I was recently given a hand-me-down record player from my aunt and uncle, and found this song in a bunch of my dad's old vinyls. Truth be told I only had a vague idea of Captain Sensible from Glad It's All Over and Happy Talk, but this song is just brilliant. Easily makes my top ten.
play with toys till we make no noise - wake up people - the real anti social behaviour - grass on your neighbour - the captain was years before his time ! Join the Anti -Big Society Momentum now !
Cool idea with that milk bottle. WAIT...we did have this milk thing many many moons later, didn't we? Yes peeps... "Coffee & TV" by BLUR. Go figure :)
In Canada we still call it snakes and ladders. Crazy Yanks!!!! Actually most Americans are very friendly (at least to Canadians!) Great song, remember it from back in 1983.
I remember Captain Sensible predicting that this song would reach at least number one in the charts on its release in 1984. It should have been a big hit, as Radio One did play it quite a lot and Glad it's All Over had just been successful. A really good song that sadly got away in terms of wider recognition. 1984 was a brilliant year for pop and this is no exception.
Love finding these gems. The Captain was/is the king. One of the ultimate in combining humor and commentary in his songs. Some years after this vid, didn't every second rich American kid run around in a Lakers or Celts jersy trying to look cool. The Capt beat em there.
i think i was one of the few people who was actulay truly into cap at the time when all this stuff came out....i loved him and always got just how great this wonderfull music was..have to say at the time i felt very alone sometimes when i used to buy his 12inch and 7 inch records.....at the time in 1983-84 i was doin my yts as a chef in manchester and he stayed one time...he had chops and wrote on a peace of paper....to richard from uncle captain dadio sensible
Just out of curiosity...anyone know the significance of the Lakers & Celtics jerseys? Commentary on pop US culture? I didn't know anyone much followed hoops in Jolly Old!
Thanks Norm!! I can't find it anywhere and it's one of my fave raves! I went from hardcore 70s rocker to new waver because of this kind of stuff!
Hey Gar! KJET ROCKED! KYYZ was cool but more mainstream. My best friend recorded The Jet their last day on the air and this was on one of the tapes with no back-sell. Took the invention of the internet to figure out who did it! The Captain, Talk Talk, Stranglers, Freur, Martha & the Muffins, all that stuff was a blast courtesy of the Mighty Jet!!
Awesome! Takes me back to Seattle in the fall of 1984. The now-defunct alternative radio station KJET played this in heavy-rotation. Thanks,NormN354,for posting this pop gem.
Thanks for posting this I have been looking for this ever so long. This is such an awesome song. It was sooo much fun to dance to; certainly takes me way back. Thanks again for the post :)

I've met him. They say " never meet your heroes", but i'm glad i did. Nice guy, unpretentious.
He's got an album called Meathead. Listen to it.

This was the 1984 follow-up single to 'Glad It's All Over' which was only a minor hit and failed to make the UK top 40.
