Its not depriving them of any freedom...both my Greys are captive bred and have never known how to fly. I keep their wings clipped at all times. And its not permantent, they do grow back. We (my wife and I) take our Greys out side all the time but would not even think of doing so without clipping them. Putting a leash on a leg is a good way of breaking the birds leg....now thats cruel.

You dont tie a birds legs.....if you dont want your bird to fly you just clip its flight feathers. If done right it doesn't hurt the bird at all. It's like getting a hair cut or clipping your nails.

Some bird owners clip their birds wings a little, so they can't fly as far, if at all.

We do it to our birds because one time one flew away. Saw him the next morning in a tree 7 blocks away, just.. singing. xD
