  • Unfortunately Sir James is no longer with us. But you can contact Charlie Rose @ his website & Laura Tyson @ Univ. of California - Berkeley - Haas School of Business

  • got to feel for Jimmy. looks like he wants to cry over washington stupidity. Bet this girls still believes her own bullshit.

  • @dickiepipes indeed, she has to be the dummies bi*** ever, I want to punch her in the face. This is economic 101, lower production cost, more money duh. stupid bitch trying to make a futile argument.

  • THIS TALK WAS SOOOOOOO BRILLIANT !!!!! i am so sorry i had not the merits and pleasures to hear this talk before :P But i thank you for putting this up and promoting these amazing and awesome words on your page/channel. i pass these links on to my facebook page, with the hopes and prayers that more can benefit from seeing a real hero talk and deal with one of ''the industry's gate-keepers -- Charlie Rose'', as he tries to ''manage the damages'' that mr James Goldsmith's words make.

  • Interviewer interrupts too much and is likely a shill for his corporate masters.

  • Charlie Rose, if you don't feel like a putz now, you are an idiot!

  • World War 3 is our only card left for us to increase jobs in America, lol She is an Idiot!

  • Charlie looks so confused... awe.. poor charlie :/

  • WOW DID THIS GUY HAVE A CRYSTAL BALL! HE COULD NOT HAVE SPOKEN ANY CLEARER! I KNOW EVERYONE LIKED CLINTON CAUSE HE GOT BLOWJOBS AND PLAYED THE SAXPHONE BUT HE ABSOLUTELY DESTABILIZED OUR COUNTRY! SIMPLE AND PLAIN OUR CONGRESS IS BOUGHT AND I AM SICK OF THIS SHIT!

  • ... Fuck. He was right on the money.

  • Whether he was a corporate raider or not, a good guy or bad guy, that's not the point here. The point is his views in this interview are right. And he's been proven right now. Look at the jobless situation in the USA now.

  • What he was a corporate raider or not, a good guy or bad guy, that's not the point here. The point is his views in this interview are right. And he's been proven right now. Look at the jobless situation in the USA now.

  • This guy is a genius. Laura Tyson is your typical Ivory tower/government type with little real life experience in the business world. The BIGGEST reason why American MNCs build factories in developing countries is lower labor cost. Laura Tyson was either stupid or dishonest not to acknowledge this. She kept saying MNCs were doing it so that they could sell to the host countries.

It's a pity James Goldsmith died so young (relatively). A pity that he's vindicated only posthumously.

  • Charlie is a complete idiot. of a corporate plant...interrupting with stupidity......diverting the discussion away from key important points, to avoid having the speaker finish his point the obvious . .i wish charlie would have just shut his ignorant mouth and let the man talk. It didn't need to be a dialogue, but a monologue by Sir Goldsmith.

  • what a hypocrite. he destroys all the industry in britain and america then preaches the dangers of free labour markets.

  • Goldsmith was one of the people responsible for the problems he is outlining ....

  • Very good interview, especially seeing where we are now (after NULAB, the banks and crony capitalists got together) Note the 'horror' balance of trade deficit - the much smaller UK economy has been running a deficit at levels not far off that value.

I wonder if Clinton found some way of keeping that woman quiet? Apart from talking official line clap trap - she is irritating!

  • @somersdave That woman went on to serve the Obama administration. Go do a Google search on her name On of the big issues in US politics is that people with horrible ideas like Laura Tyson usually get recycled within politician administrations of the same party.

  • @d0gM3at Sounds like a typical sell your soul case to get a decent job with the scum. Peoplle like that make me sick! Instead of selling your soul why not work for the good of humanity. We all get rcih, nut your neighbours and commuinty doesnt suffer, and you can sleep better at night.

Its people like her that enable governments to inch their way forward to having a prison state

  • ha ha i just had a really funny thought - imagine if Borat tried to wind him up - he'd demolish him

JG was a man - a straight talker - very logical thought process - of course if you get your stuff made abroad your country will go to pot .... he saw what was going on - he suspected a conspiracy cos he wasnt a stupid nut

  • his own background and what he did in his career is largely irrelevant - he talks a lot of sense and what he is saying about the labour re-distribution is 100% correct.

  • charlie rose need to STFU and listen for once. fukin bitch.

  • I guess he grew a conscience at the end :/

  • @rh7onda7 Perhaps.

  • This is fascinating , so if you build your factory in China you merely supply the Chinese market ? . Or do you close down that annoying factory you own in the USA with all its workers wanting trivial things like rights and simply export back to the USA and make a huge profit?

