I don't see these options in either program except for the Sandbox Tools in Google Sketchup, and the Terrain checkbox which is in Google Earth's. I don't see Get Current View option either.
What I did to get the image into Google Sketchup was to simply save the map output in Google Earth to a JPG Image then Import as Image into Google Sketchup. Since Google Earth exports the colored map already no need to do all those lengthy steps.
@KnightChatX The process outlined in this video would be applicable to anyone using SketchUp version 7 or earlier. In SketchUp version 8, this process was greatly improved. Users can now import a color satellite image (Both 2D and 3D) directly from Google Maps by way of SketchUp's new "Add Location" tool (located in the Google Toolbar). The process for adding color satellite imagery no longer requires the user to have Google Earth open.
I want to project a 3D view of a masterplan that takes place on quite high sand dunes terrain in the gulf of Cortez, the guy that did the rendering, "forgot" there were actually dunes in the project, so everything looks flat in the photo!
Can I use this tool to project the 3D view of the masterplan on top of a terrain I did with sandbox? I do as you say in the video, and the projected texture box is checked, but I see tons of "pixeled" little boxes :(
Alright, I'm having problems with my terrain model. I have imported the google earth image into sketchup and used the toggle terrain tool. Now I am trying to create a solid peice of land from that exact terrain so that I can desgin buildings right on that peice of land without the actual ariel image from google earth.... HELP PLEASE! =[
yeah, the 'place model' tool ignores anything on the google terrain layer and the google snaps layer.
after you modify the terrain, try moving the modified terrain group (both the group, and all of the edges and surfaces inside the group) to some other layer, like Layer 0
Thanks, that helps. Next problem: after Place model, the new terrain has been put into GE some 1.7 degrees turned. When I turn the new terrain in SU with 1.7, and choose Place model, the terrain fits almost but not exactly. Will this be a problem for the Best of-layer? Or is there any solution?
Hi. I downloaded the sandbox and it's really fun but I'm still a beginner, how do I make it so that there is an icon on top of the objects (I.e. people icons on top of the ai). I'm talking about the blue things on top of the people, and the images of a camera when you spawn a camera. When I do it, I have just a person with no icon. When I make a road it just comes out with a road, no pink lines how do I fix that?

sounds like you would need to use the stamp tool to create the kind of foundation you're trying to make.

Fine, but when I do Plavce Model to Google Earth, the Toggle Terrain layer is not visible.
My transformation of the layer, in order to get the tarrain fit to the model, is not visible. What to do?
