  • I always think Dick Dastardley was based on Grahame Hill

  • At that point he had won the British GP three years in a row. All of them in the Lotus 25 Climax.

  • I think Prost's style resembles Clark's as far as the smoothness goes. Senna, though a great driver, was erratic and didn't mind crashing into other cars.

  • i think the 60 and 70 was a real risking ur live 50/50 chance..thhat risk has been brought back down until the 90's when senna died..wonder how long it would take to see an other victim in formula 1 but statics thanks god have gone down.but among my favorites

driver that perish are clark, rindt, petersson ,depallier, villenueve,de angelis, and of course senna

  • A shame they had to put fences everywhere, trying to take photos is a nightmare!

  • Great to see the "old" Brands corners before all the re-profiling of the last 30 years or so.

  • A great race at a great circuit, not like today,s farce courtesy of Ecclestone.

  • I was also at there that day and also drove in races at Brands Hatch. I did not see Fangio drive but watched races with those that had and seen Moss, Clarke, Hill, Senna etc and they all said that Fangio was the master.

He must have been amazing then as Clarke's car control was simply awesome!

  • You were there? Amazing. PS, it's 'Clark', not 'Clarke'.

  • Yes I was there, and both Clark and Hill were totally on the limit all the time. Since wings and other aids were not used, the cars could get really close without losing grip and they both did get close at times.

Hill, on his day was as good as anyone, but Clark never seemed to have an off day.

Cars have now got safer, the Lotus I drove had its seat as the petrol tank, but with the higher speeds the circuits have changed beyond all recognition. Spa is but a shadow of its former self.

  • @frpd5 I too was there. Probably more interesting than it looked to an 11-year old, who found it exciting but a bit processional. Clark was indeed a great driver, maybe the greatest, but as a racing driver friend pointed out a few years later, Hill was appreciably heavier than Clark, so had to be very good indeed just to match Clark's times. But comparisons really are odious - they were both great drivers and it was a priviledge to see them.

  • @AntonHu But isn't there a minimum car and driver weight so as to offset the disadvantage of being a heavy driver. Surely the F1 rules would never allow a heavier driver to suffer because of his weight. F1 should be about skill behind the wheel of an F1 car, not the weight. Your freind doesn't know what he is talking about. How would he know that Graham Hill's weight was a disadvantage? Your freind probably doesn't know anything about minimum weight rules in F1.

  • @WhoLueYou There is indeed an minimum combined weight of car and driver now, but I very much doubt there was in 1964. Also, it is still an advantage to have a small, light driver even if you have to add ballast - ypu have more freedom to design the car; you only have to look at the current crop of drivers to see that big guys are absent.

  • Neubauer used to complain that Moss followed Fangio too closely. After all, what if Fangio made a mistake, Moss wouldn't be able to avoid him.

Moss's response? "Fangio doesn't make mistakes."

And that wasn't just rhetoric; he was betting his life on it.

  • I was at that race! My boyfriend took me. It was the first motor race I had ever seen in real life.

  • Clark is the best!

  • Jim Clark was perhaps the greatest race car driver of the 1960's, if not the greatest of all-time.

  • It's impossible to properly compare different drivers from different eras due to the difference in technical regulations, advancements in aerodynamics, etc... If you do the math JUST by the stats, then Clark is better. I respect them all since there is no way I can do what they have done.

  • also, brands hatch was a different circuit then to now, the corners were more open and round, paddock hill thankfully stayed the same!!

  • Paddock Hill bend was realighned in 1975,if you think it,s frightening now you should have seen it before!

  • I think Senna was better than Clark. But Senna himself thought Clark was the 'best of the best'.

  • Greatest drive that ever lived

  • Ahh Jimmy,Scotland still misses you.

    God bless son.

    Still the best.

  • for sure but for me gentleman jim clark was and always will be the greatest driver who ever raced on track there was no driving aids or cheating not like todays racing if he had not been so tragicly taken in his prime he could have easily won god knows how many titles he is my hero R.I.P. jimmy

  • Excellent! The first one I ever went to was the 1973 Race of Champions. I saw Ronnie Peterson pass Lauda in the wet at Paddock and I was hooked.

  • All the comments comparing todays drivers with Clark are totally ridiculous. The cars were primitive compared to todays cars. The modern car with all it's electronic and aerodynamic aids allow a driver with far less skill to be competitive.

Another point is that Clark didnt only race F1, but F2, F3, saloon cars, CanAm and Indy ALL IN THE SAME YEAR! And he dominated in almost all.

To compare Clark to any other driver is just plain stupid. He was the best

  • I was at the 1967 British Grand Prix which Jim won. It was an amazing day. One of the highlights was the when the spectators all got up and cheered the legendary Stirling Moss in his 1955 Mille Miglia winning Mercedes (722). Pity we were robbed of seeing the mature Clark and Moss racing against each other.

