Thanks to you brother, I served 1983-1988, 501st Signal Co Camp Humphreys ROK, 1984-1986 USAISC Ft Leavenworth KS and 56th Signal Co, Camp Darby, Italy
Thanks brothers. Was stationed at the 616th AC&W radar site on a 3,100 ft hill not far from Fulda's 1st Calvery Div 1960 to 1963. Fulda gap was the place where enemy would thrust if it ever came to a hot war. Was only passable plain between Hunsruck and Rhoen mountains. Thank God peace prevailed and finally all of Germany was reunified. We would have been expendable for sure, our strength at the time was only 100 in our squadron with only small arms .
As much I appreciate and respect anybody joining US Armed Forces without knowing what is waiting them and if they will survive, that much I will always disagree that so called Cold War was an actual war. To me it was an nuclear arms race and thank God it was not a war. This video proves it; nt one soldier is holding any weapons and most of the time loks like something else that is not military combat.
I spent 6 years in 3 Armored Div.'Spearhead. At The ROCK in Kirchgoens A 2/33 Armor 76-79& Ray Barracks 1/32 Armor BANDITS 1980-83. Saw alot of Graffs ,Hoenfels ,WildFleckin and ARTEPS! What a memory. I get COLD just thinking about those years! Was a Tanker and then a SCOUT: SCOUTS OUT!
Thank you. One died in the Phillipines, three in Grenada, one wounded in Panama. Others with renal problems from long days in MOP 4 without water. Many went in to Desert Storm, only heard from one of them after that. One friends brother went over-board in the Med. Another sucked into a F15 intake. One frozen to death on a flight line in SAC. So many of us did 18 hour days when others did 30 hour weeks. . We were told that we weren't "real" veterans.
when is this country gonna reconize cold war vets and let them be entitled to the same as any other vet like early buyouts in pension plans among others
Thanks for your comment. I agree with you that history the ability to repeat itself if we don't learn from it the first time. I think that we are in more danger of a Nuclear war than when the USSR existed. At least they had control of their weapons back then.
Amazing how in so few years the American people have forgotten about the Cold War.. I remember doing the Nuclear war drills back in grade school. My military career started right when it was ending, so I got the old training, now it seems that people are so naive and think it can never happen again.. I hate to say it, but I think we will see it again, and all us cold war people may not be around to stop it when it happens.. and I would bet it will happen again..
@hawkuser604 Haha, you are truly a badass but your generation can rest my friend. It is our generation who must pick up the fight. As your enemy was the red banner of communism, my generation's enemy is the green banner of Islam. Welcome to the 21st century America.
thank you, tho I was Armor, I was in Germany 79-82 and went through the same things you did. Thank you for your service my friend.
