  • CDwinder 5.6 and 5.7 seem to get stuck while trying to catalogue/index ".mkv" video files. Any ideas on a fix for that besides changing the file extention or deleting the files? thanks.

Is there a discussion forum for CDwinder users?

  • @upcycle depending on the installed codecs, video files can sometimes still be a problem. but of course you do not need to delete your files!

Have a look at the section "Prevent CDWinder from cataloging specific files" on page 34 of the CDWinder documentation to find out how to use our DatabaseSettings to exclude certain files from cataloging.

We'll be working on a GUI for that, and more robust cataloging in the upcoming version 6 of CDWinder.

And no, beside this one, there is no forum yet.

  • @abengineering Thanks. working on that now.

Are these files, in the sample "databaseSettings.xml" file ("_M.mov", "_F.mov", ".png") known to have issues, is that why they are there? Or are they there to illustrate what file exclusion commands look like within the xml file?

  • @upcycle no, those are just samples to illustrate the usage of the XML.

We haven't had problems with mov's or png's in general.

  • @abengineering i followed the instructions you gave me. and it completely resolved the issue with the MKV files.

Looking forward to MKV files being included in future updates to CDwinder.

    Thanks!

  • I noticed that CDWinder cataloguing process seems unable to deal with RAR files that are password protected. Is this correct? If so, is there a work around for that?

  • is the CDWinder catalog data file compatable with CDFinder? Suppose someone wanted to use a mac sometimes and a windows machine other times and wanted to access external media, without issue of having to re-enter notes, or re-catalogue disks with the other platform.

  • how to catalog external hard drives plugged in via usb?

  • once you plug in your external drive, and it is mounted by Windows, you can just drag it onto CDWinder to have it cataloged. Or navigate to it in the chose folder dialogs, when you create a new catalog via the menu commands.

  • could you make a video demonstration of that process? I was not able to it. Will try again.

Other users wud also benefit by that kind of instruction too.

  • you're right - the basics video is a bit short on the cataloging process itself. I'll be producing a bunch of new videos after the upcoming release of 5.7, and I'll make to keep an eye on that then.

For now, just follow these steps : Chosse "Create New Catalog of Disk" in the File Menu, or press the leftmost button in the main toolbar. You may be asked to confirm your cataloging options, and then get a choose folder dialog. Here you choose the (external) drive you need, and CDWinder catalogs it.
