  • Recently discovered this band and I already love them to death, glad they r re releasing this monstrous masterpiece parallel to this years long-overdue release. I've shown this band to almost ALL my metal friends and their reactions are no better then "Meh..." so I say fuck them, fuck them right in the ear! Because you guys reading this shit know what i'm fucking saying here saying how good these guys are

  • why you talking shit ._. just ENJOY THE FUCKING MUSIC !

  • This album has been stealing my soul.

  • 3:13 sounds so groovy in a tech death way! haha awesome

  • @sergiolopez3349 Yep. It's Tech Death Groove Funk Metal.

  • I just learnt this song on bass... I feel like I'm going to faint or something.

  • Call me crazy, but does anyone else think the first riff (that's later repeated) sounds like a blues shuffle on DMT? Then there's the part with the funky drum beat. Not to mention that they're far, far above most other metal bands harmonically. But no, BTBAM get far more attention, and they're not even metal. Why is this band so underrated? I don't even listen to a whole lot of metal anymore, but Gorguts are certainly a favorite.

  • @HolyKatana

Gorguts aren't underrated in the slightest. They are hugely respected in the metal community and they're albums have extremely good ratings on metal-archives. The reason bands BtBaM are more popular than Gorguts, is that while they are extremely technical, they are far eaiser to listen to than this. Not everyone wants discordant, seemingly random riffs over strange time sigantures with muddy production.

  • @ChainsawVsGod absolutely not.check out some interviews of luc lemay.Gorguts had a lot of bad luck since the beginning.First they didn't get the record label for Obscura (whch was finished back in 1994!)Then their drummer quits the band.I am not quite sure but their first tour was in America only or something like that...

  • @IMBACHABRI

What does that have do with anything I said?

  • @ChainsawVsGod that certainly made them less popular.

  • @IMBACHABRI I thought their drummer killed himself. Though that would qualify as 'qutting the band' in a sense...

  • @andromidius that was Steve MacDonald (from wisdom to hate album)He commited suicide in 2002.

  • @andromidius

I'm not sure if that was intended to be humorous but I laughed pretty hard at the way you explained that lol.

  • @HolyKatana Sorry to break it to you, but BTBAM are metal whether you like them or not.

  • @soranaru I consider them to be prog metalcore. They've been moving away from the metalcore aspects of their music since Colors, but I still feel that they're best categorized as that, along with similar (and, IMHO, better) bands like The Human Abstract and Protest the Hero. I also made that comment several months ago, back when a forum I'm on (*coughcoughUGcoughcough*) was going through a BTBAM fellation period, and I was getting sick of it. I'm actually not a metal elitist or anything, (cont.)

  • @soranaru (cont.) since I really enjoy a lot of stuff metal elitists would scoff at. Metal is a comparatively small genre in the stuff I listen to, although I've recently (last couple of months) gotten into sludge metal and post-metal in a big way. And I enjoy a lot of punk and punk-derived music as well (post-punk and goth, No Wave, hardcore, noise rock, crust punk, older and/or non-shitty post-hardcore and emo). Metalcore isn't inherently bad; it's just not metal. (cont.)

  • @soranaru Metalcore is a fusion genre, and thus doesn't really properly belong in either metal or hardcore, although they tend to lean one way or the other. And while I don't like BTBAM, I will concede that they're obviously very technically skilled musicians, but that aspect is really hyped. There are a ton of young and virtuosic musicians. Shawn Lane could play circles around them at 17, when he stopped honing his technique any further. And he was in constant pain from psoriatic arthritis.

  • wtf!! i wana buy this album but the only place i found it is amazon used for 80 bucks..

and excuse my name i was young and stupid when i made my account

  • @metalcorefan93

    80 bucks?

    this album is worth it.

  • @metalcorefan93 It was on ebay for 14$ but that didn't last very long

  • sounds like his last breath.the death rattle.

