  • only pics?.......w the video?

  • I would sell my soul for that car... are ya listening Satan? loved those old Galaxies and Fairlanes

  • apear on american peakers

  • @5191keith i will do my best, American muscle will NEVER die.

  • That is a lottery car

  • This is what God would drive.

  • well i dont like all the chat here..all i got is a little 351 ranger.. i thik all ford guys should stick together... i cant cant afford an sohc but it doesnt mean i hate the guy that does... i hate theguy with the l-82 corvette that thinks hes the shit

  • @jrlaurin That's right, I'm like the commercial that says I'd rather fight than switch. I found out in the nineties at a car show tha this Mercury dealer in my area was selling SOHC motors in the crate ready to run for $975 in 1975 because Ford had scraped the program. Boy was I blown, because I had the money at that time, if only I had known. I bought my first Ford when I was 17 for fifty dollars, wouldn't by anything else.

  • 427 sohc, you are the most amazing v8 i have ever seen.

  • Comment removed

  • T-10? beefed up they say, I sure hope so. really a T-10 wasn't that strong.

  • I love this crap! A Hemi as it came from the factory was about 475hp. Add a good set of 2 inch headers and you got close to 525hp. Tune it on the dyno and do a few little tricks like indexing the plugs and I bet you would see 550hp. If you want proof that thats all a street hemi had then check out the 1/4 mile times for a 70 440 6pack Cuda and hemi Cuda, with the same tranny and same rear end gears and same options, they had almost identical times........

  • @11TwistedHalo using quarter mile times from different cars with different motors to guess a motor's hp is not proof of anything, dipshit. An 800hp car could run way slower than a 400hp car because of traction issues for example

  • Actually, the 2x4V (as is the version shown in the car in this video) was rated at 657 horsepower; the 1x4V version (not shown) was rated at 616 horsepower.

  • why does it have a 1967 steering wheel?

  • Wow, great looking car. Only drawback is this car probably will not get driven much. I've had my 66 390 24 years now. Gee, has it really been that long??

  • my dream car, except i would have buckets instead of the bench other than that an absolutely badass sleeper

  • I'm in love! This is my dream car.

  • I would sell my soul for this

  • prius? hahaha

  • Heavy duty t-10 toploader? wouldnt a c6 be more appropriate?

  • Don't get me wrong, the car in this video is sexy as hell ! If it has a an engine and is fast enough to get me in trouble I like it, no matter who built it.

  • @fordfreak17 Been away for a while and just now getting around to commenting. NASCAR band all big blocks. mostly because Chevy couldn't keep up but they jnow their small blocks were tough. Today their all small blocks, The good ol days were back when they used the 426hemi (real hemi), the Boss 429, the 427 SOHC, 440cid...... Now you either have to go to a vintage race or drag strip to see these monsters in action.

  • Is it for sale?

  • when cars had looks, love the 60's muscle car era.

  • I bet this sleeper would embarrass alot of guys who think their car is fast

  • @fordfreak17 It was. They Dodge Daytona and Plymouth Superbirds were hitting such high speeds that NASCAR stepped up and atarted restricting them on everything from carb size to cubic inches. If you ever get a chance to watch any footage from the old races check them out, talk about some wild crashes. Only thing is a lot of drivers and spectators were killed by these wrecks. If NASCAR hadn't started the restriction no telling how fast they would be today.

  • 600hp. hahahahaha.. rear wheel maybe those sohc motors were monsters

  • @jaratt85 Actually if you can find a January 1965 issue of Hot Rod magazine you will find out these engines were really putting out close to 700 hp they way they were shipped from Ford.

  • @bubblejomay yeah and what I meant was 600hp rear wheel which is about 33% less than crank, actually soch made (from what I read) about 680 single 4 and went up from there depending which carbs and distributor, low power was edelbrock then carter then holley double pumpers then injection methanol nitro etc... and 2 holley dps with a good distributor ran about 1000hp hemi was the same way, detune with carbs and timing curve and compression for street use

  • also when the 426 hemi was running 90% nitro and a blower drag racing in slingshots they made about 9600hp whereas the SOHC made a whopping 11,600 with the same setup... 6 ft timing chain was the biggest weakness

  • @jaratt85 where,d you get the numbers from ,mate?....NO drag car has ever made anywhere near 9600 hp,let alone 11,600.....your dreaming!....Top fuellers these days make about 8,000 or so hp

  • @68bobba yeah they did, they often say these days that they make less horsepower now than they did in the old days. I saw it a few places online, cant remember exactly where but I know it was mentioned in the history article at the beginning of the directions for some revell monogram engine models of the bloown injected tf engines and they are typically really good about having actual facts.

