im confused with the form factor of this mobo. is it regular ATX or micro ATX? from their website, it's regular, but he keeps on saying that it's a micro. so which one is it? i need to know this so i can decide my casing. thanks in advance.
@wikireadery This motherboard to me looks like a micro-ATX as it's square shape, ATX ones are rectangular shaped which this one in the video doesn't display.
If I'm wrong, I'd suggest you get a case that can hold both form factors for when you upgrade/change your mobo in the future. Most midi cases will do just that.
@Knightmares100 No, i forget the biggest card you can CrossfireX with, but you can however use two 6870's in Crossfire, only at 8x each respectively. This will defeat the purpose of having an APU, unless you look at the cost to performance ratio.
@totallykaos I did Iv got that motherboard and I bought the A8k version and overclocked to 3.5, I have 8gb of ram but I did not buy the 6670 instead due to sales I managed to pick up a 6850 for £79 they normally sell for £99-£130 so I picked up 2 and ran them in crossfire...My brother in law has a sim build but is using a I5 2500 (not k) and my system can keep up with his In some cases Im only 2 or 6 frames behind in games using a 22inch monitor at 1080p...my system was £200 cheaper
@totallykaos Ye I agree I cant wait to see the new improved APUs...but at the time I needed a huge upgrade over my e350 but on limited funds, and in the uk intel is so high the price of a I5 in the uk I could use the same money and buy a i7 from the states....so went with the A8 to fit my needs Im a mmo player so dont need a huge powerhouse of a pc...I could have went with bulldozer but fx4 that was in my price range isnt much of an increase of the a8
@cyberboy109 moan :( that they are so expensive in the UK. i live in the netherlands and here is the price of a 2500K €190 euro's. how much pounds are that actually?
maybe i can buy one for you and send it over to the UK.

i bought one of these 2 weeks ago threw in my old 5770 8gb of ram a A8-3850 a blue ray drive in my older haf 912 case great little casual gaming/meadia pc for my basement