  • This album is leagues beyond Necrophagist in terms of technicality. Playing simple arpeggios and scales at high speeds is relatively simple for even an intermediate-skilled musician.

It's taken me years to try and get my head around that bassline and I still don't really get it. Fucking love Luc Lemay. Brilliant songwriter and immensely talented guitarist.

  • @Cipherix

In absolutely no way are Necorphagist songs simple. In no way at all. Necorphagist also have fucking loads of time signature changes.

  • That is amazing

  • drummer sucks, don't hit it with anger just feel it okey??? and i think that death metal needs more talented musicians than this, more technical, if you want to play technical death metal you must have techinally fucking members, Necrophagist has Muhammed Suiçmez, Nile has Karl Sanders and George Kollias, Death had Chuck Schuldiner and Richard Christy, fuck, this band is not famous and excellent because they don't have TALENT!!!

  • @TheTwilightIsMyRobe Gorguts is quite famous and respected. You must just be getting into death metal. Also, as far as talent goes, Luc Lemay's violin sonata and flute concertos (available on Myspace) attest to his extensive classical training. I think the influence of 20th Century composers is present in them as well as in Gorguts' music (check out 'Clouded' off the Obscura record). I just really think you don't get this. Of course, it could well be said that I just don't get Necrophagist.

  • @DemilichFan i don't think that gorguts is a famous band, if gorguts was a famous band i would see more viewers on this video, at least 100,000. i don't know if they are talented but other technical metal band are way more talented. for example muhammed suicmez. search him at youtube and watch his videos. i don't know luc lemay sorry. he can be talented, ok but he doesnt show us his talents, i mean try to play fast riffs and good solos. sorry for bad english :) but they are good composers :)

  • @TheTwilightIsMyRobe I don't see why famous matters, but I promise you that Gorguts is very well respected and well known to all fans of the DM. Perhaps Necrophagist has more cross-genre appeal, but that is because they play a populist style. The guitarist you mentioned is simply a fast player. I do not find him all that interesting, nor do I think Necrophagist's music is composed with half as much depth and feeling as Gorguts'. They bore the living shit out of me, truly.

  • @DemilichFan isn't this special

    youtube.com/watch?v=2H76LUCBIUg,

man this is one of the best solos i've ever seen...

  • @TheTwilightIsMyRobe Man, sarcasm is fantastic. haha

Each to his own, but muhammed suicmez is hardly unique in what he does. Sweeping does not predicate technicality, in any case.

  • @ridah223 but fermented offal discharges solo is one of the best solos, i dont like necrophagist much check out theory in practice or decapitated they are far better from gorguts i think but i can be wrong because i didn't listen to this album much... i m not a technical death metal fan i ilke opeth, camel stuff...

  • @TheTwilightIsMyRobe As far as I'm concerned, a musician could have all the talent in the world, but talent means nothing when it comes to songwriting. This is one of my favorite death metal albums not because I'm supposed to be blown away by their skills, but because they put together some of the best and most unique death metal MUSIC I've heard.

  • this is pretty much the only death metal i listen to and i love it, mainly because the guitar isnt just a detuned deformity, there are dynamics to it, and that there is also great restraint in the playing,. any other death metal bands that kind of have this jarring beauty and monstrous ugliness?

  • @findingphunc Gorguts is pretty much in a class of their own, but if you long for well-composed but grotesquely strange death metal - and by that I do NOT mean Necrophagist, who are great musicians that have devoted themselves to boring music - I strongly suggest you check out: Acerbus, Algophobia, Atrocity (early), Carbonized, Creepmime, Demilich, Disaffected, Gigantic Brain, Into Oblivion, Kralizec, Lykathea Aflame, Natron, Obliveon, Oppressor, Sentenced, !T.O.O.H.!, Torchure, Transgressor,

  • @DemilichFan Unholy (probably the most grotesque and off-putting of any of the bands I've listed), Wicked Innocence, and Wormed.

