it already beat it up with the HyperTransport for less Mgh involve you should take a tour to wikipedia the give a good explanation of that technologie and see that is a key feature that amd adopted there. but I admit it intel give better Procesing performance but if we take all the spec of amd vs Intel Like data transfer capability betwene the FSB of intel and hyperTransport of amd and other I'm quite confident that AMD is going to beat it.
Hi it is not am2 you should search for socket L1 or 1207. This is more for server rack, in fact that is beacause that it need more pins for the cpu to interconect direcly insted of loading the HyperTransport or the integrated memory controler and floding it with acces.
klforever2003, Intel doesn't have a quad core cpu on the market yet. They won't until Penryn is released. Penryn will be more expensive and it will use more watts then Barcelona. Making a chip smaller doesn't make it go faster, it makes it more expensive for customers.
Q6600, Q6700, QX6700, QX6800, and QX6850 are all quad processors for the desktop made by intel. They also have numerous Xeons that are quadcore. Such as the Tigerton, Kentsfiled and Clovertown series. And, yes, making a chip smaller does make it go faster. It allows the transisters to be packed together more densely which in turn speeds up communication. The only thing halfway correct in your entire statement relates to the watts used by a CPU. I suggest reading up on chips from both AMD/Intel
All current Intel Core 2 Quad's aren't 'true' quad core products; they're two dual-core CPU's housed in the same package..not on the same die unlike AMD's Barcelona.
Further, unlike Barcelona these quads contain no onboard memory controller or dedicated interlink, hence all 4 cores are forced to communicate via the CPU's FSB. The only thing Intel can do at present to try and alleviate this bottleneck is to raise the FSB speed and increase cache memory.
klforever2003, without AMD there would be no Core 2 Quads.
Despite having nowhere near the resources Intel has at hand, AMD still managed to produce some very competitive, powerful products, and also built up an impressive customer base. The University of Texas recently acquired 15,000 quad-core AMD processors in order to build a very powerful super-computer.
As regards the 45nm production process..AMD has those coming up shortly.
Kudos AMD. I've been watching you lately. I'm running an AMD FX62 now. I've been very happy with it. From what I've read about Barcelona it's quite impressive. Whether or not it will beat Penryn in speed is another thing. Sales? 65nm costs less to produce then 45nm. I think AMD will continue to gobble up market share from Intel.
ommmmmmmgggggggggggggg thats superrrrrr bootup lmfao im getting mine tommorow im soooo happy , ill upgrade to super good stuff a 8gb ram ddr 800mhz Geil ram and 8800gts 640mb and 1TB hard drive will kick ass
Makes me wish I bought Socket F instead of AM2. I wonder if there's quad for AM2 coming in September.
As for the Intel fanboys, the Q6700s sure are nice, but they don't plug into opteron motherboards so they're kind of useless if one has already invested in socket F.
No, there are no plans to ever produce any more new processors for the am2 socket. All future processors will be produced for socket f or socket 1207.
too slow, too late, and too hot. I'll take an Intel Conroe based dual or quad core chip anytime over this overhyped obsolete chip. Strange that there's still no independent review of Barcelona yet and the launch is already supposed to have taken place!
amd does the same thing...my 939 mobo is pretty useless as far as upgrading goes.. Im sure quad core will replace duel core am2 or whatever the hell its called. but hey maybe we can go up a whole 2 speed bins with our 939's.. AMD need to get thier act together fast. Id hate to buy intel for my next comp..
If you actually payed attention, you'd notice that this isn't supposed to be shown to clients. Read in red at the beginning of the video: "Technical Sales Training For INTERNAL USE".
Of course, since it IS AMD, the first revision silicon won't be too great, while the second will be pretty sick. Maybe the third...but by then, Penryn will be out, and ES's of Nehelem will be around :x
AMDs quad is too late, too slow, too expensive, too hot, too unreliable. Thats's why Intel will keep on being number one in servers. AMD is for n00bs.
You know there are also anti-static ankle straps, besides if you grounded yourself right before it's EXTREMELY unlikely that you'd gather a static charge in 0.2 secs out of nowhere, unless a cat rubs against your nylon trousers or something maybe :)
and be honest.. most motherboards of intel needed chipset changes for different versions, until the current years's motherboards from intel... when they finally did a penryn compatible mobos.
Thermal paste sticks to the bottom of a heatsink like glue. You wouldn't need to replace it. Apparently, AMD quietly released a 2.3 ghz Opteron last week. Is this, that?
i noticed the same thing. Also Barcelona is suppose to be faster AK7zinn2b just so you know and you can also have this as a desktop configuration which will own but for now will not but fully utilized.
this is socket-f or socket 1207. There are no new processors being produced for socket 939, and there have not been since spring 2006. As well, no new processors are being produced or ever will be for socket am2. The future is socket-f, all new processors will be socket-f.
I know that, I was trying to remember how stupid amd was, when ramped AM2 instead of using 939, and the same is hapening now, with AM2. Who thought am2 was the future, now will have buy another mobo. I wont dump my 939 until happens a real leap.
same here, now if i go for X2 6000+ or 6400+ have to change my mobo to AM2, and thats crappy ! i alway a AMD fan but with this i think im gonna be Intel's client. Yeah, im order a QUAD 6600 and a Striker Extreme via eBay, need a 1000W PSU and thats it! In the future i think maybe im gonna need a 8800 GPU, but not now !
Another example of AMD once again listening to their customers. Much easier to do a field upgrade to add performance, than to endure the down time of swapping out an entire server, especially with the time to move the data and reconfigure the server and drivers.
Talk about useless . Intel allows for the same upgrade path. Has higher performance and better efficiency. These days the only thing coming from AMD is useless slide shows and videos like this that really show nothing . Could anyone who was able to read the performance please post it along with power usage.
intel loves you to buy their overpriced mobos over and over and over for every minor changes.. until now, they finally understood that noone likes that.
you should thank AMD for kicking intel's nuts and made them do something better for once..

yah its the chip that contains the bios. Some motherboards allow you to remove it or replace it and some are permanently soldered.

Somewhat yes.
AMD will prevail. Just see what happens when K10.5, called Shanghai, (45nm refresh of K10) comes out in Q3 to Q4 2008 :)
Intel can't keep doing their tick-tock for long. They will run into problems and lose the performance crown again :)

AMD sucks, how come there is 2 cpu in one pc?
fucking idiot. Intel Quadcore is better, only one cpu. Intel discover 65 NM and $5 NM,
AMD does not how to make it lol, that's why they use 2 cpu to make 4 cores.

4 multiplied by 2 is 8. In the Video they build a octa-core System with two quadcore Processors, manufactured by AMD. AMD sells quadcore Processors.
