Rand's novels appeal to geeky, sexually inadequate guys who can't get laid. Look at all the adult male virgins in them. Even if a hero got lucky with a girlfriend early on, like Francisco d'Anconia, he had to go without sex the rest of his life while pretending that he still had game. Someone like that in real life would probably go on a shooting rampage against women out of sexual frustration, like George Sodini last year.
People who do manual labor for the sake of themselves and their achievement would be welcomed into such a community. There's actually a conversation in Atlas Shrugged where one character asks another for whom he created his work. One of the types of people he asks about are those who don't have the mind to ever create such work, but who work with every available faculty they have to create all they can. The other character answers yes, he did create it for people like that.
i remember a time when history was taught that it was conspired to happen and when the Illuminati took over the education system it was taught that it happened just because it happened. Ayn Rand is not a superficial read. Her work is best studied, not skimmed. I had to do so myself.
To fully grasp her fiction, I recommend almost any one of her non-fiction books (collections of essays, so they are short reads). I've read six of them, now. I can't single out any one of them to suggest for first-time readers, though.
I started with "Philosophy: Who needs it?" and moved on to "For the New Intellectual," and "The Virtue of Selfishness."
haha. the evil poor, yes its true, the evil poor are those who believe that they have a right to money. that their need is higher so they DESERVE the money. this is when they live off of the work of someone else. that is evil. to actually believe you deserve something you worked nothing for. this video sounds like it was made from one the looters that has his/her moral system completely out of order.
atlas shrugged is not "pro-having money". its pro-earning money. the guys who earn their money go on strike, and the ones who mooch off the earners crap themselves
Why has this never happened? Why have the "producers" never abandonded the "moochers", and made their way to the "gulch"? Why is it NEVER going to happen? Who is the "moocher" here? Who is the "producer"? Who exactly "produces" the railroad? And who "tells others" to do so? Which one of these is a "producer"? So, off you go then, have fun at the "gulch". Of course it will never happen, but at least you can expend some self righteous indignation in your delusion, and I get to laugh at you.
So the story needs to be about the proletariat rising up and conquering the producers of wealth and ending the tyranny of the clever ... using numbers for violence ("We know where you live!") against those who use creative thought for progress. And when the monkey-see-monkey-do crowd is in charge and have no leaders to follow or imitate, they establish a benign society free of greed, doling out the remains of the assets confiscated, then set about to make more and newer, but without any pattern.
@chase69. Show me ANYONE of your "cleaver, producers of wealth" or anyone else on Earth that was born into the world that brought land, food, water, air shelter, or any other material assets with them from out of their mother's crotch?
Everyone is entitled to have what was on Earth to live that was here b4 they were born. No matter how you rationalize it, in order for ANYONE to get what they have, they had to in someway, shape or form, take from sombody else.
Food and shelter do not produce themselves. These exemplify the simplest PRODUCED "wealth."
Humans without reason and technology cannot compete with animals. Humanity must think, and thought is not done collectively. A committee did not cure polio, or perfect steel, invent heavier-than-air, flight, etc.
Producers took the resources of the world and refined them to be increasingly useful.
Thinkers and producers carry you, redn40. If they didn't, your stupidity would have killed you by now.