  • @DemilichFan GREAT list, thanks (though I absolutely love necrophagist too). any list with GIGANTIC BRAIN is awesome!

  • This is how all death metal should sound. Intelligent yet very groovy riffs, powerful drum lines and vocals... just so awesome.

Btw, originality matters! I'm tired of listening to bands that sound the same. There are just too many devourment and cannibal corpse clones out there, they all sound just so generic and unoriginal that I think death metal will slowly stagnate over time.

  • Best bassists in tech are this guy and the bassist from Viraemia.

  • @Moby104105 Too bad Viraemia is just wanky shit

  • @Winnsock Yeah it's pretty much 100% sweep picking. Their bassist is great though.

  • @Winnsock Nah uh, Viraemia are great.

  • Gorguts are music genius

  • OMFG

    After 3:14 Oo

  • let's try that again with more anger.

  • Awesome song off of one brutally & brilliantly crazy cd. Thanks.

  • immortality

  • Great song, so haunting ...

It's a shame that this album is so hard to find ...

  • LUC LEMAY SELLS HIS OWN MERCH!

  • this is real death metal

  • Comment removed

  • this song is almost like a jam

  • dat groove

  • @subhumanmaster Stay with it, my man. This album was hard to get into for me as well but trust me it's worth it. Just embrace the craziness.

  • i luv it

  • This song brings to mind wading through a sewer no offense. I'd love to get into this band but the songs are too abstract for me to enjoy right now but it's very cool what these guys do

  • Pretty messmerizing riffery!

  • seeing these mother fuckers soon NYC!!!

  • @MrNovastyle I'd be surprised since they split-up in 2005

  • @Setsuburo haventh you heard they are back together again?

  • They got back together recently.

  • This song is pretty damn good! Im not the biggest Gorguts fan.

  • Man... this brings back some memories. Such a powerful voice and he knows how to use it... his screams are filled with pain and anguish... so much emotion. Fuck yeah man... Gorguts is not human. They have to be aliens. This is just too fucking good. I refuse to believe that humans can come up with something so artful.

  • aaah..gorguts, so underrated...

  • @MrBrutalSounds i don't know about that. gorguts is pretty much recognized as being genius by anyone that cares about metal.

  • @MrBrutalSounds They get a headlining spot in Maryland on the fri night, i think possessed or d.r.i. should get it imo

  • Second favorite song of the album.

  • whats your first?

  • La Vie Est Prelude

  • sloppy gore, i love it

  • mi first time listening to this album actually gave me a headache, now I am getting a the point of enjoyment :D

  • lol this whole page is immature comments

    anyway gorguts rules great song

  • Pretty much man.

  • Love that opening bassline

  • My favorite song off the album! It kicks so much ass!

  • This definetly gets my vote for most brutal and heavy music made.

  • oh that riff.... 4:32 do NOT dispute it's graceful beauty

  • I love this song!

  • Ah, what a dark vibe this record has. I remember, this material was actually written in like '94 but labels would not pick it up because it was so avant garde.

  • Why the fuck are you guys talking about the purges in the USSR in a GORGUTS video???

  • Jesus christ, this band has created the most sinister sounding music ever. I love it!

  • Never heard of these guys before. I think they are A-OK

  • What is it on the cover of this album? I can't seem to make it out...

  • it looks like some old guy sitting indian style

  • Yeah, almost like at 3:40 right? After a while, I started thinking that it was a Viking...

  • i think it photo of man meditatin(sorry for bad english)

  • One of the greatest metal bands to have graced our age. This album is beautiful.

  • That album is so fuckin' dark!

  • besides everything Gorguts is awesome :)

    <3

  • Canada should be proud of their finest sons

  • Best song by Gorguts!!!!

  • OMG THIS IS FUCKING INCREDIBLE

  • My favourite writer is russian. Dostoevsky was a genius, as was Pushkin, Gogol, Tolstoy, Gorky. Hell, most of my favourite artists are russian, Tarkovsky, Eisenstein (poor, poor Eisenstein, had to work under Stalin), Sokurov, Rublev (because of Tarkovsky), etc... They are all amazing. Go Russia! Go Gorguts!