  • @jaratt85 top fuellers didn,t start making 6,000hp until the 80s mate,so how could they make that much in the 60,s.....

  • @68bobba funny considering mike dunn on nhra drag racing has said multiple times that they used to actually make more horsepower than they do now, its just these days they have better clutches, tires, and timing systems to be able to actually put it all to the track rather than doing a quarter mile burnout

  • @jaratt85 All the info I,ve read says otherwise....your right about the technology being better nowadays....back then the engines were smaller, the blowers were smaller, the fuel wasn,t as good.....Tony Schumachers top fueller (fastest top fueller on the planet) only makes about 8,500hp....

  • @68bobba you also have to remember that back then there werent as many restricttions on it, these days they purposely keep the power down for saftey, hence the max 500 ci, only allowing 85-90% nitro, and certain amounts of overdrive on certain tracks, plus 1000 ft racing.. back then, things werent as controlled. the guys could throw whatever ratio they wanted into the cars, as much overdrive as they could on the blower, and as much fuel into the cylinders as the injectors could..

  • @68bobba nitro methane is nitro methane is nitro methane, its the same shit it always has been. its a solvent thats used in the pharmacuedical industry more than anything and it has been around alot longer than most people realize and it has never changed

  • @jaratt85 it was a much more, seat of your pants, racing style than today, it was still new and at that time the danger level was acceptable... look at nascar in the late 60s-1971.. 213mph at daytona in a wing car with what 9.5 inch wide 180 mph rated bias ply tires? thats why restrictor plates exist and thats why nhra has imposed all the restrictions they have. really its hard to say either way, the tech in those days wasnt the best (for dynos and stuff especially) so whos to say exactly

  • @jaratt85 the lap record for a Dodge Daytona at Daytona Speedway is around 204-205mph which was set by Bobby Isaacs....the NASCAR overall lap record is 210mph....look at the engines they were running in the 60s...392,426 cast iron block Hemis,..Donovan417,KeithBlack all alloy Hemis...Cammers....maybe the odd Chevy....all good engines, but not capable of the HP your talking about

  • @68bobba sorry american muscle car about the daytona (wing car) said they did a lap at daytona at 213... and as for the horsepower... the og 426 made 820 with relatively low compression... dont believe me? check this out. here on youtube /watch?v=eIU0tFA3bKM

  • @jaratt85 Which 426 are you talkng about mate?.....the street Hemi or the race Hemi?.....I,ve read the street version was good for 500hp(factory rated @425).....while the race Hemi was good for just under700(also factory rated @425).....I read an article on Jim Read(the godfather of top fuel drag racing in Australia) saying in the late 60s and early 70s top fuellers were making between4,000 and 5,000 hp.....these were comparable to those in the states

  • @68bobba in completely stock trim they were maybe 550 hp STREET but as soon as a tuner got a hold of them the real potential showed. you can never judge a 60s car off of what the factory rated them as, hell in 72 ford rated the 429@ 290hp... YEAH RIGHT!!! if you delete the slash and everything afterward on this page and add in /watch?v=eIU0tFA3bKM you will see the dyno run of a damn near stock street 426 with 10.25:1 compression making 820HP and thats a well known show I trust

  • @jaratt85 I don,t doubt with a bit of work a 426 Hemi could make 820hp.....I,m a Chrysler fan mate....I think the 426 Hemi was the greatest V8 engine ever made....you don,t have to persuade me about that.....but 8,000hp+ in a 60s top fueller was not possible....as for the factory ratings, they weren,t worth shit

  • @68bobba well Im sorry, those are the numbers Ive heard from multiple sources and some of the most notable people that raced them so... I will stick by what I said and believe the guys that were either there turning the wrenches or strapping themselves into the machines... or like Mike Dunn, his father Big Jim Dunn was the racer in the 60s

  • @68bobba I dated a girl back in early 80's who's step-dad wrenched on a Top Fuel team (she said the driver was killed), saw a pic of the car & 2 mid-60's Corvettes in his bedroom once, also a check he still got from Shell Oil for ??, his wife said he did excellent porting. Anyway, I asked him once about putting a 6-71 on a Chevy 350 & believe he said a 8-71 was all the blower a Fuel engine needs, maybe one reason for lower power back then (heard he finally drank himself to death..sad)

  • What a classic!!! I sure miss seeing cars like these on the streets.

