I remember how important it used to be for skaters to do Compulsory Figures, and how now, fortunately, that's long gone. As physical as these athletes have to be, I still hope that some day technical achievement will take a back seat to artistic impression. It's sad to think that a years work hinges on one triple axel and not overall artistic impression. Alissa is elegant and striking, and just about the very best skater we have.

That's an opposite skater I am one too. I got to see Alissa Live at a little competition in Michigan. Greater than Grand Rapids. i said hi and she said hi. she skating beautifully but one very hard fall she was like in a jumps literally spinning sideways. woah! but she got 1st! Go ALissa

Contrary to popular belief, spinning clockwise doesn't necessarily mean she's left-handed; it just means her dominant side for turning is different than most people. Right-handed people can spin clockwise and left-handed people can turn counter-clockwise.

It's like having a left split or a right split; it's independent of the dominant hand for writing.

I have the honor and priviledge of attending Bowling Green State University with her, and I met her. she is stunning skater, I think she is artistically stronger than Kimmie and Emily, she has more improvement vs bebe and I think she is like Sasha

Her spirals have been very impressive and incredible, I was wondering about her future as an olympic gold medalist, if that is possible. She generally started at the age of 2 which I found it quite remarkable, knowing and learning about her prior experience as a figure skater. The other thing is that her eye-popping extension is hard to believe and is breath-taking. Her jumps are improving!

Actially, I was viewing Alissa's skating, and is very impressed with the elegance and her fine form which shows through her skating. She seems to glide effortly on the ice unlike others seemed to be quite unpolished. Also in her "I" spin, her extension is absolutely outstanding. I have to say that Alissa has improved so much that she definitely deserves a shot at a gold medal. I also forgot to mention she positively shines throughout her skating program.

Thanks for the people who made really nice comments. Jumps can be a difficult thing to master. I know what you all mean when you say i need to get my jumps to level that my spins and spirals are. Jumps have never been my forte. However i've been working on them with my coach and hopefully i can get them all clean for the 07-08 season! Thanks for the tips.

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I guess its good and bad. It makes me think wow, I should really work on such and such, but I am happy also that I did pretty well here. I am my own worst enemy when it comes to critiquing myself and I know what I have to work on. My goal is to entertain and keep the crowd on their feet. :)

I guess it is what it is, and it was hard to go through that, but I don't deserve any special treatment and deserved what i got. I didn't do my best at Worlds and I didn't expect to medal. I'm glad we didn't complain because it has made me stronger and more prepared for this upcoming season. This has all been a journey and a learning experience.

Dick Button is WAaaaay biased. I don't Alissa's THE most EXQUISITE skater I've seen. Maybe among the U.S. skaters, yes, but nothing in the world stage. Also, she skates very unsteady, like as if she's going to fall if she jumps a little higher or something. I don't like her music either.

Oh im sorry, i completely disagree with you there. Alissa is a TERRIFIC skater, and Dick Button is absolutely right in saying Alissa is the most exquisite skater...her spins are the best in the world, and she does not skate unsteadily, she has long and beautiful lines and has an amazing glide on the ice. Her music is beautiful, and if she could just get her jumps completely together she could easily be the best figure skater in the world.

Wow- phenomenal! Just imagine if she didn't pop the triple. She would definitely have taken first... no doubt. She has more finess than emily and much more than Kimmie. No one can match Alissa's spins either. I think she may get gold next year! I hope so!

Her flexibility is better than Sasha Cohen's. Sasha has no tension in her spiral, her torso is lower than Alissa's who creates more of a "V" tension in her spiral between her torso and free leg. Overall, Alissa's spins and program elements are better than Sasha...however, Sasha is a better jumper, although not very consistent herself.

Well, Alissa's forward spiral is not has flexed as Sasha's or Emily's. Alissa does have a better back position in her spiral, but the leg is off to the side, which is not a pure line like Sasha or Emily. Plus the biellman variation is not high enough! If you see skaters that have a weak biellman position in their spiral, it's a sign that they cannot handle the edges to bring it up higher.
