@taofledermaus I made a few of these wax slugs out of hot glue. Going to test it tomorrow. Also I made a bunch of other homemade rounds from steel shot, 20mm steel screws, and galvanized steel hooks. Going to do some DAMAGE!

@ballisticsexpert8 I have to think about colors when I shoot in slo-mo. Turns out the crayons work quite well. I believe it is still paraffin wax but they also add talc to make the crayons harder. The crayon wax is harder and more brittle than either candle or canning wax. I don't know if it changes any of the properties of the rounds or makes a significant difference.

@zultone2 Not yet. I'm not sure if they would hold together, since the bird shot gives the rounds compressive strength. I don't think they'd be very exciting to be honest since they'd have little weight.

Looks like you got the same results with them that I got. Actually ever since I learned about them I have not bought any regular slugs ( at least not for the close range stuff I do for YT ). Also washers, glass beads & shot, nail heads, etc...all work well poured into a shot shell with wax.

How that you are quite familiar with making wax slugs, you can now experiment with shaped wax slugs. For example, adding a round nose, adding an aluminum fin (like the 12G frag shots shown in Future Weapon's episode that featured the AA12), and so forth. ( :

@ryukenosuke I've learned that these things would be terrible hunting rounds. What they really are,  are homemade breaching rounds. They work great up to about 20 yards max (while they are still going supersonic) It's when they slow down to subsonic they seem to lose stability. Think of them as really fast sledge hammers!

@madblunted Yeah, the term "wax slug" makes one think they are just solid wax. The wax is more like the cement and the pellets are the aggragate or ballast.

@JoeJoeTater Yes. We probably shot 75 rounds of this today. (about $18 worth of shells) If we were shooting factory slugs it would have cost us over $75 to shoot that many rounds. That's a lot of money for just "plinking".