  • what are these teens doing in here? these cars are for us older folks. In order to like an older car,you have to have been alive when it was in production, though not necessarily of driving age.

  • i've never heard of a t-10 toploader trans. it is either a t-10 or a toploader. probably a toploader since they basically switched to that trans after 65 to handle all the increased horsepower and torque the new big blocks were making. i had a black 66 fairlane gt with a 390 in it. was one of my favorite cars.

  • i love how im 13 and know ever gosh dang thing this man just said means but there is people who are 15 and dont know what a single over head cam is.

  • yes, on each head.

  • Those SOHC motors were the best motors back then,i wish i had one.

  • @rp94cobra

does sohc mean single overhead cam in this case?

  • @tpvalley:

Yer dern tootin' it means "Single Overhead Cam"

Ford engineers developed this motor in 90 days, basing it on the 427 pushrod block.

  • I want one too !!

  • Holy Sh*t!!!! You'd better be packin' some serious heat if you're going to outrun this thing...

  • AJAG You will never make a dime or even be remotely successful in life, your lack of intellect is only eclipsed buy the size of your 3" dick! Another Obama supporter I'm sure!! Change your name to AJAG it suites you!!!

  • Fucking sweet, I'd give my left nut to own that fucking thing!

  • I love this car, sooo rare.

  • What a sleeper. A definite wake up for anyone next to you at a light. Super nice job!!

  • ha fuck ford

  • @surfing1234 ...rather do that than be seen in that new uglyass Camaro......ughhh....

  • @AintLifeGarand

hahaha not when it has a big block chevy!

  • Better.Than.Sex

  • This is my dream car!!!!! THIS IS THE ULTIMATE IN FORD CARS!!!!! The nicest thing about this car is it is a plain jane fairlane sedan that has been built by the best with the best back when cars were cars, what would a car like that be worth"priceless"....the REAL DEAL...

  • Oh, what a disappointment. We need to hear it. Start her up..

  • Thanx for the details. This is indeed a rarity that has been well preserved/restored(?) and wins bragging rights anywhere it's driven from anyone who knows anything about vintage muscle. Thanx for posting.

  • That belongs in a museum.

  • @ adammarquez

    Sounds sweet!!!!

    I'm 16 and I've got a '70 olds 442 vert... Best car I've driven... It's got some balls

  • holy shit i pray for that motor it is like a god

  • wow nascar steering does that mean it cant go around a unbanked right hand corner or any type of left hand corner

  • sweeet !! would love one of those :)

  • Chev eater!

  • perfect engine in the perfect car!

  • Narrator; No such thing as a T-10 toploader four speed.

  • One or the other. Probably has a toploader as they were all going to that. Good tranny.

  • badazz! :-)

  • booooooya one bad ass ford !!

  • I'm a 16 year old, that drives a 1965 Oldsmobile 442 sport coupe, everyday. some people prefer foreign vehicles. i am a muscle fan. hands down.

  • @adammarquez couldnt have said it better! never have never will lmao

  • @adammarquez God Damn im only 15 1/2 and i got a cherry red 66 mustang cuope im puttin dyno in it, and my uncles 1961 Chevy Impala Bubbletop with old hydrolics. a sick car is the 49/50 mercury (top chopped), an El Camino eather 66 or a 64 and a Ford Falcon Ranchero 1965 :D!!!!!!!! thunmbs up for these rides especally the Impala bubbletop

  • @adammarquez

That's the only way to be buddy!

  • @adammarquez im 16 and i drive a 72 cutlass i a muscle car fan too

  • @adammarquez who cares how old you are?

  • @GIwillo lmao at least i didn't post the exact same comment 2 months apart.

  • @adammarquez huh?!

  • @adammarquez

same. first car was a classic.

  • @adammarquez who cares how old you are?!

  • I got to ride in a fresh rebuilt original 427 fairlane gt. enjoyed the ride.

  • Most teenagers would want some type of rice burner or some crap like that but if I could have any car in the world it would be this one. I love the 60s fairlanes and galaxies with the 427s bolted to the four speed in them.

Especially when they have the 426 HEMI eating SOHC beast crammed in w/ a sleeper look to them. To bad i wasnt around in the "total performance" age. It really sucks knowing all these big blocks are being melted down for a these things they call motors today. :(

  • @AJahtp What.........is your problem, Moron?...