@chase69, I asked you a simple question. you give me name calling word soup. Show me ANYONE of your "clever producers of wealth" or anyone else on Earth that was Born into the world that brought land, food, water air, shelter or ANY other material assets with them here??
If humans cant compete with animals without reason and tech, and it is a fact babies cannot think or defend for themselves until years later and cannot survive on their own where did the knowlege and protection come from ?
Sorry you found my answer unintelligible, redn40. Well, except for the name-calling. You picked up on that quickly enough.
To be fair, post-modern education and mainstream media have failed you. It's not your fault that you weren't taught many of the principles discussed in this book and in these comments. It is, however, troublesome that, when presented with opposing ideas and evidence, you don't grasp them. I'll chalk it up to bad education again. Critical thinking IS under taught.
To the asshole who made this video: if you intend to be taken seriously in the least, try to at least spell the character's name properly. You obviously haven't read or understood the fucking book. You truly are an idiot.
Wow, where to start? First, just a small correction: It is going Galt not Gault. Second they did not stage a strike against the poor, but rather a strike despite the poor. They left the chains of slavery the society wanted to place on them. I am an explicit advocate of this philosophy in general and specifically I have talked to several in the medical profession about this very thing assuming the Slave Medicine is passed.
You obviously haven't read the book. Proof of this is your use of "Gault," when in fact it is "Galt." How can you preach against a book you haven't even read? The other comments outline your misunderstanding of the novel's concepts, which are clearly defined within its pages.
I believe Rand made a distinction between people who "made" money and thoses who looted it. She wasn't blindly for the rich. That is a characterization. The Francisco money "rant" should clarrify that for you.
I don't have anything against the working class, it's the freeloaders who don't work that I can't stand
Republican freeloader relys on his mommy and daddys money eventually getting a good job due to Nepotism one day mommy and daddy die and he's in control of the company, taking most the profit from the working class people.
Democratic freeloader relys on the Gov't to pay all their bills taking from the working class people
This is an excellent point. Though I think the Republican freeloader is less guilty, because to some degree he has a right to what his family has earned, whereas the Democratic freeloader takes his money from the govt., which takes it's money from you and I against our will. But, both are vultures just looking for to pick through other people's work.
Now normally I don't reply to any Youtube videos...
...but this is complete bullshit. I'm not sure what's more funny - your plentiful, egregious spelling/grammar mistakes (you will find it's Galt, not Gault, should you ever choose to read the book you're criticizing), or the usage of images from 'V for Vendetta', which is a movie about vigilantes revolting against a socialist, media-in-partnership-with-government society. Open your eyes, buddy.
Rand is probably the only person of her time who could accurately predict what would happen today: the loss of our lifelines because of the looting of the rich by the parasitic "needy" who cannot work for themselves.
A horrible video. I recommend that you actually read the book before posting such a vile slag heap of falsities again
Hey, buddy: We're all "needy" at some time in our lives. Even the super-richest guy in the world will need someone to change his Depends and wheel him around in a chair if he gets old and feeble enough, just like the poor elderly on Social Security & Medicare. Rand discovered that her own philosophy was useless in dealing with the pain and disability her lung cancer caused..
xboxnut137 specified the "parasitic" needy. That's the distinction too many people miss.
People who are temporarily needy find help from productive people. There are people who choose need through laziness or philosophical perversion, and they leech off of the producers for a free ride.
Everything the "rich"have they took from others. Wall Street Bankers, Maddoff, "sir" charles, all own NOTHING as they just preyed on gullible humans with a sales pitch. WHEN the shit hits the fan, the rich will be easy targets for those that need rather than want.
If you had actually read the book, you would realize that a society based on "need" will quickly crumble.
Rand also makes a clear line between wealth and looting. If you have earned your wealth through honest means (think Bill Gates) then you are fine. If you loot (think Madoff) then you are not. By "needy" thinking, the needy are not necessary to live in a society and will therefore be uncared for (which I think is a good thing).
it is the rich who produce the things that they will need. so after the looting of the rich is over there will be nothing left to steal since most dont know how to produce.
Oh, and I actually watched the video for the first time instead of just the title. LOL, liked seeing the constitution and all the V-Masks that both symbolize antagonists against big government taking over everything. Hmm, seems like the main theme of Atlas Shrugged. What a little little confused youtube video this is methinks.
Jealousy is what will be the the downfall of everything actually. Your remark is insightful to me for about 20 seconds and then everything starts to set in That Quickly. Everyone votes wanting more... and who can blame them? I'll admit I did... felt like I needed a fairer shake and what-not. But opportunity should not be granted to all... just the ones who actually want it. That is a stance that takes a lot of truth to one's self to accept.
They're evil because they refuse to help themselves. The good produce almost everything in this society including the wages on a good number of working man. Outside of the Air Force, the government doesn't come up with new advancements like computers, medicine, transportation (ugh, soon they'll have GM though) ect. The business owners provide many more jobs for the people than the government does.... what is so evil about all this I ask?
Obviously the person who made this video does not understand Ayn Rand or Objectivism and probably has not even read Atlas Shrugged. His (or her) loss.
The point is that there are people who work to earn what they deserve (The Producers)...and the assholes who loot them through a broken system. Because Rearden was in a business, he could not be displayed as successful without being rich. Contrast this with Roark. The poor are not evil...Taggart was not poor. And "evil" is too strong a word. He was...pathetic. Try reading Fountainhead instead.

You have a point about bankers and Madoff. But they are not praised by Ayn Rand, she opposes their vast powers (given to them by the government).

The people she praises are industry leaders, entrepreneurs and inventors.
She strongly opposes government bearcats and lobbyists.