  • Ummm... no. Maybe you can make an argument for Lenin, but defending Stalin is defending Hitler, it's defending Bin Laden, it's defending a ruthless murderer that killed 20 million people simply for falling out of favour with him. Eisenstein was in constant fear of being killed if Stalin found a single thing he disagreed with in his films. If you believe in communism a an economic theory that's fine, but don't try to justify it by saying proven fact is propaganda.

  • i'm not a communist or whoever. I just live in Russia, I'm Russian and I dont like that "new" trend about "shitting" upon the man who played the main role in stopping German fascists. his politic line came according the political and social situation of that time. if we talk about political repressions (it's about enemies of the state, no matter they died or not), the number of victims is about 4 million people. 1.4 million of them died.

  • The purges and the Ukraine famine bring Stalin's total killed to about 23 million people. That's almost one million people a year during his reign. It wasn't about enemies of the state, it was about people Stalin didn't like. If you were not in favour with him he sent you to be killed, or to Siberia. I agree with you about his fending off the Nazi's, but it doesn't mitigate what he did to his people afterward. There is no true justification for his mass murder.

  • lol

man, do you believe everything you see on TV or read in main stream newspapers??

that famine took place not only in Ukraine, in Russia too and in other regions of USSR. that was not a genocide, that famine was the result of food crisis. and Yushenko and his thief-team is trying to speculate on this now in order to make Ukrainians hate Russians in spite of the fact that we are kinda brothers. it's just a political manipulation.

excuse me, but you are mistaken.

  • total number of victims (imprisoned by any reason) during period since 1921 to 1953 is about 20-30 million ppl. do you know that about 1-1.5 million people are repressed in the USA every year? i'm not trying to say that Stalin was good or bad - it's not about politics. but I think he wasnt so terroristic as it says in mass media.

well, yeah, some Russian writers might be repressed or something. but dissidents are NOT welcome in any country.

  • I don't watch TV, nor do I read "mainstream" newspapers. The numbers I'm quoting are established historical fact. You'd need some damning evidence to prove that Stalin isn't the murderer he's been portrayed, otherwise you're the same as a Holocaust denier. I'd recommend finding a video/article of someone who actually escaped Stalin's purges, and then tell me he's a great man. None of this has anything to do with Gorguts, though.

  • "The numbers I'm quoting are established historical fact"

historical fact thats "proven" by pseudodemocratic slaves of USA government rats who pay to those slaves so that they show people how terrible and bad Russia was during XX century. antirussian brainwash.

  • That's what I'm talking about. If I were debating a Holocaust denier he would just replace, "...pseudodemocratic slaves of USA government rats..." with the Zionist controlled media, and Government. You don't have actual evidence for the things you're saying so, you just say I'm brainwashed. It's a cop-out. When you actual have evidence that the entire western world conspired to make Stalin a brutal dictator instead of the glorious leader he claimed to be then talk to me, until then this is over.

  • lol.. there are many journalists writing antiauthority and antisoviet articles here in Russia. same is abroad. some of them get "fighting for freedom" awards from USA government (like Latynina after Rus-Georgian conflict). Yushenko's family has American passports, same about Saakashvili. i'm not shouting about evil Jews ruling the world and all haha. i just talk about obvious things. there is a lot of lies about USSR but soviet people are still alive so it's easy to learn how it was in deed

  • Theres no such thing as Soviet people my friend. The Soviet union is over ...let it go.

  • Fuck blast beats, this is perfect.

  • It was Considered Dead and The Erosion of Sanity that originally captivated me, but Obscura just blew me the fuck away when I first heard it, especially on "Nostalgia".

  • you guys sound like tool fans....

