  • kevin stevens was a bad mofo before the hit on pilon. After the hit he was never the same.If stevens doesn't throw that huge body check in the first period he may have gone down in history as 1 of the top 3 power fwd's or 1 of the top5 LW ever.4 seasons in a row with 40+ goals including back to back 50 goal seasons. It's a shame he only played 2 more seasons in pgh after this mainly bc the physical style he played went away. The Pens got him back in 00-01 and he was ok,then in 01-02 he barely playd

  • lmao at 0:34 number 11 is like ahh hes a fuckin idiot

  • That was an awful soft goal Barrasso allowed on Benoit Hogue.

  • One of the biggest upsets ever in NHL history.

  • This was Al Arbour kicking Scotty Bowman's ass behind the bench by outcoaching him.

  • @vidlivs it was more of ulf samuelsson turning the puck over twice and barasso playing how he sometimes played in a game 7 on civic arena ice(fla series in 96)..Also Glenn Healy in this whole series was incredible.Mainly bc he was doing a lot of shit with an eye doctor and tennis balls in low lighting to see the puck better..It was goaltending and lack there of that was the difference.

  • I always wondered why this great Penguins team of the early 1990's sometimes needed six or seven games to defeat weaker teams like Minn, Wash, and NJ yet had no problem against the stronger teams of that era like Chi, NYR, and Bos. I suppose Barrasso being out of position and leaving his blocker side exposed on a regular basis had something to do with it.

  • @industrialsun wash and nj teams in the early 90's were not weak by any means..yet you somehow put the rangers in the strong catagory....

  • Healy was great. Unbelievable that that shithead Milbury went on a trade binge with that club. I think he was till pissed at the ass whipping Duane Sutter laid on him in the 1980 playoffs.

  • @ChrisDutch Don Maloney got ride of Healy,

  • How in the hell did the Penguins not win this series or even the Stanley Cup in 1993? They went into the playoffs on a 17game winning streak, yes, that's 17 wins in a row! Then, some homies from Long island beat them in 7. No wonder Montreal won the Cup that year, all the best teams in the league were eliminated by numerous upsets.

  • @Victor1970s healy won this game and typical tommy letting in a nice soft one from the blueline just like he did in 96 against fla to fuck us in a game 7.Actually the fla goal was closer to center ice..Just think this could have been the year that Lemieux and Gretzky met in the finals. In 1993 the NHL needed that match up very badly which actually may have prevented the lockout the following year. This was our best team ever and nothing came out of a very impressive regular season :(

  • @Victor1970s Then again,Boston couldn't even beat Buffalo nor could Pittsburgh over the NY ISlanders. Both the Sabres and Islanders were mere .500 teams on paper and supposedly not as deep as the Bruins and Penguins, respectively.

  • The Isles have not won a playoff series since they beat pittsburgh in 1993

  • Good ol' hockey, by the way. Well played. The "obstruction" didn't ruin anything.

  • Glen Healy was unconscious in those playoffs, but nobody was beating Patrick Roy and the Canadians that year

  • That Civic Arena stadium organ sounds like something out of Eraserhead

  • The best team in Penguins histry. Just didnt end up with a Cup.

  • healy looks so small!

  • My mistake the Isles just beat em.

  • The pens were worn out by this series which is why they didnt win that year

  • just let me set the record straight to u goof islander fans, tom barraso gave up soft goals in every gm in that series, when u cant win w 4 or 5 goals theres a problem.healy played tough,u never heard of healy again his career stats r poop!

  • You lost the cup that year. That's the bottom line. It's the team that matters, not the individual.

  • Back in the day when Islanders played with such passion! Thomas, Ferraro, Turgeon, Pilon ! Oh do they ever need another Turgeon today! I hope Tavares kicks in soon! LETS GOOO ISLANDERS!

  • WOw you cant get away with most of these plays these guys were doing.

  • Everybody said that Pittsburgh were going to win their 3rd consecutive Stanley Cup in cruise control during the '93 playoffs,& I predicted they would falter because they got too big for their britches.

