The various immature and politically nonsensical responses from chinese officials, in reaction to Liu Xiaobo being awarded the nobel peace prize, don't make me doubt this story one bit.
I used to respect Dhalai Lama but...In 2008 he said he would be very happy to settle with just being a leader of the Tibet under China. He didnt care about Tibet people at the first place. He just wanted to be in power. He is definetely not a monk. Monks arent power thirsty like him. I thought he really cared about Tibet before 2008.
Graffiti research lab is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts. Students for a free tibet are funded by the National Endowment for Democracy. Both of those organisations now carry out overtly what the CIA used to do covertly. In other words this guy is a puppet of the US government and is up to no good. Why believe anything this guy says. For a balanced report a representative from China should have been interviewed too. This is biased one sided propaganda.
Thank you for helping to expose the truth about Chinese treatment of Tibet and Tibetan people. What you did will help the cause of oppressed people of Tibet. Thank you again.
Bad sign for Communist China. Communist China will died like a Torch Flame in Paris by it own citizen.
Beijing Sensors News: Shamefully Betrayal Olympic Idea is a shamefulness to China and a disgrace for Chinese citizen. China 's image more damage and unpopular.
CCP's sin: Oppression, Brutal killing, silent critics, violate human rights will stain Beijing Olympics sponsors by association law. You support the bad guy, your company guilty as they were.
note to james powderly: if you think protesting or whatever can help, please do something about the US...free iraq...free afghanistan...we're ruining their country and you're protesting on something that has nothing to do with you? stupid moron.
i love james and his work, but he is essentially describing guantanamo extra-lite. maybe it only sucks when it happens to an american.
i know he's as vocal a critic of american policy as he is of chinese, but there is something ironic about americans going to china to tell them how to live their lives - and then getting locked up for it. as if the same thing wouldn't happen to chinese activists building political devices out of lasers in NYC.
anyway, great story james. keep up the good work.
Spoken like a lame white liberal. How is that being heroic, he didnt die for his lame cause. He did not mentally broken down in the gulang. In fact he is in this interview talking like a sane person. So much for self sacrifice and being a cardboard hero to the chinese people. LOL. The chinese people do not need his help. Please... He is no Dr Sun Yet Sen...
I just returned from a month long job in Beijing. I was surprised at the extent of China's manipulation and control of every aspect of information flow there. Our broadcasting equipment was scanned and tested constantly and I have no doubt our internet and phone calls were closely monitored. Our translators were not aware of even basic knowledge about the worlds geo-political history. Its a sad world there.
Stupid ass, why did you get arrested. Causing problems in China? Breaking their laws, shame on you. Damn liberals, breaking the laws in some other country and expect so call rights.
You make it sound like he was ignorant of the laws and the possible outcome. That's not the case.
They went there and did what they did, knowing they would break the law and knowing it would become a big story. They did it to expose the Chinese governments suppression of it's own citizens, as well the subversion of Tibet. They risked their lives to right an injustice being done to total strangers. That's the very definition of heroism.
PS: Google Gandhi, Freedom Riders, and civil disobedience
Wasn't it Gandhi who said we must be the change we want to see in the world? Also, In Letter from Birmingham prison, MLK detailed that he was INVITED by an organization to demonstrate in Birmingham. I don't recall Powderly being invited by anyone except himself

What he described is what happens to an American in a Chinese detention center. The Chinese know they have to "play nice" with the US.
Imagine for a moment what he might have described had he been a Chinese national in that detention center.

Thats the silliest thing i've ever heard. From my experience, Chinese students are better at world geography than ur average American student.
Seems more like a silly guess from your side.

Just what is your experience in Chinese-American geographical education then?

Please note that I was referring to 'Geo-Political' not "Geography".