"if you don't like it it's because your simple mind wouldn't understand!!!!!"

lol, still, fucking awesome song, cheers for posting bro! Obscura is seriously underplayed, just wish tech fans weren't such arrogant elitists

  • Lemays vocals are so earthy and shrilling!! I love it!

  • 1:05 - 1:25 - so fucking beautiful !

    i love this song

    Nostalgiiiiaaaaaaa !!!

  • easily one of the most underrated death metal bands of all time

  • @Damien333 You would be surprised... dead jesus, augury, omega crom, the black, Decameron, Trident there are lots...

  • If you put Obscura up with None So Vile it would hold its ground with little to no effort.

Easily one of the best technical/brutal death metal albums ever made, and influential to pretty much every generic band in the genre trying to mimic it to this day.

  • none so vile is my favorite death metal album ever, but obscura transcends the genre, might even be my favorite metal album period.

  • i wouldn't compare this to none so vile, there technical in different ways. vile was more about incredible speed fused with brutality, obscura and from wisdom to hate are more groovy and drawn out, focusing on the nuances and progressions. both undeniably some of the greatest metal to grace my ears.

  • The guitarwork in Obscura is WAY more technical than None So Vile..

  • I agree. However both albums are Death Metal masterpeices.

  • Fuckin Killer song and Fuckin Killer album Obscura.

  • 2:45 - a 'breakdown' which takes the piss out of every metalcore band ever, simply because it isn't necessarily the focal point of the song. It fits so smoothly that it's actually a surprise when it occurs, and not just cut-and-paste like so many other half-assed songs by many other bands.

  • EXACTLY!!!!

    YES!!! lol

  • couldnt have said it better myself

  • @shitsucks08

Well that's because Gorguts are true old school death metal, and metalcore bands are..well..metalcore.

And we all know that metalcore actually means shitcore.

  • @jwboyd85652 Damn right it's shitcore!

  • @jwboyd85652 then whats deathcore?

  • @miniradman Shittiercore?

  • Best death metal album or best album of all time?

  • Best Death Metal album.

  • If you like dethklock you are definatly a moron

  • oh no a typo, I'm not even going to point out the irony.

  • Don't talk about spelling.. It's Dethklok not Dethklock... But hey.. I like 'em too.. Not the music but the series.. "I cans only plays metal" \m/

  • Lol, when i was doing rehearsals for jazz band at my school, they gave all of the guitarists a peice of jazz music. and we were all like "Umm... we cant read this."

  • if you don't like dethklok, but listen to metal, you obviously don't know how to laugh at yourself.

  • if you are russian, but don't like Stalin, you obviously don't know how to laugh at yourself

  • HAHAHAAH

  • I dont like dethklok because the music isnt my style, but i can still watch the show and laugh at it.

  • Dethklok as a death metal band is kinda poppy

  • No i dont like Dethklok because well, its not really as good as Death metal, its like Generic type of death metal, not very original.

  • That's pretty much what I meant.

A pretty watered down stereotypical sort of death

  • Oh, well, i didnt understand.

  • Majestic.

  • Holy fuck what is happening to my brain?! this is some amazing music

  • Welcome to the Gorguts world. You will hear the most underrated band in Death Metal and also, The most underrated musician in death metal.

  • i love this fucking song!

  • This song is one of the best from the 'Obscura' album.

I second Billo! My fav album, too!

  • You can say this for every song on Obscura, thats how awesome it is!

  • yea, i said one of the best. ;P

  • I like sweet silence the best aye, but fuck me this song got me into gorguts.

  • THANK YOU. Fuck I was was waiting so long for someone to upload more songs off this album, thanks for sharing this gem!

  • Love how insane Steeve Hurdles vocals are on this. The dual vocal attack on this album elevates it so much.

WHY CAN'T PEOPLE WRITE MUSIC LIKE THIS ANYMORE...

    My favourite album... \m/,\m/

  • Because people suck ass, it used to be about the music... no longer... BUT!!!! Negativa is here man.

  • nice!
