Reminds me so much of what Little Rock's station KLRT, channel 16 used to be. In fact, even the graphics look similar to what KLRT used to show! Unfortunately, it too is now a Fox affiliate and nothing more. (sigh). I've got a few tapes of KLRT's movies, and I find it very sad that those tapes are all that I have left of this station. And I kick myself for erasing some of the others.
eyeh8cbs--thanks for the tip however I searched and searched and no animated KOVR bee ID anywhere to be found. Any other ideas as to where it could be found?
BTW, when did 13 move from ABC to CBS? Yeah, I've been gone THAT long.
I've got a few movies taped during October-November 1985 when they started broadcasting from the new "Monster Tower" in stereo, I'll try to put some of that stuff up as soon as I can find a replacement DVD recorder that doesn't suck!
I time-shifted a few Night Comfort Theater movies but only kept one of them which I now can't find the tape for, hopefully SOMEBODY has some more somewhere....
That is not Mark Thompson. At this time, Mark Thompson was the main weather guy at KRON-TV 4 in San Francisco. I believe this announcer also worked on-air at the old KRAK radio (now SportsTalk 1140). I don't remember his last name, either.
Interesting- I've never been into country music so never listened to KRAK, except for a few minutes when I was checking out a then-new AM stereo tuner (won't get into how criminally ignored AM stereo was). I'll always associate his voice with movies, can't imagine him announcing country music!
I never listened to KRAK either -- I only knew Jerry because I helped him record this stuff. I'm actually impressed that you posted these old movie opens and promos -- I was probably the guy in master control who was loading up the tapes and sending it out! I saved a lot of that stuff myself, but never posted it anywhere -- it's all in my personal collection. Surprised to see there's no Tom LaBrie stuff here ...
I would have been sad to work for KTXL and see it decline to what it is now. I recorded a number of movies from 1985-86 and left in all the commercials, I'd love to find some older stuff! I have some very brief commercial breaks from 1978 with fair reception from a tape I found at a thrift store, whoever taped those cut out some of the commercials but thankfully didn't get them all!
Sadly, it's the same for virtually all local stations -- the "local" aspect is gone. Five or six big corporations own everything, so as you travel from town-to-town, all the stations look the same, air the same programs, have the same announcer, etc.

13 and 10 swapped network affiliations in 1995.

Does anyone know why they switched?

Anyone know where I could find a copy/posting of the KOVR 13 Bee sign off/sign on animation?
A buddy of mine and I were talking about Sacramento (neither of us live there anymore) and staying up late to see the KOVR Bee go off the air.

Someone put that up a couple weeks ago, just search for KOVR!

Let me second the request- if anyone has some Night Comfort Theater bumpers or promos, post it! Tom LaBrie was the man!

Is that Mark Thompson doing the birds promo here

It's the same guy doing the voiceovers on both of these- anyone know his full name and what happened to him?
eyeh8cbs 4 years ago
His name is Jerry Chambers. Indeed he was a KRAK DJ, and did these voice-overs as freelance work. Not sure where is now though ...
