I say they got a lot of inspiration for this album from Pink Floyd's very early albums, such as A Saucerful of Secrets, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Meddle and especially Ummagumma
ohhh yes. Got one (envy me now!). Go find one in local stores or order, even from abroad. (dude awsum totalleh [insert appropriate internet slang here ])Worth it.
Hello, I want that you know that only initiate my account in YouTube to leave this message, I really think that their songs are brilliant, I wait for soon visit Mexico, since the last time that walked here not knew them well and I did not attend the event.
Incredible. They continually push boundaries. That's the difference between real music and candy pop diddies. I don't feel comfortable listening to this song...but I don't want to. One of the best bands ever period. Thanks!
these guys are very successful, which kinda surprises me because they never sold out. Thier style is very out there. But people get it. I'm glad because we need bands like this. They are artists. Not top ten chart toppers.
I'd wonder if it's a matter of style or analysis on your part. It's an occasional revealed approach for the lips to take. By contrast to their soaring melodious selves, I love it when they slather their warped artistic view over a droning stoner grind.
"Play three times before listening," Sonic Boom. I reckon this applies to this. It sounds alright on my first hearing and I'm glad to hear the Flips are experimenting again. Stay true to yourselves, guys.
I like this song, but the production quality is bad (the itunes download is barely better). Their cover of Madonna's "Borderline" was th same way - wonderful cover song, but the quality of the recording was so poor (feedback, white noise, etc.) that I find it very hard to listen to. It sounds like it was recorded by an amateur in a basement. I'm sure this was intentional, but I can't fathom why.
Just saw the show at Redrocks last night! The new setup was out of this world and the new costumes that the roadies were wearing were wicked. The new songs are made to be played live. It was pretty amazing. Rivaled the UFO show @ the OKC ampitheater. The Lips are the greatest!!!!
Definitely agree, but they've been jacking can since 1990. "take me ta mars" off of "Priest Driven Ambulance" is a rather shameless rip off of that same track.
Anybody heard the full album stream on the Colbert site? The rest of the album definitely has Can influences throughout. Watching the Planets in particular has a very 'Mother Sky' bassline.
I always buy their latest album as soon as it's released because I always know they will satisfy. Each album is different but is always good, no matter how varied the styles. This song is kinda strange so I am very hopeful that they have expanded their boundaries even more. The Flaming Lips never let me down!

I reckon it sounds awesome, gives it a sort of wall-of-sound feel, really heavy and noisy.
If you haven't, check out the bands 'Neu!' and 'Can', in songs like this the influence is obvious.
Awesome song.

Is it just me or does it sound a bit like Can? When the drums kick in it reminds me of 'Mushrooms'.
See The Leaves is a bit like that too. Bit of a Krrautrock vibe.

I've got no objections to can influences! :P
Seems alot of bands are picking up on the whole krautrock sound lately.
This is a great new song, don't wanna listen to anything else at the risk of spoiling the album for me. I'll probably buy it later this year.
