  • I can listen to it for hours ........

  • OMG

  • how can you slap on a guitar? NO WAY! Just so impressive

  • andy mckee tunes by ear like a boss.

  • liked it and completely skilled but how did i get from metalcore to this :L

  • his music is some of the best to relax/study to.

  • ... 0__0 I wish I had 0.001 percent of his talent!!

  • I still like don's version better even tho this is great

  • @djos3 Standard tuning but in B (baritone tuning). Although in this clip I think Andy's playing it a bit higher. I like to play it in around C (lowest my guitar will go without it sounding crap really.) Great clip anyway, Andy really adds a lot of character to the tune.

  • boy do i wish i practiced intense finger picking more than 0% growing up as a kid lol

  • what tuning is this?

  • @djos3 if im not mistaken this version is in Drop B Standard

  • @djos3 hey man the tuning is Eb

  • tabs are going inside his eyes cool !

  • EYES CLOSED

  • Engages awesome mode at 1:07

  • How was that funny ? :S

  • David Soltany made the best cover, i think

  • whoa, standard guitar instead of baritone? awesome

  • i think its awesome that he and don ross are now good friends....mr. ross knew andy was amazing when he first heard him im sure

  • Amazing!!!!!!!!!! love the bit at 4.03...what a telent this guy is!!!!

  • how old is andy?

this is rediculously fast, even for him.

  • @ZacVrono .....wierd comment ...im sure he can play it faster.

  • @ZacVrono not as fast as Don Ross version

  • best guitarist in the world i ever seen !

(Btw , do u people know what guitar he playing in this video?)

  • this is so much more difficult to do than someone who can't play guitar can possibly imagine.

Just look at the tab for this song... pretty simple... can i play it... no..

  • @ComfortabIyNumb practice enogh and youll get it...but o

    nly if you play guitar

  • Great!!!!!!!

  • you are amazing

  • So much going on with his hands, and his face is completely cool =p

  • This version cuts like a knife compared to other versions of andy. It really hits.

    More contrast in rythm.

    And additional bass arpeggios.

    Yeehaw...

  • @johnnyb713456

Dude learn english or something, and no Andy is not a pirate, wich would be kick ass though : D

  • one time i seen this thing and that guy were a pirate on a ship and he resuce a princess and she burn a castle nursing home with a pallet of taco sauce

  • @johnnyb713456 you just blew my mind holy shit

  • cool and amazing

  • mama that's funky!!

  • Makes me want to pick up my guitar and get better.

  • Gee - it makes me want to throw my guitar out the window!!

  • I bought some of his guitar tab and it is really difficult to play.

  • wow

  • i wish i had 1% of his talent...

  • I feel the same way

  • @Exploratorius12

    Stop wishing and practice.

  • @KurtSandford DAMN RIGHT!

  • @Exploratorius12 I hear ya, especially since 1% of his talent still equates to being more innovative and original than 90% of other guitarists out there.

  • this is no baritone. he plays his baritone songs a normal guitar in standard because baritone is a perfect fourth lower than standard

  • Wow I've never heard him talk before... all of his music is intsrumental so he never talks... kind of cool.

  • Yup, definitely a legend.

  • Splendid performance

  • Great video(s) good to see some of andys true quality alive on the screen...instead of a muffled 90's style video camera ;)

  • AHHHHH I'm mesmerized by his intensive playing! :)

  • Man his technique makes me smile even more than the live CandyRat session video.

I think he even added a bit more to the percussion :o

  • agree with berstklumpen...

  • his best version on youtube:)

  • But....can he do it on a 12 string!!!!

  • no, that's not a baritone guitar, the tuning in this video is D# A F# C# G# D# (only 1 step down from the standart tuning EADGBE) so you can play it with a normal acoustic guitar...

  • Would it actually be D# G# C# F# A D# since a would be tuned down at one step below?

  • If it's D#AF#C#G#D#, then it's not even in the same pattern as standard baritone tuning or standard tuning. Maybe you meant D#G#C#F#A#D#, but even then that's a HALF step down.

  • I think your right cause A is a whole step above G. Correct? D is a whole step above C.

I think your hypothesis is correct>:)

  • It's actually just a standard tuning. It's just tuned a few frets down, if you know what i mean.

  • Comment removed

  • It's a baritone guitar, standard tuning. So BEADF#B

  • Not in this particular performance, I'm afraid. If you watch his performance of Drifting (first video in Related Videos section), he plays that in D#A#D#G#A#D#, a half step above the original tuning DADGAD and he uses the same guitar as in this video.