  • screenshot or it didn't happen.

  • @landrykkb lst of all my man!!! we didnt get to big for r britches,TOM BARRASO WAS A BUM IN THAT SERIES,he let us down i mean he gave up goals by no names line 4 guys.that 92-93 pens tm was the best of all time even though we didnt win the cup just look at r stats that yr!

  • But my point is that the Pens were not the best that season where it mattered the most!Sure, they were statistically that season's best team, but that's all for naught if you can't duplicate that success in the playoffs!

  • this clip has violated nhl copyright laws & has been turned over to the FBI

  • Lemieux shaking Al Albour's hand at the end says it all. It says, "a hell of a coaching job Al," you did the near impossible. Lemieux knew Al was the architect.

  • Ironically, despite hating Kasparitis after this series, he became one of my favorite Penguins a few seasons later. XD

  • Turgeon dominated that year during the regular season. No one on the team even came close to him in points.

  • What a crushing loss!!! What was the the most crushing loss 1) This game 2) Sid Bream 3) Steelers/Chargers 1994 4) Pitt/Villanova this past year or 5) 48-14 (do I even need to say the teams?)

  • the penguins jerseys from 93 are the best, i love the white yellow and black i wish they would bring those back as a 3 jersey.

  • Davide,to bylo něco!škoda,že jsi nehrál déle..

  • kevin stevens..congrats on hurting yourself by trying to hurt another player

  • What a time for Barrasso to have an off-night. And I agree, this has to be the last memorable win for the Islanders.

  • Im an Isles fan and it is.

  • sad but true. i'm hoping tavares will give us a reason to cheer again.

  • I will never forget the day the isles won that game - i was in our den with my brother and my friend and it was one of my best sports memories ever - i was 15 and im still an islander fan actually went to one of the montreal canadien games in the next round the one they one but ferraro to volek and they're off to montreal - what a moment!

  • this was the last big win the islanders have had

  • Comment removed

  • The video from this game always looks like it's from 1893, not 1993.

Anyway it's just as well. This game was my biggest disappointment ever for sports. The Penguins dominated play but good old over-rated Barrasso was the goat.

  • BTW, these are the duds the Isles should still be wearing.

  • Kevin Stevens tries to take out Pilon and breaks his own Jaw.

I remember that really well...........freaking retard.

He was never the same, he went on to get caught smoking crack and banging two Hookers. Who was he playing for? The Rangers..........retards on retarded organizations.

  • hey guys, i live in east islip on long island, can someone tell me what channel i can watch for ice hockey? i have IO

  • damn the last time we won a playoff series nassau co get off your fuckin asses & get us a new arena

  • ohhh my ,Pens losing to Isles ..in 1993..

wow I was working in Fatra Napajedla that time and nobody believed they losed to Islanders.

David Volek scored that goal .

Pittsburgh could have won tripple, they had a team for that !!

  • I hate everything Penguin-related and I went absolutely MENTAL after I saw this live on TV. One of the greatest NHL satisfactions of my life.

  • You are MENTAL

  • Time to get out more, son...

  • I was at Square One (Mississauga Ontario) with friends and saw this goal on a TV there somewhere. Couldn't believe the Isles beat the Pens.

  • best penguin team ever

  • how can that penguin team, be the best ever? they lost to the islanders, 4-3!

  • They were the best team on paper -- They were better than the 92 team that won the cup, took the President's Trophy and went on a 15 game win streak that broke the NHL record. Unfortunately they peaked too early.

  • they lost because of barasso no more, no less, he stunk in game 6 and in this game 7 too. The 2nd and 3rd NYI goals were terrible. goals like that totally demoralize a team. Most goalies would stop the NYI OT goal too. kudos to Pitt for coming back to tie it though.

  • Yeah I was just browsing a site yesterday that had the stats on that game, Pens outshot the Isles 42-17 -- I did not realize the shot differential was that wide. Wow, definitely an epic fail for Barrasso.

  • It just serves as a reminder that you only have to make the most out of the few shots on goal you do get in a game;with a little or a lot of luck to boot.

