Van Hammer was the first of three WCW attempts at their own version of the Ultimate Warrior, in this case UW as a heavy metal guitarist- who couldn't actually play. In early 1994, they came up with "Jungle" Jim Steele, who was UW crossed with Tarzan. Their final attempt was the Renegade in 1995, an out-and-out attempt at cloning UW. UW himself arrived in WCW in 1998 and ALSO flopped.

Mark "Van Hammer" Hildreth is actually from Hebron, MD.

This needless to say was the end of Taylor's usefulness in WCW. He did get a U.S. tag team title run with Greg Valentine, but that wasn't much.

WCW was trying to take advantage of the Warrior firing in WWF by putting this guy in and trying to make people believe Warrior had defected to WCW. They gave him a Warrior-like moveset and had him shaking the ropes to draw people in. Watch some of his later matches when people realized it wasn't Jim Hellwig. DEAD.....SILENCE.
