Oh com' on, really? compare SRV with Clapton? They are two different players with two different styles, they can't be compared to each other! Both are great and extraordinary guitarists. And saying SRV i repetitious is for me a sign you haven't really listened to SRV, but thats my opinion...
@smellycut you're right..clapton is a master, but stevie..is the best blues guitarist of all time..clapton on stevie:"he was one of the greats..i have to tell this story:we played on the same bill on his last two gigs.on the first night,i watched his set for about half an hour, and then i had to leave because i couldn't handle it!i knew enough to know that his playingwas just going to get better and better and better.his set had started,he was like two or three songs in,and suddenly got that.."
@smellycut "..flash that i'd seen before so many times whenever i'd seen him play, which was that he was like a channel-one of the purest channels i've ever seen, where everything he sang and played flowed straight down from heaven.almost like one of those mystic Sufi guys with one finger pointing up and one finger down.that's what it was like to listen to.and i had to leave just to preseserve some kind of sanity or confidence in myself." Guitar world, may 1998.THANK YOU STEVIE,R.I.P.
No one like SRV - what an incredible contribution to the guitar world - What do we have now? Kenny Wayne Shepard - John Mayer - Wolf Mail - Gary Clark jr???
SRV... I humbly bow before your amazing skills. I can remember everything about the moment I found out SRV was killed. It was in the morning radio I was listening to at work. The sun was shining, but it was a black day for me.
@DRGK9 no i just like how eric clapton plays... his style is much more cleaner than stevie more crisp licks and runs while stevie uses open strings alot which i hate its just a different sound theyre both good but ultimately eric is better player and the rest of the world of thinks so too
@ElliotJMusic um no because i have asked about 124 people and they all agreed with srv being better. and you cant say eric is better because hes "cleaner" because people like jimi hendrix werent nesesarily "clean" and people still think hes better then eric. do you play? probly not. because if you did you would know that stevie ray vaughan has a more complex playing style which far surpasses eric clapton
guitar lesson? please. "excuse me mr. vaughn....can you do that one part again real quick....i think i missed a note". how is it even possible for someone to play like that?
@PWINNxXx20 Listen, salami, you have no talent or musical sense to criticize ...you did not notice the rhythm that has the song? you did not ditch it was not a raging rock that required to ignite riff guitar? WAS A BLUES BROTHER, A BLUES !!!!! learn music first, before to criticize such a genius of the blues like Stevie Ray!!!!!
@ladygard1 I appreciate you sticking up for Stevie, I guarantee my dad was not dissing him. I actually have no idea what he meant by the comment, but he worships the guy. Trust me, I grew up watching the same VHS of him playing live at Red Rocks over and over...
@ladygard1 Also, if you were using an internet translator and were trying to call my dad a dick, you ended up calling him a processed lunch meat. Which is awesome. XD
i have a couple of guitar vids that are in a SRV style, id love it if you could check them out and give me ur feedback! please help out the NEXT GENERATION OF THE BLUES. cheers every1
@OOjanickabollockov I don't see why people want to learn from the internet. Music is not a visual art. You use your ears to try and pick up on what they're doing! You ask people who know. What are you going to learn by looking at tabs other than a couple licks? You don't develop style, you just string a couple licks together that you learn from different tabs rather than interpreting it however you want.
@jonahtran1 Frethub don't use tabs or teach licks. Its like having 2 personal guitar teachers who show you the fundamentals of understanding music, how the guitar works and how to recognise the techniques that are being used so you can learn and develop your own style. Much better than learning random licks and tabs on youtube as you pointed out. I couldnt agree with you more!
one question is the soft"V"shaped neck can handle the 013 gauges? i want to buy Fender Road Worn 50's Strat. and make sound more same of SRV . and the Fender Standard with Modern neck can i do the same thing? someone says add the springs is that doing alright?
@JiessieZ18 You can put 13's on any Strat with some adjustments. The biggest thing is being able to handle 13's on your guitar and be able to play what Stevie did. It's no easy task.
@downhome7500 The only "adjustment" you need to do is to detune your guitar half or one tone, if you put on 13's and tune your guitar to standard tuning, the neck'll buckle up. I once put 14's on Tele and tuned it to standard tuning, I couldn't believe the bow the neck turned into!
@warrenginmartini id replace bon jovi with lady gaga and britney spears. bon jovi does have a knack for melody at least and theres some artistic value there.

