Kimi wiped the floor with jpm? r u fucking kidding me when they went 1 on 1 jpm won more times than not. It was well documented that the McLaren was made for Kimi and Juan struggled to adapt
@miamicanes09 Both liked oversteery cars, the Mclaren oversteered, not much to adapt to. The biggest thing he would have had to adapt to was the new tires.
And results dont lie, Kimi scored significantly more points even though when both on form they were pretty equal.
@MetaKnightsKirby No, Google the old interviews of 2005, JPM's adaptation struggles were due to a Kimi built understeering McLaren, the team even designed multiple whole new front suspensions to make the car more positive even though it compromised the concept of the car, only JPM used it and Kimi didnt, and when he did get more comfortable he was demonstrably quicker than Kimi by late 2005. 2006 was square one again by which JPM lost interest in F1 altogether. JPM > Kimi.
@EpicLiima My reasons are clearly more carefully typed and considered than your own so if you want to actually engage a discussion than great. I think Montoya outperformed Kimi in 2005, and over their careers he was the faster, the aforementioned reasons being just some of them. Want to take up some of those to start off with?
@tubehows4life i laugh my ass off when you say Mclaren build a understeer car in which kimi prefer oversteer....and watch the video carefully and you will notice.....THE CAR IS NVR CLOSE TO UNDERSTEER.....KIMI > JPM ANYTIME!!
@chanyiwei Thats because it was mishandling. Google his interview afterwards. And google all the 2005 interviews from both Montoya and McLaren and you will see them both talking about Montoya's car-handling characteristics struggles and how they experimented with no less than seven front suspensions specifically for Montoya during their time together. It sadly worked for him less often than it didn't, because it compromises the design of the car. Kimi never used them.
@Anime998877 Kimi wiped the floor with him.. it was fainfull.. lol... Montoya was the only driver of the last decade to get sacked in the middle of a season out of the toop teams... ouch!
"Ron Dennis wants a big hole to come along and just swallow him up" LMAO! Epic commentary. That slide also cost Raikkonen more than a tenth but he did brilliantly to hold. He was a different class to Montoya.
@RonnieChampion147 Montoya wasn't as fast as Kimi but he was the best at overtaking. He could pass where others couldn't (look at his williams years). And in 2005 it was his first season in McLaren. Kimi was there for 3 years already. I'm a big Kimi fan, but Montoya had pure attacking instinct that I only see sometimes in Hamilton. Raikkonen on the other hand was pure speed, no one like him. Alonso is constant in what he does. I still go for Raikkonen from these guys. Just pure speed.
I´ve been to the Grand Prix that week end and sat at turn 1 watching this qualifying, surrounded by hundreds, maybe thousands of other Schumacher fans (I´ve been one at those times too). You cannot believe the way people around us were cheering Montoyas crash. And once again I have to admit that Kimi was amazing in 2005, sitting in an amazing but unfortunately unreliable car.
There must have been something in the last corner. Räikkönen had to catch a slide and JPM even spun after Kimis run although Montoya didn't push as hard as Kimi. I don't think that this was a driving error...
I went there in 2005 and I have to say that the sound of the Mercedes V10 is good on TV. But live it's a lot better - maybe because there isn't so much commentary.
@mercedesf1GER94 Fully agreed. Been to F1 for the first time there, sitting at turn 1 next to the pit lane exit. I had goose bumps all over the place when the Minardi roared on the track, V10s of Honda, Renault, Mercedes and Ferrari were absolutely amazing machines.
Montoya MIGHT have had pole, but we'll never know. Going by how the race played out, though, JPM would've won that race by miles (after Kimi's engine failure).
@UltimateWheelman Montoya was horrible in 2005.. he suffer the (Kimi syndrome) and it cost Mclaren a lot of money... he should've been fired 6 months earlier... i doubt he would've got pole, he was out of shape going into stadium.. even if he nailed last corner he had lost a lot of time previously
@dario272 Montoya was injured for most of the first half of 2005. He was much better in the 2nd half of the season. He definitely deserved to be at McLaren in 2006. Also, Montoya was much cleaner than Kimi in the stadium section until he slid off, so I think he would've clawed back that 0.096 that he was down after sector 2, and perhaps more.
@UltimateWheelman It doesn't matter if he was cleaner in Turn 9 if he can't keep the car on track. Like Ron Dennis said "to win a race, you have to finish it." And in 05 Räikkönen scored 75 points after USA, Montoya did 44 in same time, so it's hard to your point. And in the whole season Räikkönen scored almost double (112 points) compared to Montoyas 60. And no need to talk about luck either Kimi had enough engine failures in both qualifyings and races to lose championship only because of luck.
@CTUfinland You don't even know what I wrote! I responded to someone who was saying that Montoya did not deserve to be at McLaren in 2006. I said Montoya did deserve to be there in 2006, and I NEVER said Montoya was better than Kimi in the 2nd half. I said Montoya was better in the 2nd half than he was in the 1st half. Where are you getting all this other stuff from?
Mclaren should have told JPM that the car was oversteering in the final corner lol.

And if I can remember correctly: Kimi retire for some problems and Montoya with no time started in 19th and made it to second place.

This video is about as accurate as it gets. Raikkonen and Montoya were fairly equal in terms of speed, but Montoya was a master at making cock-ups.
