Hey man i have a question why is it that everytime i try to play a dvd a blue screen just comes up and i can hear the movie but the blue screen is just there?
THANK YOU. Really appreciate your time and effort to help others making a decision to choose before spend/invest in a new unit. I was really helpful.
hey, great review! i have a question for you though. If i do get the iPod cable, 1. how do i go about connecting it (where) and 2. can i also get that to come out through the glove compartment along with the USB cable?
The IPOD interface connects to the back of the unit and can reach the glove compartment. I think you cannot have the ipod cable and usb cable hooked up at the same time.
Great review. I have a question, does anyone know if this unit allows hook up to an external video system so I can watch one movie on this unit and my son watch a different movie in the back seat? All controlled from this head unit?
The USB connection is only in the BACK of the unit. There is no USB connection on the front of the unit. The unit comes with a USB cable extender which you can mount near the front of the unit if you wish. I have my USB cable going to my glove compartment box where I keep my USB hard drive
great review. I bought my deck about 2 weeks ago and I love it. I am having a problem with adding a background picture. When I go the the user interface> user background, the memory option is not highlighted. Do you have any ideas on how to make it work. I have tried putting the the jpg files on disc and thumb drive and it still does not give me to option for the memory.
Great Review! I just purchased the DNX-5120, however I am having issues with the interface. I am unable to find a firmware update like you said, can you please help me out?
I just bought this thing too and I saw they used the same set of outputs for rear channels and sub... how would you hook up a sub amp and a mid/tweeter amp? Just y split the signal off of that set of inputs? If so, when adjusting the subwoofer crossover, wouldn't you be messing with the rear channels as well? I think that's where the confusion is coming from.. I haven't managed to install mine yet; will post again when I get it all in (have to rewire my excursion, so gotta run a mile of wire)
It depends on what kind of amp your getting. If your useing a 4 channel amp, your gonna have a problem. You can do it, but you wont be able to fade. Thats pretty annoyin. If I were you I would return it and upgrade to the DDX812. Your gonna jump about double in price but its got alot of other features. It gives you one more preout and ups the volt. from 2 to 4. Also, the screen is 6.95" comp. to 6.1". 5.1 surround sound encoding, built in Bluetooth, 2 relay cont., and more. To me its worth it!
I'm using a JL A6450, 6ch amp. I ended up running the fronts off of the preamp output and the rears off of a line converter off the deck's speaker outputs. I have fade (kinda, the first 2 pairs act as the fronts and last pair acts as rears) but it took forever to adjust the gain from the line converter, gain on the amp and so on... wasn't fun to dial in at all.
Its stupid that Kenwood wont put just an extra set of rca's on it. You dont even get 3 pre-outs until you step up to the excelon model which is gonna run you more than double the price. But it is a great value for the money, kenwood really steped up in 2008 going back to the way they used to make em. Im really impressed, I got the KVT-819DVD which is the exceleon model, it was spendy, but not for what you get with it.
I just purchased this unit today and I was dreading reading through the book. This was excellent. It actually helped the book make sense. Great job!!!

Lets say that you have 500 songs on your thumb drive and you want to listen to a certain song. Is it easy to quickly get to that song? Thanks!

This unit does NOT play DIVX files. This unit plays MPEG1 or MPEG2 video files OR video files from a IPOD only.

i read theres no sub out or nething for a amp, is this true
dlesh04 3 years ago
That is incorrect. There is a sub output and the interface does have separate level and crossover controls for the subwoofer output
