You made some great points in this video, but I think the most important and most overlooked aspect of Maia's story is that she suffers from a mentatl illness. That is the root of her drug abuse. A lot of people who suffer from mental illnesses turn to drugs as a coping mechanism to kind of "balance out" the thoughts in their minds. Great video!

Mental illness can strike anyone, at any age, at any time. NO ONE is immune to mental illness. Some people who are mentally ill try to self medicate by using illegal drugs. That only makes the situation worse. Bi-polar disorder is a chemical imblance of the brain that can sometimes be controlled thru the managed use of medications developed for the illness. Update. I just read on blackweb2.0 that as of Tuesday 9/8 she is in treatment. She's been going downhill for years, and then her mom died in 2006, and now she's fallen hard! This has been going on and only getting worse. I think that this recent video made people realize that she really needs help...and somebody or persons stepped up to get her the help that she desperately needs! I'm keeping you in my prayers Maia.
We really don't know if she was prostituting. We should use the word "alleged" unless she admits to it or is convicted in a court of law for that illegal act. Otherwise, it's hearsay & I don't know many prostitutes who (knowing they are on camera) would solicit business. She could've been doing that for show. We don't know. Another thing is, when people are wrapped up in negative lifestyles, it's hard to get them out of it unless they want help. We don't know who may have tried to help her.

It is very common for those suffering from a severe mental illness to eventually start abusing drugs, and vice versa (abusing drugs can trigger the onset of the mental illness). So I would not be surprised to find out that in addition to being Schizophrenic, Maia is also a drug addict.

Apparently she has been mentally ill for a long time, and was getting help. She was doing better and went downhill once her mother passed away. Sadly, drug use would be her way of self-medicating. =( Celeb or not, I'd feel outraged if I saw anyone else in that video being taken advantage of.

Update. I just read on blackweb2.0 that as of Tuesday 9/8 she is in treatment. She's been going downhill for years, and then her mom died in 2006, and now she's fallen hard! This has been going on and only getting worse. I think that this recent video made people realize that she really needs help...and somebody or persons stepped up to get her the help that she desperately needs! I'm keeping you in my prayers Maia.

We really don't know if she was prostituting. We should use the word "alleged" unless she admits to it or is convicted in a court of law for that illegal act. Otherwise, it's hearsay & I don't know many prostitutes who (knowing they are on camera) would solicit business. She could've been doing that for show. We don't know. Another thing is, when people are wrapped up in negative lifestyles, it's hard to get them out of it unless they want help. We don't know who may have tried to help her.

Excellent point. People really have to be willing to help who they can when they can, famous or not. I will add young men because in the same way help shouldn't be limited to stars, it also shouldn't be limited by gender. My understanding is that Maia is bi-polar. Her mother, author Bebe Campbell Moore, who passed (probably the main factor in Maia's current state) in 2006 (two days after Maia's b-day), wrote "72 Hour Hold", with her struggles with Maia as the inspiration. It is very common for those suffering from a severe mental illness to eventually start abusing drugs, and vice versa (abusing drugs can trigger the onset of the mental illness). So I would not be surprised to find out that in addition to being Schizophrenic, Maia is also a drug addict.

I don't know if she is on drugs but, her Mom Bebe Moore Campbell bought to light that Maia is a schizophrenic who wont take her medication. So, her behavior can be a direct result of that. Her behavior became more prevalent to the public when her Mom died of brain cancer a few years ago.

Maia obviously made some bad choices. Someone can offer her all the help she needs, but she must make the "choice" to receive the help and go through the process of recovery from whatever. until i see her selling herself or doing a actual drug, rehab ect then i will believe that but until then something is wrong mentally and i know and have people in my family that are bipolar which to people that dont understand it will think all types of stuff about a person. God bless and I am praying for her and all women and children that are going through a lot in their lives,

This vid is sab but the vid doesnt specify anything about her being a prostitute or on crack it hasnt shown that at all, just her talking about a lot of stuff that didnt make sense and how she is trying to find her dght, she could really have a mental problem and i hope that someone helps her before something gets worse or happens to her or her dgt, we can talk abot this all day but still doesnt mean we know the exact facts,

I saw the tweets from the celebs talking about their shows, etc and I was thinking how tacky it was to do that selfish bs. If she gets help those same folks will be the main ones on the media talking about how they did this to help her and did that...just a bunch of trifling ish.

Poor girl. I think that her mother's book was about her. (I think it's called 48 hr hold) Thanks for talking about this. I prayed for her and her family and will continue to do so. It is sad no matter who is going through it. My own mother is off and on with this same issue so I know how hurting it can be to fam and friends around you. I praise God that he kept me from having the same story.
