when you said its not poisonous, well you're right. no spiders are poisonous. however, it is venomous. all spiders are. the golden silk spider, or golden orb weaver, as you call it, actually has venom similar to that of a black widow, just not nearly as strong.

This spider is truly beautiful, but I wouldn't touch it and if it came too close to me I'd panic on finding a way to make it not be close to me without hurting it.

I'm fairly certain i found one of these spiders in the jungle in a very peculiar spot in Brazil.....only it was black with red stripes, and the larger of two i came across had a leg span of at LEAST 10"...i thought it was closer to 13" but i always wonder if people don't blow things up in their minds eye. @CaH6633 You are thinking of the wrong spider. There are several spider nicknamed banana spiders, but this particular one is actually a golden orb spider. No death from venom, no erections. Just a little sting. :)

why are people getting mixed up with a Banana spider & Brazilian spider?yeah there both called banana spiders but banana spider/Golder Orb weavers have bright yellow spots(which is the female)and are harmless its vemon is more or less like a bee sting.Brazilian Wandering Spider are the ones you need to worry about since they have one fuckin hell of a strong venom thatll kill you in minutes flat
