Great start up video of what is in my opinion one of the best looking and sounding helicopters ever made. Used to watch these fly out of RNAS Culdrose when I was a kid on holiday in Cornwall.
all ex mod helicopters, enter civilian life on a permit to fly. this permit states you are not to carry passengers, but are allowed to take crew , eg for ground handling. so granny or children, etc would not be allowed.
it's just the woollen string mounted on a little stalk on the outside of the windscreen centre pillar - used as a visual aid for flying in balance. Twin Squirrel has it as well.
love the british army gazelle but i never released to start it you need to do all this stuff what the hell do you do if your under fire and need to get the fxxk out
It looks like a pain in the ass to start. It would be nice if you only had a key with an Chrysler Gear Reduction Starter. So many buttons and knobs to operate just to start the damn thing.
@jettech7 i agree fully, bringing an aircraft like these to life is part of the appeal!...today's modern systems take all the fun out of the anticipation before, finally, leaping in to the air
for an ex mod about 150,000. but you can't carry passengers.
a genuine one will set you back 250,000-350,000 depending on hours and condition.
if you want one contact martin wood helicopters. and if you want to see lots of gazelles in one place call in at breighton air field. a chap has 6 there.
omg i absolutely love your videos!!!! im normally a fan of anything allison 250 powered but seenas ive been up close to a gazelle a while back they facinate me more and more!!
its just a small request, but if you get the chance to video it again, please record the startup and once he engages the rotor system :)

@jettech7 Indeed, it is pretty simple when you know what you are doing. You don't wan't a non-pilot trying to fly that thing...

I don't know how much they cost. But if you get the ex-military versions they're a fraction of the price.

Only buy one if you need to dump some money to avoid paying tax.
Once you qualify to fly one, you could self fly hire as needed for around £500 per hour at a guess.