I am an acoustic blues artist who loves stevie ray vaugahn, i want more people to hear my videos, but it seems that i can't without a couple of likes on my comments, so if you like to like things, please like my comment so people will know i exist!! thank you in advance and HELL YEAH STEVIE RAY WAS THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was fortunate enough to see SRV live twice. Seen lots of greats, but gotta say SRV was the most emotional, powerful player I've ever seen. RIP. I hope where he's at he's got that house a rockin'.
Hey just a question to payers out there trying to learn. what is the most common thing that you think is missing when you try to learn from a video or a book?
@Mattcallaway86 Brother, I've been playing twenty years and I'm still learning. All of us are. Learning never stops. We are all eternal students. To try to answer your question, I'll say this: Learn from videos, books, guys at your local bar, cat's sitting around guitar stores, teachers, etc. Anyway, anyhow, anywhere you can gain knowledge take advantage of it. All musicians love to talk shop and share knowledge. The ones you meet who don't....fuck 'em.
@tomthefunky Thanks for the advice but I was more interested in what people think is missing from method books or videos. That way those things can be addressed. I would love to hear your advice on that seeing as how you are knowledgeable in this subject. Thanks!
@Mattcallaway86 Feedback. Books and videos are left open to what your interpretation of the material is. A book or video wont correct you if you are making technical errors, and practice makes permanent not perfect in those situations. If you truly want to progress in the right way find a professional teacher, not player, there is a world of difference between being able to play and being able to teach others to play.

i really love how humble and respectful to the other members of the band he was..
that jerk keeps asking questions like " You won a grammy.." or " How is your version.." but he answers " WE'VE been nominated.." and " OUR version is"
@odingr You can't really call the interviewer a jerk... When he said "You won a grammy" he could well have been referring to the whole band, seeing as Stevie is one of the members. If he was referring to the band how would you expect him to phrase it? Saying "you" as a reference to the a group is perfectly acceptable.
They should have had an interviewer that was more hip about blues. SRV speaks of how brit blues is hotter and the guy asks about the "mersey beat." Loser.
SRV is my sons idle, Stevei was one of the greatest! my son is working on carrying the torch, check out Bobby at youtube, srvzepp my favorite is "the Room" Dazed and confused video. Thanks!
Wow! watching this leaves me with a big decision. Shall I pick up my guitar and practice 45 hours a day, or just take it and sell it, as I have no hopes of ever being close to this good.
@WeKickBabiesOfficial Amen, you shut up and realise how lucky you are that you are getting a personal freken sit in with the greatest guitar player that ever lived!
@guitarfreek393 and the sound got sent forward through a rift in time to play before the video from there on. I about fainted from awe in how he could play notes while appearing to play something totally different until I noticed the separration in tracks.
@Shink5 if you play death metal, then you probably like SRV for the wrong reasons...it probably has something to do with the fast playing and technical ability, doesnt it?
@YanksFan162 Black Sabbath , then Slipknot , and then Slayer , and then Cannibal Corpse and Whitechapel , also the freedom you get while playing , You can be as fast as you want , as technical as you want , as slow as you want ect
@Shink5 the way i look at it, guitar playing is not about speed and technicality, but the emotions you transmit through the instrument. srv is a good example. dont you find that most of today's metal bands, especially lead guitarists in the genre, play too fast and technical to actually have any human emotion or that dirty raw feeling that blues guys get?i feel like alot of those metal guitarists play fast to show off, and not actually accomplish anything on an emotional level. CPUs can do that.
@YanksFan162 Well it depends , I agree with you that there are alot of bands today that abandon fell and emotion for technicality . But some bands like Whitechapel have lots of emotion in their music (Listen to their instrumental Death Becomes him its got a very dark vibe to it) , The Acacia Strain is the most pissed off band you will ever hear , Michael Ammott from arch enemy is an incredible player so is Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom.
@Shink5 im talking just about the guitar playing when ispeak about emotion. All around musically, metal bands have no problem with mood. thats the root of my problem with most of metal. all those "dark, brooding" songs are, to me, poser-ish. its like every metal band needs to be angry, write about cliche topics like war and death and injustice, and play heavy and fast to show this. not that they all are phonies, but its such a recycled formula its feels idiotic and corny to me,and not creative.
@YanksFan162 As a metalhead all I have to say is that its angry music for angry people , Anger is an emotion , which is why we play aggressive music .
Y'know, FannyEssen1, I was watching this video AGAIN & I realized AGAIN how right you are! Think about it, even when he was loaded he could still bring the goods. Pick something you love, kids... practice A LOT and maybe..... ;)
this is great up until 3:55 and then its the same old same old cliche tortuired artist yawn yawn bullshit zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
i love stevie but i think this whole drugzs thing and the recovery cliche was bollox its like im not a big religeous believer but its like he wanted it both ways i am going to be a druggie to get more musical bullshit debauched and then i am going to get straight and become more musical and spiritual. and you know what i dont think you can have it both ways now if i were a believer i would think thats why god called on him early
we dont know anything about merseybeat- you tell him, stevie