  • Stevens on Pilon...classic. Can we get Healy back in net? I believe he can go a season without an injury.

  • well call him right after Dipietro gets hurt in the 2nd game of the season lol

  • I'm guessing that this season should be the end of the injury garbage being that the Isles lineup made about 50% of all injuries in the NHL this season. Just ridiculous...(holding head in shame)

While we are at it I am guessing that if Pittsburgh gets knocked out in the first round next year they will throw another season for a player.

  • Anyone know who Turgeon played on a line with for Game 7? I know he didn't have much ice time- his prescence there was more of a moral booster than anything.

  • One of the big upsets in NHL history.

  • I was at the JT OT Thriller......One of the greatest games I ever attended.....even after all these years...

  • You know I'm a Rangers fan, but it's sad as hell to see whats become of a once proud Islander organization. After the Rangers destroyed the Islanders in 1994, they never recovered to this day. I'd like to see the great rivalry we both had in the 1980's return.

  • I agree....The Isles and Rangers not being good at the same time for the past 20 years has really hurt the rivalry and hockey in general.

  • that glen healy played his ass off in this series and barraso gave up soft goals. barasso was overated he gave up soft goals vs florida to in 96 conf finals, fuck barraso and glen healy u never heard of him after that.another sick upset i had to deal with we lost vs scrubs pure fuckin luck by nyi and florida!

  • Ill never forget this game. The last good thing to happen to the Islander organization. What made this series win even more impressive is that we beat a budding dynasty without our best player, 50+ goal scorer Pierre Turgeon. Yea he played a few shifts in the series but he had a separated shoulder and was totally ineffective.

  • I vividly remember this too. I wish I could find the Jiggs McDonald (Isles announced) call though - that was priceless. I believe it was - "There will be a new stanley cup champion"

  • I remember this shit...I was crushed, even though I was only 12 at the time. This was the Pens best team ever unfortunatly it had to end this way.I still curse Volek's name to this day.

  • I loved that Penguins team in the early 90's. BUT-it was pure heaven when Volek's goal halted what in my opinion was Pittsburgh's third in a row. It didn't happen and the Isles are STILL the last team to get three in a row.

  • They booted a powerfull pens team despite the lost of their best player because of a BRUTAL play in overtime.

  • I disagree-

Penn's goalie SOFT on the Isles 2nd and 3rd goals this game. Especially the Isles 3rd.

Still Penn's nearly came back to win this one.

Their big mistake was letting the Isles tie the series at two and the pressure simply mounted from there- it was 7 and OT but they played right into Arbour's hands. (Al was a student of Bowmen-go figure)

  • Goaltending.

  • Stevens.........OWNED!

  • yeah i remember that game i mean how could i not bhecause io live in pittsburgh but we made ONE HELL OF A RUN IN 2008 THOUGH 2009 WILL BE DIFFERENT

  • Hard to watch - that loss was all about the injury to Kevin Stevens. Totally sucked the energy out of the team and the building (not to mention ending his career in many ways)

  • omg how was that not a hooking penalty at 1:35 even back in those days??

  • While everyone naturally remembers Volek's OT goal from this game, the first one he scored was a sweet play.

  • fuck you bellows was a pussy

  • that year was the HABS year

    vive moi vive MONTREAL CANADIENS

  • GET UP STEVENS YOU P*SSY!!! GET UP YOU F*GGOT!!! YOU LAY ON THE ICE LIKE A BROAD STEVENS!!!

I can only hope Brian Bellows was watching this with a big smile on his face. :-)

  • All '93 was for the Isles was a magical run that fizzled out, and with a healthy Turgeon in 1994, were decimated by the Rangers in a 4-game sweep, outscored 22-3. way to build on the momentum. The Isles haven't won a playoff series since 1993!!!!!!!!

  • Turgeon wasn't the same after the Hunter. He was never ever the same. It was mostly a mental thing it seemed.

  • Lets be serious, the 94 Isles team was Godawful and only got into the playoffs because Arbour is a great coach. I still can't believe after this run they didn't sign Healy.

