely right. Fractal Audio Axe Fx Ultra All the way man. Purchasing mine very soon. In fact was going to order it today but it's out of stock. Anyhow won't regret a moment once I get it :)

  • 1:38 sounds like a flock of geese. Guess you can do anything with the Axe Fx.

  • do the atomic reactors work as a power amp??

  • @jeffdisario Yup. The Atomic Mono Block is the most useful power amp you can get the reactors and wedges indeed work like that too if you want them to.

  • Comment removed

  • @mrpollack The fact that you sold it so soon may be part of the problem. It took me a good few months to get tones I was really satisfied with, and tuning the unit to my sound system. Now I can dial in a great sound in 5 minutes, but when I first got it I though it sounded pretty lame too.

  • @Ice7String Maybe you are right about it..Now I regret it a little bit...I think I will buy another one, but this time with Atomic wedges and give it a socond chance :-)

  • whats the first effect un the video? lasts about 30 seconds?

  • I'm a big fan of Frank but about Dweezil...mmm...well, lets put it this way he might be a nice guy in person but honestly if it wasn't because of his dad, he would be flipping burgers somewhere now.

  • @theleftymonster I have to disagree. With regards to guitar playing - not the composing side of it - I'd say dweezil s his fathers equal.

  • @theleftymonster no dude hes actually a very unique player

  • @theleftymonster Well I'm sure he would have established some sort of music career without the Zappa name but yeah of course. Your statement is true for many musicians who we would never have heard of if not for Frank.

  • Just like his Father, there is no beginning to this guys talent!

  • @coltsuperocean10 I'm hoping for dyslexia here. Are you to suggest Frank Zappa was lacking talent?

  • @FunDiMaio You wish for what you want sunshine!

  • @coltsuperocean10 I wish for people who know what they are talking about. I wish for people who know what they are talking about... Damn. Maybe next time.

  • @FunDiMaio There is no beginning to your talent!

  • @coltsuperocean10 I would say you have no way of knowing that, but this hasn't stopped you before. I might add that the scenery sucks down at this level.

  • Go to the Fractal Audio website and take a look at the ever growing list of artists. Fractal doesn't pay these people to use the product! They seek Fractal out. Yes they get deals, but they are not paid endorsees. These are serious players. Neal Schon? Yeah, "Bedroom Tweaker". That's a term I'd use to describe him. When your guitar tone is on more hit recordings than Neal has, we'll listen to what you have to say. Until then keep milking those cows farmer funkyjones.

  • @dswguitars Lol! I gotta hand it to ya...that last part IS funny. But come on...when the POD came out almost everyone who was anyone got one. How many of the great players still use them live? Really, name one.

  • @dswguitars Well... Steve Howe, Trent Reznor Etc. etc. However we're not talking about Line 6. No line 6 gear I've ever owned holds up to the Axe FX. I ditched my line 6 gear because the company doesn't stand behind it's products or support its customers. I've owned 3 pieces of L6 gear, none of which worked together and they wanted me to buy more gear that would only partially fix the problems. You need to actuall play the AXE FX not just watch your friend. This aint no toy.

  • @dswguitars comparing line 6 to fractal audio is like comparing a chainsaw to a creamcake...

  • I'll take your Farm. I love the comments from people who haven't actually played with this piece of gear. Your Right. Hendrix didn't have this device. Imagine if he did! I'll bet Beck uses one before the years out and Clapton and Page won't be far behind. Crap? Look at the list of real players using this. Zappa, Vai, Petrucci, Belew and many others. I'd love to hear you tell these highly respected tone purests that their new piece of gear is Crap. Are these bedroom tweakers? I think not.

  • @dswguitars You're right, they're not bedroom players but after they get bored with this thing and sell it on ebay, some bedroom player WILL own it.

  • @dswguitars Don't get me wrong, I think the Axe-FX is great, I do. But rattling off Vai, Petrucci, Jeff Loomis, Ty Tabor, etc. is a little disingenuous, IMO. Those guys use them for effects, not the amp modeling.

Sure, many do (like Zappa), but it's not the whole story.

  • @polaris20 I think you should have a listen to Periphery's album as that is completely recorded with the AXE no cabs no amps just everything coming out from the Ultra. plus TY uses the Axe Fx Ultra now direct in his album recordings. Using the stuff live for effects only is understandable as they have contracts with the amp companies which they won't break... But the AXE does basically anything a heavy cabinet does. Cynic use it as a whole rig now Animals As Leaders Periphery,Adrian Belew etc.

  • @immortalsoloist Bulb and Ty Tabor can get amazing tones out of a Pignose. :)

Again, I think the AFX is awesome, and would love one if they weren't so expensive. However I wonder if truly given the choice if Vai, Petrucci, etc. would use it exclusively. I guess you and I won't ever know for sure. Belew has been using modeling for ages. He was on the Johnson Millenium, then the Vetta, now this.

  • @polaris20 Well man.... Indeed the tone is in your hand but the AXE does the job amazingly. As far Petrucci yes he is using it as he has mentioned on his own official page that he is meeting with the Fractal guys to work on his rig. tY has actually mentioned where he used the fractal so yup its happening :)

  • I've watched many of these Axe-Fx vids and a good friend of mine has one that I've heard live several times. This device is very versatile and has it's uses but sorry...it's not the same as the real deal. Take a look at all your guitar heros. They didn't have all this new fangled digital modeling crap. If you're a bedroom tweaker fine. If you're in a band where you need a ton of different sounds and effects, fine. But if you want old school tone...get real amp.

  • @funkyjones

Actually.. Petrucci and Vai use them now.....

  • @Petrucciisgod123 Notice I used the past tense. My statement is still true. Even the contemporary players like the ones you mention didn't start with multi effects processors. I have not heard them use this device. Maybe they can make it sound pretty good but in both Vai and Petrucci's case, they play a lot of high gain shred. Some effect processors can sound ok in that context.

I guess I should have said, "The great classic players like Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Beck didn't have this crap".

  • @funkyjones How could players of the past use technology that didn't exist? I think you would be very surprised how many players use modelling in the studio these days.

  • @Petrucciisgod123 And another thing. I'll bet you the farm that after the novelty wears off both those guys will be back playing on their conventional tube rigs. I've seen this many times. Most guitarists are either searching for the perfect tone or versatility and convenience. Usually they discover the latter is a compromise when it comes to digital gear.

  • Awesome player, excellent FX... they really show the versatility of the amp... and even then it's still capable of so much more.

  • great player, way to many effects for my liking

  • @thricegod1288 he's showing off the axe-fx for gods sake. axe-FX

  • @thricegod1288 It's mainly to demo the stuff the unit can do. This unit will replace all your pedals and you can use it in moderation as you please.

  • @thricegod1288 well go sucka dick ur not listening then