  • @AintLifeGarand . No the question is, what is your problem? Stupid fuck.

  • @AJahtp That was my question, Moron. Find another. How about a .45 in the forehead?...

  • @AJahtp ...actually, there should be a comma where your question mark is, but since you probably didn't even graduate high school, we'll let it slide...:)

  • @AintLifeGarand

No there shouldn't be a comma there, your a dumbass. And "actually" im in college. You need to get fucking laid and get your little dicked virgin bitch ass out your moms basement. Your just wanting to argue, you never even mentioned what you were bitchin about in the first place.

  • @AJahtp ...Once again, you didn't put a comma where there SHOULD be one, be-cauuuse, you're a college student and you dropped out of mama thinking you know everything? "Your a dumbass" is supposed to be you're a dumbass, Dumbass. YOU ARE = YOU'RE. Ju-das. No wonder our country voted an idiot into office...

  • @AJahtp P.S.S. Why did you put actually in quotation marks?..."Your just wanting to argue" = You're just wanting to argue. Your college education is obviously wasted...

  • @AintLifeGarand

Again, why are you talking shit in the first place? Again for the 2nd time, go lose our virginity, you justin bieber loving queer'o'sexual. LMFAO

  • @AJahtp ...was that English, or what?...

  • @AJahtp I explained my original problem in the previous post, numbnut college kid. Why are you so stupid?...

  • @AintLifeGarand

Why dont you quit sucking on your moms tits, and get a life.

  • @AJahtp Wow. That all you got? You are hilarious.

  • @AJahtp I'm 16, I drive a 93 f150 single cab short bed with a 302, love it! I'm getting the entire exhaust redone for 75 more horses! That'll bring me to around 300 hp and 400 lb/ft torque est. Can't wait!

  • Nice. I have a 1971 F100 (short wheel base) I'm about to get goin. It's got a 302 thats been bored .60, blue printed and balanced, trw forged pistons, arp rod bolts, gt40 heads, edelbrock performer plus cam, 289 edelbrock f4b intake thats been ported and polished, and topped off with a 600cfm Holley. For the exhaust it has hedman headers with thrush mufflers goin straight out the back. It set off all the car alarms in a parking garage lol. I have a video of it, check it out.

  • Exhaust won't give you that much, dumb ass

  • You don't get 75 Horsepower out of exhaust mods

  • @SButler83...

An engine with a 1000hp could lose 75hp because of a restrictive exhaust system...true story.

  • I can't imagine driving a 66 Fairlaine with a cammer. Get the job done with pure cubic inches. Gorgeous car!

  • damn what a nice car, keep the good work

  • Ruler2009, c'mon now, don't say that! You're just jealous because you drive a pink Prius.

  • Yeah Matlock, that's it.

  • pink Prius LOL!

  • Brings back memories...

  • First thing I would do is swap out the instrument panel and put in a 66 Mercury Cyclone one that has full cluster.

  • doesnt look like an overhead cam engine?

  • have you ever looked at a pic of a 427 SOHC?

  • yes I saw them but couldnt see the cam drive etc.

But they r overhead cam yes?

I know they seemed to look the same as a hemi pushrod engine?

  • That's a SOHC engine in that video. Look at those massive heads.

  • to my non familiar eye it look like a hemi!

  • Do a google search and you can get more information on the engine. It's an exotic engine even today.

  • ok, is it a 4 valve per cylinder thing btw before I look?

I may look I may not...limited download time on here!!

  • It has 2 valves per cylinder and a single cam centered on the head which controls both the intake and exhaust valve.

  • does it use rockers acting on top of cam over to valves or does the cam push down on bucket type things?

I never knew ford made anything like this in them days, were they production engines or special race engines?

  • The cam is centered on the head. The valves are on the left and right which are moved by roller rocker arms that ride on the cam lobes.

You could order this engine from ford as a special oreder item. Just as the buyer did with this car in the video.

  • so r they quite common engines?

  • No, just ask yourself how many you have seen.

  • I live in UK so I havent even seen any of these cars featured!!!