  • This was 93, the Isles had 5 players with 30+ goals that year! No Turgeon (50+) this series either.

  • Actually Turgeon did play game 7. He's the first person you see in this video.

  • Actually The Isles had four players with 30 or more goals, Turgeon (58), Thomas (37), King (38), & Hogue (33). It was a big upset. The game where Fitzgerald scored two SHG's on the same penalty was astonishing. Barasso did not match Healy in this series and Arbour was always great at preparing his teams. What's baffling is that after the Isles got swept by the Rangers the next year, in 94-95 the Isles got rid of three of those four players and have not been the same since.

  • You can't put everything on the coaching, Penguins should of beat them...but you watched the video, they didn't.

Can't blame the game on anything, Goaltending at it's best!

  • Barasso did´nt play his best game and Healy played his best game of his career. That´s why the Penguins lost this serie

  • This is really one of the most horrendous Penguins moments ever. With that caliber of line-up, three-peat should not have been even a contest.

  • Great Memory. Isles would have won the cup that year if Hunter didn't cheap shot number 77. we lost every game after that in OT.

    P.S. Rangers Suck.

  • Well since they lost 4 games to 1 to the Habs after that I think it's a stretch to say they would have definitely won. It was a great run by them and I can't see an Islander fan being so sour about losing in the semis when the only reason your team got in is cause my choke ass Rangers lost like every fuckin game down the stretch. You guys miss the playoffs in 89, lose in the first round in 90, miss them in 91 and 92, but you should have won the cup in 93? Come on.

  • we lost every game in OT. if your best player is in the line up an healthy your not losing 4 games in OT in the playoffs. don't worry, you sound young enough that you might see the Rangers win the cup again in 2044.

  • No they lost two games in OT. Goals by LeBeau and Carbonneau. Don't you think that your comment about losing 4 games in OT could be easily checked up on by someone who watched those games. Like myself. I'm 35 by the way. They still would have had to beat LA in the finals, and quite frankly they overachieved in beating both the Caps and the Pens. It was a great run, but I don't think they would have won the cup. Roy was not gonna let in those shaky goals Barrasso did.

  • Game 5 they were down by 1 an let in 2 empty netters, plus the 2 OT losses. Pierre Turgeon had 132 POINTS that season!! if he is in they are winning those games. i think if you the Pens were better then the Kings. Pierre Turgeon was in bad shape still from the shoulder and couldn't be effective in the Montreal series. but i have NO DOUBT they would have beat the Habs if Hunter didn't do what he did.

  • I will concede your point. Turgeon was a monster that year and if he'd been healthy they might have won. But it was still a great run. Beating the Pens without Turgeon.

  • I personally think if Turgeon was Healthy Isles would have only won a game in the Penguin series, I think with Turgeon out the Isles gave everything they had in every second of each game and the Penguins might have toned it back a bit thinking the Isles didnt stand a chance to win a game

  • I on't know if that's true or not. Isn't this series AFTER the capitals. So if they were able to get by the Penguins after the injury why use it for an excuse vs Montreal?

Don't forget ROY WAS A BEAST that year. Unlike Barasso.

That being said Dale Hunter is an S.O.B for what he did.

  • good times good times p.s Rangers suck

  • Fix your mask again Bar ASS Hole.

  • This game ruined our dynasty...

    what a fluke...

look what happened to the shitty islanders

    in the next series...4-1 loss.

To this day, if I ever see Glen Healy I am

    going to bitch slap him!!!

  • this game? Islanders won 4 games, it was a 7 game Series, it wasnt a fluke, Islanders gave their all from the second the puck was dropped in Game 1 to the second it was over in OT of Game 7

Unlike the 1980s Islanders Dynasty which was won on hard work and skill the Penguins thought they would win on talent alone(they had no business giving up even a game to the Turgeon-less Islanders)

Al Arbour is also the greatest coach of all time, no question about it

  • LETS GO PENS!!!