  • wow i wish i already lived that time so i could see Clark drive...Someone told me he was the Senna from the 60's. That's when i started 2 dig in his history...England has brought forward many legendary drivers...i hope Hamilton wins sunday

  • Sorry but, Clark can't be compared with Senna! Senna was never smooth and predictable like Clark. Senna was fast but rough and irratic and made other drivers uncomfortable around him on the track. Clark was fast smooth and respected by his fellow racers, so I am sorry but they really do not fall into class!

  • well maybe u r right.i can't tell cause i never saw Jim Clark race since i joined youtube. u r right about Senna but i wouldn't call his style irratic but more agressive.

  • His style is more passionate... That's what I see.. This is his trait that endeared him to the F1 fans worldwide...

  • @macghillie

Senna sucked compared to Clark. Clark was the greatest. EVER!!!!

  • @imwhitewolf

I wouldn't say Senna "sucked" compared to Clark, but Senna did after all lose on points to Prost both in 1988 and 1989 (only the best 11 races counted, otherwise Prost would have won both).

Nobody ever beat Clark in any car, and as long as the Lotus held he was usually at the front, even in uncompetitive cars.

In Zandvoort 1966, Clark was driving a Lotus with a 2litre Climax engine, and leading against Jack Brabham in the 3,0 litre Brabham Repco. A mechanical failure robbed him.

  • @McLarenMercedes

In 89 he had 6 mechanical failures and the mess at Suzuka. In 88 he won fairly.

  • @Funkdogg

Sorry mate you got it wrong, but the late Jim Clark was not an Englishman, he was a Scotsman and proud of it, almost as much as Jackie Stewart! Other famous fast Scots, - Dario Franchitti, Tom Walkinshaw, David Coulthard, Danald Campbell, Colin McRae, Alister McRae, John Cleland, Susie Stoddart, David Leslie to name a few of the better known ones!

  • Brands Hatch was a great GP circuit. Wish I'd been old enough to see it as it was back then. Shame the safety brigade ruined everything.

  • I disagree. If the safety brigade had acted faster, we'd still have Jim Clark amongst us living.

  • And if they'd made every circuit with half a mile of run off on every corner, and governed the speed of all racing cars to 30mph, we'd never have lost a single driver. How far do you want to take safety? It's gone too far.

  • I reckon that is bullocks. It has not gone too far.

  • Well I reckon you're part of the current health and safety brigade of gutless individuals who feel that life itself should be wrapped in cotton wool. A real circuit needs to have some dangerous corners, to sort the men from the boys. Any driver can go through an easy corner quickly. Without some risk what is the point?

  • I can see your point, Spa and Monza or Shangai and Dubai?

  • i wld defo go with spa and monza. to me the lack of safety made motor racing exciting and a proper mans sport

  • they shud bring in road races, lik a the north west 200 of f1

  • Thanks for the upload

  • Hamilton is today's Clark.

  • Give me a break! stop trying to say Hamilton amazin, hamilton is the best, hamiltons gonna win the world championship bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla!

i fuckin hate it, the video is about the late great Jim Clark, keep it that way!

  • Hamilton is amazing, just like Clark was.

  • I completely agree. Out of every great driver in the history of F1 I've seen, he is most like Clark. He is so desperately quick and at Monaco and Montreal I was convinced he couldn't keep it up all race. Yet he did and scored a brilliant win while he was at. Alonso is just a better driver due to experience and cunning.

  • you know what? Hamilton is amazing, Hamilton is great ,Hamilton is gonna win the world championship and bla bla bla bla bla:)

  • As I mentioned, Clark was my absolute hero. I was stunned and terribly depressed when he got killed. On top of all that those men were great pals with each other. Even the great Senna deliberately smashed in to Prost to stop him winning one of his many titles. The very great Jim Clark was a true gentleman. I am so grateful for all the information shown on Jim Clark.

  • well said. Those men were real gentlemen drivers.

  • @cattleman6420012000 i totally agree with you=]=]

  • @cattleman6420012000 So true i think a respect these guys had because they put their lives in each others hands.

  • Clark was my true hero! He was a fantastic driver at a terribly dangerous time.

  • Lets face it Clark could beat Schumacher no problem

  • How can you compare Schumacher to Clark?

    Completely different racing eras!

  • Schumacher was a better all around driver and team member, but given the same white car and wearing the same white helmet, you'd be able to tell Clark cause he'd be in the lead. IMO he was faster and more naturally talented than Senna, because Senna had to work for it. Clark was just effortlessly good. Light years ahead of the rest.

  • @ian7796 agreed

  • Great to see those legendary racers in action. Its very rare that you can see videos such as this one. Where did you get this kind of videos? Who is your favorite f1 driver today? Who is better for you, senna or schumacher? Thanks for the video clip!