I'm not a businessman but thats a done deal , to hope for anything else is a failure to grasp market forces.

  • @hablerz The trouble with buying Chinese made products is that you can't tell if the person who made this is not either dead or in a labour camp because they don't have trivial things like rights. Do you ?

  • @DavidAKZ Yea i dont support the transferance of production to China, i was just saying that corperate people will do it becuase they only see the bottom line.

I argue with people regarding national interest and the bottom line , you dont see national interests on balance sheets. Such as move key industries offshore to minimize operating costs.

  • Every president, since the 70s has been a globalist, neo liberal. Clinton was a died in the wool globalist, neo-liberal. He considered himself a citizen of the world not an american.

  • You can tell Charlie Rose is very uncomfortable with Greensmith. Greensmith was totally right. He predicted 10 years properity in the US after NAFTA, exporting automation to the State of the Art Factories being built in the third world. When that was over he predicted 5 million more americans would fall below the poverty line. He was also correct about that. The last round of GATT was on mammoth scale now we have complete deindustrialization of labor intrensic manufacturing.

  • And it's the same reason there are no jobs available to pull the US out of the current recession, because they are not enough to go around.

  • Goldsmith's thesis is so straightforward it confounds the purveyors of abstract economic theories on the left and the right. Once a country off-shores it's manufacturing, wages are busted because the majority of those displaced workers end up in lower paying service sector jobs, not alongside H1B tech employees in San Jose. The purchasing power of an entire country is cannibalized and it results in a lower standard of living even before you index inflation. The Wal-Mart-ification of the USA.

  • Charlie Rose is an idiot and knows nothing about economics. Sir James saw what was happening then and what the long term consequences of the consequences would be, we should have listened to him ! Laura is a goverrnment scrill and is just spouting the usual Kensyian propaganda ,she's totally clueless about what's really going on !

  • While I was out on the football field, I was missing the BIG picture that Sir James Goldsmith is speaking of. No more sleeping or being distracted!!

  • @3:47 Charlie Rose laughs - what are you laughing at, you idiot! you stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid little man! Rose should have spent the whole of that time listening. This was the #1 topic for developed economies in the last 100 years...AND this man (Goldsmith) had his finger on the pulse of that issue!

  • @theporksicle Corporate raider and an asset stripper, not an angel himself for sure. I don't know what his reasons were for critisizing GATT, I can only speculate, but I guess his participation in the destruction of UK industry gave him a pretty good knowledge of the process. If you're interested, there's a documentary called Mayfair Set on his and the likes past. I would say he did the same thing only on the smaller scale as GATT did to economy overall, part of the reason he was so predictive

  • @vantagepointmoon Do you think he had an epiphany ? I saw the Mayfair set. I thought it portrayed the destruction of the old established order of which Goldsmith was a part by those that were deemed to have no class - only access to debt to take part in hostile take overs.

  • @vantagepointmoon Sir Goldsmith did it for the 'lulz', so to speak. YOU and I, and he knew how GATT ends - World War 3.

There is no void to fill with excess of unemployed people. This is an engineered crisis - what is the end-game is the question.

  • @theporksicle: does the fact that he was a corporate raider invalidate

his opinion. Judge the evidence of free trade for yourself. Does China engage in Free Trade? No, they engage in trade policies that will build their industrial / technology base. No great economic power was built based on truly Free Trade. The U.S. did not become the World''s greatest manufacturer in the 1890's via Free Trade policies; the US had relatively high tariffs to protect its growing industrial base at the time.

  • @theporksicle

look, I am reading his book "The Trap" right now, after I got to know him with this interview. You can tell whatever you want about the fact he was a multibillionaire man any way, but everything he's warning us about in this interview and in his book are regularly happening. So I don't care about his career or his motivation, what he says simply makes sense and it helps to insert another piece of the puzzle at the right place.

  • @theporksicle - he may have been, that does not change anything in this case - he still speaks clearly, straight to the point and (as history shows) was quite right. And it ain't that easy - lot's of rich people, few are those who speak, and even fewer are those who can speak like him.

  • Brilliant man.

This is almost as embarrassing to watch as Art Laffer in the Peter Schiff was right video.

  • That "woman", is now an economic advisor for Obama.

We live in a world were treason is rewarded and no good deed goes unpunished.

  • Wow! Is that bitch stupid or what? jeez! They save money because they employer cost less over there so they will employ more people here? hahaha!

  • The cunt is full of shit. Goldsmith was 100% right. Sixteen years have proved it.

  • bullshit = "outsourcing jobs out of America is proven to increase jobs IN America"

  • Interesting.

  • This woman has had a stellar career

and her ideas destroyed the USA

    I favor capital punishment.