  • Its amazing pittsburgh had a great regular season and lose in the playoffs in 1993. Kind like Detroit in 95-96 and Oilers in 85-86 both losing in the playoffs.

  • its so annoying to hear islander fans try to put their team on par with the rangers...you had 4 years of glory and thats it. yeah maybe you've had more cups in the last 27 years but in the last 13 years we've had more so eat shit. and i wonder where the islanders are ranked in vegas on their odds of winning it this year compared to the rangers??

  • those 4 years of Isles glory is better then the 80 years of Rangers existence,, so you might get better odds this year, who gives a shit

  • have you even seen the islanders hoist the cup in your lifetime? at least i can say i saw the rangers do it. (if you did see them and remember them well i feel bad bc your prob old ang gray now)

  • If you're a Ranger fan, why are you watching this video?

  • cuz it was a sweet goal

  • what a pass by ulf on the isles' first goal

  • The Stevens hit still makes me cringe. He was on his was to being one of the greatest power fowards ever and then that happened. This night is still one of the worst in Pens history.

  • Al Arbour took the Islanders by the throat that playoff year but his gas ran out against Montreal. Who would've thought that the underdog Islanders would beat the Pens in seven games...most people though the Pens would sweep them. Pens are at fault this series..they didn't take the Islanders seriously

  • What a shame. That was the best team Lemieux ever played on in Pittsburgh. Oh well. Crosby's gonna bring the cup back to the Burgh a few times...

  • another great moment in NYI history, this is awesome. LETS GO ISLANDERS!!! ALL THE WAY in 07-08

  • Good luck with Bill Guerin as your top scorer

  • lol...funny, huh. they are going to suck! rangers are going to rule!

  • like your Pens will get anywhere either...despite Crosby

  • LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL!

ALL THE WAY?! Not with Bill Guierin, and uh, Bill Guierin.

  • and....Comrie, Fedotenko and Hunter and some good young stars

  • yeah but after losing blake and smyth they are LIGHTYEARS away from contention. the rangers are now baby!

  • well, say what you want but your Rangers are always all hype and you have no defense so good luck with that, and Drury and Gomez are choke artists

  • this time they WILL live up to the hype. they MAY still get souray. its a slim chance, but hey, its possibility. even then the denfense isnt that bad. drury and gomez are as far from choke artists as i've ever seen. give me an example of them choking. drury scores clutch goals, same with gomez. cant wait. this team is 4 real baby.

  • um no Souray is going to the Island

  • lol.laughable. you have to FACE THE FACTS, you jelous islanders fans. your team is not on a par with the rangers right now. they are just simply better. and you also have to realize that NOBODY wants to play in that shithole also known as the nassau coliseum where only 4,000 people show up. so, souray is NOT going to the islanders. he may not go to the rangers but he is definatly NOT going to the islanders.

  • Sixty-Seven years - one Stanley Cup. Relax, dude.

  • no cups since '83 dude. at least we have one in the last 20 years.

  • again a retarded Ranger fan talking about the attendance, face the facts, more REAL Hockey fans show up at the Coliseum then have been at the Garden in 20 years, if the Isles get 12,000 fans, that is 12,000 real hockey fans, if the Rangers get 18,000 that is 10,000 Suits, 2,000 tourists, and maybe about 6,000 real Ranger fans, and once Rangers are out of the race that place is more empty then the Coliseum, Rnager fans = the most delusional pathetic fans in pro sports

  • real fans...like the retards that scream out "RANGERS SUCK COCK" during a moment of silence for the virgina tech shooting.

  • or Ranger fans chanting "Potvin Sucks" 10 times a game 20 years after he retired, of Ranger fans shaking the Ambulance of Pat Lafontaine after James Patrick knocked him out in the 1990 playoffs

  • i was at an islander/rangers game at the shithole (aka the coliseum) and some jerkoff screamed out "JAGR'S A FAGGOT!" during the national anthem .

thats much worse than anything rangers fans do.