@AJAYbumblebee APU better for gaming and can be comined with another HD 6xxx series GPU. On the other hand the i3 is better for applications like video editing. You will save alot more cash making a APU/FM1 build witch is just as good as an i3 build.
@AJAYbumblebee if you're going mid-end performance, A8 and that i3 are at the same price mark, but you will get more benefit from a low end graphics card in crossfire (for a lower price) than what you would get from buying a 300usd standalone nvidia card.
Linus has made some benchmarks, you should totally check those
@1914Sephiroth i admit i don't have a lot of expirience with evga, but i replaced about 300 motherboards of private people, companies, and offices in the last 2 years.
the VAST majority of them were msi. then, altho Gigabyte are high quality mobo's - their "life expanse" is only about 1.5-2.5 years, and then they "suddenly" die, like there is a timer on them. lastly - i didn't replaced EVEN ONE Asus mobo...
1 of my PC's is 6 y/o with an Asus motherboard, and STILL working very good.
@1914Sephiroth sorry man, i'm talking only from my personal expirience. and you'r right - it is ridiculous.
but i preffer to be sound "ridiculous" then let them buy things that wouldn't work well for them so they won't blame me for not telling them about it. telling them to buy msi when i really dont think is a good idea - i would just feel like i'm scamming them...
i preffer happy costumers then to hear complaints from them, and that heppened to me before with msi...
@TheMaristBoy from what i've seen, Asrock were pretty good. as for performance, it's not as good as gigabyte, asus or interl boards, but it was still fast, reliable, and with good compatibility with other companies hardware. if gigabyte had longer "life expectancy" to it's boards i would place it in number 1 together with intel and asus.
if everythings works good for you then dont change it. but if you want to buy a motherboard, i would choose asus or intel first.
@waseem1173 who? you mean if i replace a new motherboard and send it back to the manufacturer?
actually, i wasn't talking about new motherboards, but about those who are about 1 year old or so.
i really hope the manufacturers don't repair them, but learn from their mistakes (i hope...), but honestly i dont really care what they do with it, as long as i get a new board :D
@eitan71 oh sorry when you said as a technician i just joined dots and thought that you're talking of people who send over their MSI and Gigabyte boards to you for repair. my bad brother. didn't knew you were talking about your experience with used boards.
@eitan71 I hear a lot of people saying that they have a lot of problems with their ASUS motherboards.BUT,ASUS motherboards have the BEST BIOS ever made
@eitan71 Everything breaks down eventually. I have replaced many many boards of everything. Asus and gigabyte have similar reliability. MSI is another story, depends on the mainboard type.
@joske102 i agree with you. yes, everything breaks down eventually. and yes, Asus and gigabyte have about the same reliability. But, gigabyte, for some reason have short life. it's like they put a timer there telling the mobo to stop working after1-2 years... from what i've seen so far, i think Asus and Intel motherboards are about the same quality, altho Asus are just a little faster. msi is not even a company i would buy anything from...
Can you please help me with something please? I 'm wondering whether or not an AMD Phenom II X6 would work with the ASUS Crosshair V Formula AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard with 3-Way SLI/CrossFireX Support and UEFI BIOS ASUS Crosshair V Formula AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard
Or the ASUS F1A75-M PRO FM1 AMD A75 (Hudson D3) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
So, you can combine any High End card with the APU, so no need to buy 2 GFX cards to run Crossfire... that's cool.... and less expensive... Makes buying a new PC more attractive.
Linus, I know you're not an AMD fan, but I want your opinion. I'm looking to build a new gaming rig for somewhere under $1000 and I was wondering if I should use an A8 APU or wait for the Bulldozer to be officially released for comparison. Also, I might do water cooling at some point; what would you recommend using? I will probably want to water cool the apu, graphics card, and possibly the ram. If you see this, your response is greatly appreciated.
@rkr1995 I'm not Linus, but I'd wait for Bulldozer. Chances are you'll splurge on a system then be punching yourself a month later. I did when I got 2 460's before the 560's came out. And, while not so close in release cycles, I went with a Sandy Bridge system because this was long before the announcement that SLI would be supported on AMD boards. (Never using ATI cards; bad experiences)
As for water cooling, not worth it unless you're heavily overclocking and/or worried about noise.
@AceStrife Thanks. I probably will wait to see how they perform. I personally would like to have a chip with new architecture, the APUs are still based off Phenom II technology as far as I know.
@TheMaristBoy See, this is why i dont like intel. They put out new cpu and motherboard chips which sound fantastic at the time, but then a few months later they announce newer and greater stuff. So here i am, just like u, ready do buy all my z68 and i5 2500k parts, and now im stuck thinking if i should wait. though, the thing with technologies is that they will alqays expand, and unless u buy every year u wont have the beat thing all the time. I say buy wat there is now. But then u have to thin
@BRAeminem but there is a solution that is rather psychological than economic. Buy your stuff, be happy with it, and do not blame yourself for not waiting for the coming, because there will always be newer stuff to buy. And if you do so, you wont enjoy the things you have now. This happens to everybody. I bought a brand new PC some months ago. Now I have a badass PC, but Sandy Bridge E will arrive and my CPU won't be the best anymore. Thinking this way, I should save and wait for 2020 ;D
@BRAeminem Even though, I have waited for sandy bridge to come out and I bought it just after the B3 stepping was fixed. So, if you know that a new generation of GPUs or CPUs is coming out very soon, then wait. Because if you buy one and on the other day they release new stuff you will get mad.
Question: I'm planning to build a PC this christmas (so I can play BF3 and MW3) But should I wait for Ivy Bridge Q1 2012 (and PCIE 3.0)? or is the Z68 platform for xmas still a better solution?
Hey can some one give an honest response? I want to play some games and render videeos and not do that much multi tasking. Should I get the intel 2600K and massively overclock it, or should I get the new AMD 8 core BullDozer CPU?
@SaodiFilms Wait til bulldozer comes out.... no one's too hyped about it... if anything you could wait til sandybridge-e or ivy bridge... q4 2011 and q1 2012 respectively.
@Ptro001 Sorry there kid that was the management synopsis, it's a few pay grades above your level. Whatever non fact based remarks you'd like to include are, I'm sure, very important to you.
@nilbud i personally own and payed for myself a very expensive intel based Gaming machine, and you dont see me sucking the dick of fanboyism and saying that AMD sucks, which i believe is also a non fact based remark, since AMD has dominated the market in terms of product value and bang for you buck even though intel has the larger market share and does produce the more powerful chips
@Ptro001 just so u know, the more powerful GREATLY depends on what you doing. Multitasking,
intel wins by a large margin, gaming amd won by a large margin. You should check some
large tests reputable review companies do regarding the ongoing dispute The fastestl always
depended on what you are doing. Myself, I prefer intel even though they lost in gaming, it wasn't like amd was playable intel not , amd just went above. I chose intel since you can never
@ronaldh33 He dosen't have the account under his control yet, he should get it soon though. In case you didn't know, this channel was hacked a while ago, and all the video's were deleted.
Google was able to retrieve the video's, but I guess is still working on giving Linus control back. Linus did say that he will continue to upload video's regardless of what happens. (On his other channel Linuscattips)
@ronaldh33 Ive killed a few sticks of ram before, but other than that. i haven't really killed anything myself. ram isn't too expensive but linus is handling the most expensive equipment out there.. i am just thinking "he must be insane!"
@ronaldh33 "and here is the new GTX 590! lets pop it in and see what it can do!" * linus puts it in and it doesnt work* ...... "well thanks for watching!" *linus cries*
@gisforjesus ooh, then he must feel real shitty about himself. most pc components can be touched without special gloves or other special preperations.
@nilbud no, right. From experience. I build my pc without special gloves. I touched all the components (seems logical if you're building) and it works! Works great actually. I even overclocked my amd phenom 945 processor to 3.7Ghz.
@gisforjesus yes i think it is. But if you have socks made out of wool, that stuff from sheeps, that guides the static energy. I really have no idea how it possibly works, but I do know that if you have clothing which guides the static electricity (sound stupid), than you're in deep shit.
Hey, I have a question that probably any of you guys can answer. Will a 850W power supply be enough for a build including two EVGA GeForce GTX 580 3GB video cards in SLI, a Intel Core i7 2600K processor, and a Asus P8Z68-V Pro motherboard?
Why would one want to use a A8 or even slower processor for a crossfire solution (the Bulldozers are AM3+, so they won't fit)? It's a 8x crossfire so guess there are implementations for none gaming puproses, but what are they?
Did you build on this board yet? It has a 50/50 rating on n3w3gg. I got one and it was DOA. Doesnt seem like a very reliable board/chipset

