Wow. Forgot all about this track. I'm 50. I wore this groove out when it came out. This whole album I found fascinating. Use to listen to it alone, headphones, in my room. Musta been 13/14 or so. Living in Germany. Didn't have any friends into funk/Kool. Lookin at all these comments regarding this album makes me feel like cryin. I had no idea others were similarly moved. The internet is amazing. (A blessing AND a curse). Oh,well. Peace to all.
@paulph12002 This album was one of my favorites in college, I wore it out. All the songs are so good, the title cut my favorite. Bought this on CD a few years ago and loved it all over again. When "Celebration" came out, the radio stations played it to death, so much so that I cannot listen to it if it comes on the radio now. Agree this is better than their later commercial songs. Out of those I do like "Fresh" because you hardly ever hear it and have always liked "Ladies Night."
@BridgetR72 I was still in my teens - 15 years old, to be exact. Anyhow, they had a jazz/funk style that we appreciated back then. I really wish that groups would return to including instrumentals in their repertoires, like Kool & the Gang, EWF. We would pay to see these bands perform the non-vocals as much as we would pay to hear the vocals. What has happened over the years?
This album signaled a turning point in Kool and the Gangs "concsiousness." Their new found spirituality. I bought it as soon as they released it and it rates...for me... as their best! Here is a suggestion go crate diggin for this album "Light of Worlds" I promise you there are many great tunes that are sample worthy . Oh and they stand up by themselves also. I'm just sayin'
I consider Pete Rock to be one of the best hip hop producers to ever bless a track, but it seems Im gonna have to start paying homage to the originators and true creators.Pete is STILL one of my favorite behind J Dilla, but all he did here was recognize fire and hit the record button. Respect due

@baldboy1da1 , Word! Pete Rock...damn..he hooked this joint up son, but the original is still my favorite. Speaking of Pete Rock did you know that Guru would have been fifty this July? I love the music I've grown up listening to. I've been a fan of Rap & Hip Hop since it's inception and House, Free Style, Funk, Jazz. I remember listening to this joint when I was a teenager back in Philly in the 70's and I was lost for words. This song and "Whisper Softly" are two of my favorites.
im 21 my dad made me listen to these records at the age of 10 and 11 now i realize why this is one of the most well put together albums of all time in my opinion
anybody who says hip Hop sucks dont know what hip hop is. this groove right here is the loop of the groove for Rap. Much love to the Groove nation out there
this is one of the best albums of all time..I'm a legit music head im 21 years old heard this when i was 17 digging my dads records..summer madness is also on this album..honestly i have this in the top 10 albums of all time.
I remember when I was a little kid, back in the early 80's, that I put this album on my record player, and this song really stood out to me. Nearly 30 years later, it still sounds good, and the lyrics mean even more to me!!
@hotvision I know you are attempting to sound clever but that made no sense.I'm sure plenty of people were listening to Pete Rock and his production of others and never heard this until recently.I'm one of them. The beauty of sampling is it brings us to the actual songs by these groups/singers.
I used to pause/record the break back in '87. I've always thought this song was sad but tough. The music that is. Their vocals left something to be desired IMHO. JT made that happen. Can't beat the analog key board sound.
I used to have this album years ago, and I havent heard it till now. Thanx whoevers put this on. I used to love this. xxx

This song shows how they were capable of so much more than their later cheesy commercial songs like Celebrate, Cherish, Ladies Night, etc.