  • nyr will live up to the hype in 2049, theres NO way they do ANYTHING this year. gomez scores clutch goals? HE HAD 13 GOALS LAST YEAR, stop being blind and wait till the season starts to run your mouth. NYR NEVER had a run like nyi did, regardless of how long ago it was. btw, bernie does rule but igawa sucks.

  • yeah i know. but drury is clutch. this is the year.

  • Well we have had our fair share of heartbreaks but we have eventually triumphed and had our moments of glory. The failures always make the eventual victories that much more sweet.

  • As bad as the Steelers losing to the Chargers in the 1994 AFC Title game. Two Juggernaut Teams from the same city, different sports, losing to vastly inferior teams on their home turf.

Cleveland sports fans may say they have it bad, but Pittsburgh has had it's fair share of heartbreaks.

  • Good examples of what you're talking about:

Last Pens regular season game game in 1990, loss against Buffalo

    1997 AFC Championship Game

    2001 AFC Championship Game

    2004 AFC Championship Game

1996 Eastern Conference Finals Game 7

  • your an idiot if u pay attention to the hit it was a half a second after the whistle.obviously u played deck hockey where theres no contact. that hit pretty much ended one of the best american right wingers in the history of the game. and what ever happened to volek after scoring that goal, lucky bastard that team was better than the 2 previous years.

  • No, it's an unwritten rule that you let up on icing calls, you don't go flying into the guy like Stevens did. It was borderline dirty on his part. An unfortunate injury yes, but more Stevens own fault than anything else. Bern1417, yet another chump who needs a reality check, try playing the game tuff guy.

  • i played the game for years buddy.all im sayn is that was a hit that happened @ the same time as the whistle, it was more of him trying to set a tempo in the first period, and get the crowd into it. but allit did was lead him into a hotel smoking crack.

  • can you imagine if lemieux's pens went to the finals and played gretzky's kings? the nhl would have been on top of the world

  • Hahahaha...yeah it was a late hit. Pilon was touching up on an icing/delayed penalty, and Stevens got greasy, it was a pure run at Pilon. We're not in video game world, kiddo, anyone who's ever played hockey knows this.

  • Late hit? watch the video again moron! If anything, the hit happened the same time as the whistle...got ears and eyes? Try using them both simultaneously asshat! Like you've played any level of decent hockey...saying shit like that! you have ZERO credibility.

  • Guinmaan, take off your black and gold coloured glasses and assess the situation here. Stevens came flying at Pilon with a LATE hit, and Pilon bailed on it, you don't deserve the honour of someone taking your hit when you come in like that. Stevens "rocking" of Pilon was about as legitimate as Dale Hunter's "rocking" of Pierre Turgeon in the series before.

  • A late hit? Your a fucking moron. If Pilon "bailed" as you claimed then why did Stevens face hit his visor? drawing an analogy to Hunter's hit on Turgeon...are you kidding? your a complete tool who knows NOTHING about hockey....evidently Kevin isn't the only person around here who indulges in the crack.

  • American idiot who knows nothing about hockey. "come in like that" hit a guy clean who just played the puck a half second ago? Speaking of "bailing" check out some old games of Scott Stevens grabbing his knees to avoid a clean hit from Kevin in many games. Scott's real tough as long as he's hitting a frailer man. If I had 20 bucks for everytime he submarined Kevin instead of hitting shoulder to shoulder i'd be retired. Your a fucking idiot!

  • Hahaha...your views on hockey are so skewed, I seriously question whether you've played hockey beyond 13-year old house league. For the record, I never actually said Stevens hit was as bad as Hunter's, I was merely refuting your ridiculous claim that "Stevens totally rocked the plug Pilon". Just like Jordin Tootoo totally rocked Robidas, eh? Only a Darcy Tucker-fornicating fairy like yourself would call a late hit "getting rocked". Yeah, late hit.

  • Use your admittedly limited brain capacity to see that Stevens WAS NOT EVEN GOING FOR THE PUCK. Maybe if you ever played high level hockey, you'd learn how to beak me as well, you sound like your almost crying on your keyboard. Who are you?