@guitarfreek393 and the sound got sent forward through a rift in time to play before the video from there on. I about fainted from awe in how he could play notes while appearing to play something totally different until I noticed the separration in tracks.

The only lesson I ever learned from Stevie Ray is, I only *pretend* to play guitar...
DrDespicable 3 months ago 34
@DrDespicable Thats a great way of putting it. Was that something Stevie said himself? If so do you know how I could find it?
gunsnbam 1 month ago
@gunsnbam No, that's something *I* said. Stevie Ray was so good that, listening to him play, I often wonder why I even bother trying.

Blake101st 4 months ago
@Blake101st I dont get it either , Im a Death Metal guitar player / singer and I think Srv is a God !!!!
Shink5 4 months ago
@Shink5 if you play death metal, then you probably like SRV for the wrong reasons...it probably has something to do with the fast playing and technical ability, doesnt it?
YanksFan162 3 months ago
@YanksFan162 Nah ive been listenning to blues and rock since before I was into metal
Shink5 3 months ago
@Shink5 the what the heck attracted you to metal, and especially death metal?
YanksFan162 3 months ago
@YanksFan162 Black Sabbath , then Slipknot , and then Slayer , and then Cannibal Corpse and Whitechapel , also the freedom you get while playing , You can be as fast as you want , as technical as you want , as slow as you want ect
Shink5 3 months ago
@Shink5 the way i look at it, guitar playing is not about speed and technicality, but the emotions you transmit through the instrument. srv is a good example. dont you find that most of today's metal bands, especially lead guitarists in the genre, play too fast and technical to actually have any human emotion or that dirty raw feeling that blues guys get?i feel like alot of those metal guitarists play fast to show off, and not actually accomplish anything on an emotional level. CPUs can do that.
YanksFan162 3 months ago
@YanksFan162 Well it depends , I agree with you that there are alot of bands today that abandon fell and emotion for technicality . But some bands like Whitechapel have lots of emotion in their music (Listen to their instrumental Death Becomes him its got a very dark vibe to it) , The Acacia Strain is the most pissed off band you will ever hear , Michael Ammott from arch enemy is an incredible player so is Alexi Laiho from Children of Bodom.
Shink5 3 months ago
@Shink5 im talking just about the guitar playing when ispeak about emotion. All around musically, metal bands have no problem with mood. thats the root of my problem with most of metal. all those "dark, brooding" songs are, to me, poser-ish. its like every metal band needs to be angry, write about cliche topics like war and death and injustice, and play heavy and fast to show this. not that they all are phonies, but its such a recycled formula its feels idiotic and corny to me,and not creative.
YanksFan162 3 months ago
@YanksFan162 As a metalhead all I have to say is that its angry music for angry people , Anger is an emotion , which is why we play aggressive music .