bradahbob 7 months ago
@ Linus,
Can you please help me with something please?
Please someone reply.

Another great video. I like people confirming how you pronounce Asus. He says it just like I do! My friend thinks its pronounced a-suss.

wow this board is awesome!
othniel1991 7 months ago
So, you can combine any High End card with the APU, so no need to buy 2 GFX cards to run Crossfire... that's cool.... and less expensive... Makes buying a new PC more attractive.

Linus, I know you're not an AMD fan, but I want your opinion. I'm looking to build a new gaming rig for somewhere under $1000 and I was wondering if I should use an A8 APU or wait for the Bulldozer to be officially released for comparison. Also, I might do water cooling at some point; what would you recommend using? I will probably want to water cool the apu, graphics card, and possibly the ram. If you see this, your response is greatly appreciated.
rkr1995 7 months ago
@rkr1995 I'm not Linus, but I'd wait for Bulldozer. Chances are you'll splurge on a system then be punching yourself a month later. I did when I got 2 460's before the 560's came out. And, while not so close in release cycles, I went with a Sandy Bridge system because this was long before the announcement that SLI would be supported on AMD boards. (Never using ATI cards; bad experiences)
As for water cooling, not worth it unless you're heavily overclocking and/or worried about noise.
AceStrife 7 months ago
@AceStrife Thanks. I probably will wait to see how they perform. I personally would like to have a chip with new architecture, the APUs are still based off Phenom II technology as far as I know.
rkr1995 7 months ago
Can you take a look at the Sapphire PURE Black P67 Hydra PB-CI7S42P67 please:)
Hokrollo1 7 months ago
How does this perform comparred with a 1155 socket.
Mainly the 2500K on it.
tdsviper 7 months ago
@tdsviper
Doesn't work that way.
shubufubu 7 months ago
@shubufubu
Sure it does, does the A8 have better performance then the 2500 or 2600, 1155 socket.
Or is the A8 a midrange item.

