The Israelites placed such a premium on the unity of their tribes that they saw this city's non-cooperation in battle as worthy of widespread death. The passage does not give God's approval to this destruction of men, women and children.

Maybe ask the victim what they thought would be fair and go from there? The biggest point I'm making is I think that would be the best deterrent in keeping people from committing crimes. Get beat with a cane and all of a sudden crime doesn't really sound that good anymore. Worked when you were a kid didn't it?

Actually, I'm in complete support of raising the death penalty to include child molesters. And he didn't "rape" a girl. He RAPED a girl. Got her drunk, then fed her quaaludes and other sedatives, which alone could've killed her, then forcibly performed oral, vaginal and anal sex on her while she was attempting to push a 44 year old man off of her and begging him to stop. So, yeah, I want someone who does that thrown in a cell until they die or are executed, without question.