  • you're*

  • YEAH ISLANDERS! Too bad we suck now! :P

  • Ha! I knew some whiner would trash the Canadiens' Cup victory.

Like the 1986 Edmonton Oilers, the 1993 Penguins didn't have to get into a long series with an inferior opponent, but they did. Both series went to a seventh game and in one hockey game, anything can happen.

In each game seven, it did. The Penguins robbed themselves!

    Good shot, David.

  • Sabres beware. Anything can happen in the playoffs... anything.

  • We were robbed on this play healy played his ass off barrasso sucked yes but on the winning goal at 4:35 you can clearly see on th e backcheck not only was their interference on marty straka but even after he gets by he is then hooked and taken just enough out of the play. he doesnt get hooked and he clearly intercepts that pass and then who knows the outcome could have been different either way great memories and 2 cups not bad hope crasby gets them their third this year

  • i clearly see what you're talking about, im also a huge pens fan, but the day officials make that call in overtime in game 7 of the playoffs is the day everyone should stop watching hockey. such a bitter loss though. to hell with you volek

  • I was in Florida on vacation....doing victory laps around the house when he scored...

  • GREATEST. GAME. EVER.

  • This has to be the hardest loss in all pittsburgh sports. This, followed by the steelers loss to san diego a year later, are the two worst sports moments that I can remember. man I forgot how bad Barraso played that game. What a great team.

  • Completely agree!

  • Tom Barrasso, not his best moments.

  • I'm still not sure how the Isles won that series.

  • Classic Islanders. Voleck baby. Voleck.

  • kevin stevens is a fuckin sicko

  • Fuck the Pens Isles rule bitches

  • i totally agree, one of the worst memories of my childhood. i remember watching volek score that game winner and just thinking to myself "that didn't just happen"

  • I was 7 years old and left the game crying...tragic thing is I only remember Kevin Stevens never being the same again.

  • gravypan you are correct...what a pile of shit performance from Barasso. He was such a jerk too...

  • There are those who put an asterisk beside Montreal's Cup win in 1993; mainly because of the outcome of this series.

Well, I have to take exception to that, and not just because Patrick Roy backed the Canadiens to an unprecedented 10 OT wins that spring.

It was the Penguins own bloody fault, that they found a way to lose a seven-game series to an obviously inferior team from Long-Island.

Still, we must give credit where it is deserved....and I give most of it to the coach!

  • Take exception all you want. The bottom line is that the Habs didn't play the Pens or any other top teams to get to the final except maybe the Quebec series (who only lost because of youthful inexperience). The pens beat the 2 top teams from the East in 91 and the 3 best teams in the east and the best team in the west in 92 - no asterisks necessary

  • @guinmaan And the Habs even had to rally from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Quebec in that first round series. One can't help but wonder if only one of those OT games didn't go the Habs way.Nevertheless,10 straight OT wins is nothing to sneeze at.

  • holy crap does this bring back some bad memories... thanks for sucking so bad, Tom Barrasso.

  • This game was on my 22nd birthday. I was sitting in an Ohio University bar in Athens, Ohio watching this thing. I remember two things distinctly. Watching Stevens getting knocked out cold before his face hit the ice and sitting at the bar until last call with my head in my hands until last call. Because of this series I still hate Ray Ferraro to this day. He was such a pain in the ass all 7 games. This was the best team the Pens ever had. This video is making me physically ill.

  • the islanders will never win a playoff series ever again after knocking off the penguins during the most miraculous run any team could have made

  • I can't believe the Isles didn't re-sign Healy after that season.

  • Healy sucked and always did. At least he could say he played decent for 2 weeks of his NHL career.

  • Healy was the starting Goalie for the Isles for 4 seasons. After him the Isles went through McClennan, Hextall, Soderstrom, Salo and Fichaud in the following 4 seasons.

  • and then a bunch of others ending with the two most recent, Chris Osgood and Rick DiPietro and out of all of them, DP is the greatest

  • How can you rate DP better then Luongo? DP is good, but Luongo is easilly the best goaltender today.