BRAeminem 7 months ago
@BRAeminem but there is a solution that is rather psychological than economic. Buy your stuff, be happy with it, and do not blame yourself for not waiting for the coming, because there will always be newer stuff to buy. And if you do so, you wont enjoy the things you have now. This happens to everybody. I bought a brand new PC some months ago. Now I have a badass PC, but Sandy Bridge E will arrive and my CPU won't be the best anymore. Thinking this way, I should save and wait for 2020 ;D
elpedomasgrande1 7 months ago
@BRAeminem Even though, I have waited for sandy bridge to come out and I bought it just after the B3 stepping was fixed. So, if you know that a new generation of GPUs or CPUs is coming out very soon, then wait. Because if you buy one and on the other day they release new stuff you will get mad.
elpedomasgrande1 7 months ago
Question: I'm planning to build a PC this christmas (so I can play BF3 and MW3) But should I wait for Ivy Bridge Q1 2012 (and PCIE 3.0)? or is the Z68 platform for xmas still a better solution?

Hey can some one give an honest response? I want to play some games and render videeos and not do that much multi tasking. Should I get the intel 2600K and massively overclock it, or should I get the new AMD 8 core BullDozer CPU?
SaodiFilms 7 months ago
@SaodiFilms Wait til bulldozer comes out.... no one's too hyped about it... if anything you could wait til sandybridge-e or ivy bridge... q4 2011 and q1 2012 respectively.

@Ptro001 Sorry there kid that was the management synopsis, it's a few pay grades above your level. Whatever non fact based remarks you'd like to include are, I'm sure, very important to you.
nilbud 7 months ago
@nilbud i personally own and payed for myself a very expensive intel based Gaming machine, and you dont see me sucking the dick of fanboyism and saying that AMD sucks, which i believe is also a non fact based remark, since AMD has dominated the market in terms of product value and bang for you buck even though intel has the larger market share and does produce the more powerful chips

@FeeLtheHertZ and vice versa
Ptro001 7 months ago
@Ptro001 just so u know, the more powerful GREATLY depends on what you doing. Multitasking,
intel wins by a large margin, gaming amd won by a large margin. You should check some
large tests reputable review companies do regarding the ongoing dispute The fastestl always
depended on what you are doing. Myself, I prefer intel even though they lost in gaming, it wasn't like amd was playable intel not , amd just went above. I chose intel since you can never
be too fast multitasking.

Google was able to retrieve the video's, but I guess is still working on giving Linus control back. Linus did say that he will continue to upload video's regardless of what happens. (On his other channel Linuscattips)

linus you are never grounded when you unbox, yet you never destroy any components because of static discharge. TEACH ME YOUR WAYS :\

@gisforjesus just touch. i installed a couple of processors without any safety regulations.
ronaldh33 7 months ago
@ronaldh33 Ive killed a few sticks of ram before, but other than that. i haven't really killed anything myself. ram isn't too expensive but linus is handling the most expensive equipment out there.. i am just thinking "he must be insane!"

@gisforjesus haha, i agree with you about that. Imagina something would get killed 0_0

gisforjesus 7 months ago
@gisforjesus ooh, then he must feel real shitty about himself. most pc components can be touched without special gloves or other special preperations.
ronaldh33 7 months ago
@ronaldh33 You're completely wrong.
nilbud 7 months ago
@nilbud no, right. From experience. I build my pc without special gloves. I touched all the components (seems logical if you're building) and it works! Works great actually. I even overclocked my amd phenom 945 processor to 3.7Ghz.
ronaldh33 7 months ago
@ronaldh33 so does this mean ESD is a rare occurrence?
gisforjesus 7 months ago
@gisforjesus yes i think it is. But if you have socks made out of wool, that stuff from sheeps, that guides the static energy. I really have no idea how it possibly works, but I do know that if you have clothing which guides the static electricity (sound stupid), than you're in deep shit.
ronaldh33 7 months ago
@ronaldh33 i also heard being on a carpet floor will do some nasty shit with static.

Why would one want to use a A8 or even slower processor for a crossfire solution (the Bulldozers are AM3+, so they won't fit)? It's a 8x crossfire so guess there are implementations for none gaming puproses, but what are they?