  • @VoIPpoetry drawn and quartered

  • Charlie Rose is a CFR globalist shill (as are Bill Moyers and every "news" anchor on US TV). Does Charlie apologize now for his stupidity in 1994? NO...he pushes the Obama agenda. THIS interview clearly shows Charlie's true colors (corporate meat puppet)

  • When you analize people like this Laura Tyson and so many others like her you can only reach 1 of two possible conclusions:

1- Even though they are academically very sucessfull they dont have a clue of whats going on

2- being academically respected they defend positions that clearly favor corporations and not the general people , and defend them like they benefict the general people , they basically lie for wealth and have no morals!

    I pick number 2

  • @YaBaDji I pick 1 -giving her the benefit of the doubt.

  • Boy did she prove herself wrong. Maybe that's why she is in the Obama administration, he like to have people around him whose world view is completely divergent from reality. Excellent video.

  • Phrenologically speaking, she is a shrewess

  • If I'm not mistaken the discussion was about GATT. Goldsmith isn't per se saying that production shouldn't be outsourced. He is for tariffs to protect domestic industries so that locally produced goods produced on US wages can be viable in the US market.

  • Not a single word about tariffs, I wonder where did you find it. He is against a 'free-trade' agreement - the one, which is designed by the governments and one that does primarily benefit the governments. 'Free trade' isn't that free and that's exactly his point.

  • @GregHuismans YOU ARE AN AGENT OF PARASITISM

  • That's a standard answer, but the argument wasn't about protectionism, you missed a good half of it.

  • @GregHuismans your ignorance shows. if you don't have the guts to compete against slave labor, then you deserve to fail i guess.

  • @mrzack888 If you consider slave labor to be your competition, then yes you do deserve to fail. Do you have any idea of the wage levels and power of the unions in Germany? Does Mercedez-Benz or Porsche consider sweat shop economies to be their competition?

  • @GregHuismans did you know Germany is a protectionist country? your ignorance shows.

  • @mrzack888 So Germany is not bound by the agreements of the Uruguay Round of GATT? Is that what you are saying? Besides I wasn't talking about just Germany. Boeing and McDonell Douglas aren't going to worry about Bangladeshi and Vietnamese sweatshops taking their business. Innovate and win.

  • @GregHuismans yeah whatever, trying to change the subject. Boeing and M Douglas don't have to worry about developing nations taking their business, as of now. But who knows in the future. First they came for the low skilled jobs and I said nothing, then they came for the mid level jobs and I said nothing, then they will come for you high tech jobs, and nobody will say anything.

  • @GregHuismans Tell that to the relatives of people who committed suicide in Foxcomm to further the great American dream.

  • @GregHuismans LOL. Guts? Yeah, it takes guts to beat women, employ children, dump waste, pay nothing, demand long hours, and have unaccountable employers. If you think that's going to increase jobs here, you're ignoring reality. There's a reason we had these economic policies in place for 200+ years AND IT WORKED... And NOW it isn't.

  • Clueless? Even back then she had achieved more than you will ever do in a lifetime. She was the top economic adviser to an administration that saw an historic period of economic expansion. I despise Democrats but give credit where it's due.

  • There are many people who achieved more than I will in my whole lifetime, but yes she is either clueless or outright lying. Which one do you prefer?

  • @GregHuismans Yes, she was the top economic adviser to an admin back then, but the lies that they told that were the foundation of the economic 'expansion' were really about hollowing out the substance of the American economy. The 'expansion' was an illusion. The production that made the middle class possible was exported to cheap labor countries to benefit the corporations. We see the results of these actions in today's economy. She wasn't clueless, but she was purposely dishonest.

  • @morpheus1994 She is/was complicit

  • @GregHuismans bullshitting is still bullshitting.....

  • @GregHuismans u realize there is LAg time between when its enacted and when job losses happen...clinton started free trade the jobs started realy losing under bush...consumers used credit...instead of jobs...then the market crashed and obama doesnt know what to do cuz there are no manufacturing jobs...it will get worse and worse....

  • Idiot then Idiot now...

  • follow the money.. government advisor?I say she is a corperate shill

  • Sharp point made vpm, It's more so what I hear Sir James say, in 94 !, It's sounds mind bending to hear him talk, I could listen to this guy all day. And Yeah, I have a fast forward button, her spin is no different than todays variety, just a little harder to swallow. Nothings Changed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Can we edit this ANNOYING woman out of here? I was really enjoying that interview, maybe get Stacey Herbert in there?????????

  • She was indeed quite annoying, but I'd leave here there just to show how clueless economic advisors to presidents could be.