  • Seeing as how BEADF#B is considerably lower than D#A#D#G#A#D#, the gauge of the string would cause immense tension and snap many if not all of the strings if Andy tuned a baritone all the way up to said tuning. This means that he can't be using a baritone guitar in this video, and the suspected D#G#C#F#A#D# for this video is much closer. Read my other comment explaining baritone standard, standard, and the tuning in this video

  • word. its just a half step down from standard.

in his other youtube, howvever, he does use a baritone.

  • in this video he's not playing with a baritone, the tuning is just a half step down from standard tuning.

  • is that standard tunning?

  • I think so. But I can't tell you 100% -.-

  • baritone.

but can also do it on standard tuning (just higher)

  • he's in the mood yo XD.

    very nice video .

  • please .. i need some help what is that thing that is put on the hole of the guitar ... i really don't konw :(( i wanna buy one

  • dude...its an acoustic guitar pick-up...thats it

  • thank's a lot i was thinking that is something to help them when drifing ...

  • Excellent live video of Andy! Thanks for posting! -Derek

  • I stay in Shetland. I wanted to go see him play at the Folk Festival but never got round to gettin tickets..

  • Is it just me or has he got ever better lately? =/

  • yes I think so too, especially with this song it shows!

  • FUCK man, i would KILL to see one of his shows. this man is like no other O.o he's my idol sionce he first appered on youtube ^^ peace

  • I used to watch his shows every weekend here in Topeka, KS (his home town) I also used to buy my strings at Steam music (his old job where he sold & taught) and even played in the same wedding as he did, and got to talk to him a bit.

And above all he's a really nice guy!

  • u had the chance to meet him personnaly... dude, u r one lucky man i tell you ^^ i would love to meet Andy. he really looks like a nice guy, and if u say he is, i have no reason to doubt it ^^ thnaks to Andy, i'm a better guitarist now =D peace

  • I've never seen so many alternate tunings, he changes his tunings by ear in concert. Even after playing for 15 years I never got anywhere near as good as this world class guitarist.

He used to practice every day, and listen to Don Ross for inspiration, now he gets to play with him, and is on the same record label, and again: it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

  • he's amazing and that's that ^^ he must be so happy. he's playing side by side with a guy he admires the most and that inspires him. i think he is fulfilled ^^ and yeah, trully awesome that he can tune the guitar by ear in the middle of his concerts. he has a gift and thank god he shares it with us all =D peace

  • love the live version but prefer it on the baritone guitar, just adds that bit more depth, but then it's another guitar to take on tour...

  • Great close up on his face... playing with eyes closed, spectacular.

  • I need this left hand!!!! aua :D ROXXXX

  • no my friend, is the RIGHT hand that you want :P. left is just practice ^^

  • and i thought tommy emmanuel was good, though i have to say tommy and andy are equally talented but andy mckee brings in new innovative guitar techniques into his guitar playing rather than the usual chet atkins fingerstyle

  • yeh pretty much true... they all says "I'm a fingerstyle guitar player" but in technique and melody they are different... I love all two, Tommy and Andy they are seriously awesome guitarists ;)

  • well to be honest I think Tommy is way better than Andy. Don't get me wrong, Andy is awesome, there are no words, but Tommy is a certified guitar player, Atkins called him the best fingerstyle guitarist living at this moment and I agree with that :)

  • well, I guess I can sort of respect your opinion...but I think you're wrong...

  • I think that Tommy is technically better as far as motor skills go. If even just slightly. But Andy Mckee crafts songs from his imagine that not only takes on a journey, but does so with complex emotion. The perfect music man would a two-headed ogre made up of the two of them.

  • Andy's more into the groove and such, but Tommy's more unto the molody types of music.

it's too differents styles :no need to try comparing the two fellows.

But I gotta admit something, even in this video Andy made a few mistakes but there is something that you NEVER see: Tommy making mistakes in his concerts!! Tommy I think might be compared to other guitarists at this point of who playes ANY style perfectly and who doesn't.

    Anyway, take care dude.

  • What can I say, you speak the truth. And of course there's no comparing, with their unique styles and all, and both are amazing inspirations. You are right about the mistakes thing, but I think this is also for a huge part because Tommy basically improves half of what he plays based on common riffs, it's much easier to drop the ball there than at a piece you play basically the same each time you perform.

  • oh yea, that's right!!

I forgot about the impro part!!

Yea it's a lot easier to say of someone who iprovises each time that he has no mistakes in his playing than it is for already composed songs.

    Take care bro.

  • Wow! I love this! Can't believe I just missed one of his shows in Liverpool! The tickets sold out so fast!

    Cheers for posting this.

  • whoa he got skinny

  • Tired as he is, he still plays better than me after warming up!

  • amazing man thanks for posting this :)

  • nice sound quality, his lefthand-technique is even more better then his first youtube post! :)