  • @tpvalley was never a production motor very very hard to find

same as the boss 429 another hemi ford built just for Nascar

  • @dexter2433 Ford put the overhead cam 427 in a few "executive" cars for Ford higher-ups and big dealers. Many engines were built, but when the GM-owned NASCAR nixed the engine hallucinating the Chevy rat motor would dominate stock car racing. There were over 1000 Boss (totally different from the Cammer) 429's built as Mustangs. These were intended to be also installed in NASCAR Fairlanes. GM forced NASCAR to use small blocks at that point, realizing the hemi and Boss were Rat killers.

  • @oldmusher Don't forget the one that really dominated nascar, the 426 hemi Superbird and Daytona. I'm a Ford fan myself but those Dodge and Plymouth monsters put a whooping on everyone. Ford tried to get back at them with the Taladaga but Nascar came out with all the restrictions saying the cars were getting to fast. You can never get to fast! I still remember the Sr's in high school cruising around town in the Judge's, Mach1's, SS's and 442's. Damn Opec and Emissions!

  • @pdqasapdamnit There is a reason Chrysler dominated but they do not hold the record for the fasted lap that was set in 1964 and still holds today. When you get the answer you will be surprised

  • @bubblejomay Not sure which fastest lap you are refering to. The fastest NASCAR lap was set in 1987 by Bill Elliot at 210mph, before restrictor plates were required. Rusty Wallace went 216mph in 2004 without a restrictor plate but he did not meet requirments to qualify it as a nascar lap, but he did run faster. In 1970 Buddy Baker broke 200mph on lap 30 in a Daytona. Plenty more records out there, fastest laps at a certain track? Not sure which one your speaking of.

  • @pdqasapdamnit There was a Ford magazine that did an article on the SOHC engine with the sub-title "What King Kong Bought to the Party" in this article it was stated when this engine was being tested in 1964 it was put into a 1964 Galaxie 500 and taken to Daytona and it ran a test lap of 238mph.

  • @bubblejomay There were a few that allegedly broke lap records but they either didn't meet NASCAR requirments or were not correctly recorded to be entered into the record books. In 1970 a Plymouth Superbird was reported to have ran 244.098mph but no NASCAR officials were present to back the claim so it didn't make the record books. In 1969 a 429cid Ford Talladega broke 239.47mph but when inspected it did not pass NASCAR requirments for some reason, looked but can't find it on the net.

  • @pdqasapdamnit that was a 69 Charger Daytona, not a Superbird, that did 243mph on Chryslers Chelsea test track with Charlie Glotztbach at the wheel....Buddy Baker was the first Nascar driver to set a 200mph average speed lap record, which was later beaten by Bobby Isaacs, also in a Daytona

  • sweet ride my favorite car ever. i just bought one on ebay for $4,300 its got a 289 and a three speed on the floor. im not sure if it came with the 3 speed on the floor if anyone knows if it is plz let me know thanks

  • i absolutely love these cars, my dad collects them, has a restored 66 gta, 67 500xl rag...the cars im going to restore for him are (already have them) 67 500xl hard top with original 289/c4 combo, 66' 500xl rag top (289/c4) and 3 other shells sitting around

  • back during that time you could get just about anything you wanted from ford or somebody like holman - moody . i have seen a 66 belair chev wagon 427 , 4 speed , 64 ford country squire wagon 390 hp , 4 speed . i have owned a 64 merc marauder 390 hp , 4 speed , 4.11 gear with detroit locker . these were factory correct equipment cars . you cant interchange galaxie and fairlane body parts . fairlane is a unibody , galaxie has a frame . 66 fairlane . i had one like it with a 289 in .

  • XL trim on automatic 1966 Fairlanes had bucket seats and center console. Why does this one have a bench seat? Confused

  • he wanted a sleeper

  • THAT IS FU#^N AWESOME

  • Bet that went for 200 G's+.

Rare car, uber rare motor, built by well known race team.

  • sweet car!

  • I'll bet that car could just about pull the stick outta Jack Webbs ass!!!!

  • Coolest car I ever saw

  • I saw a few in my town, a Beautiful car in real like, 1 in compition orange, & 1 in Creme

  • The steering wheel says '67.

  • that huge ass foam center cap...ive only seen them on 678 fairlanes.....however take a second look at the grill, thats a 66' style grill, '67s were slightly different and had 2 black pinstriped triangles (one inside the other) on each headlight bezel

  • is this motor coming back? HURRICANE aka 7-7-7? trip7?

  • If the Hemi is the elephant engine, then this engine is the Whale engine!

  • mmmm 427sohc

  • how much would this cost, theoretical?

much is obvious, but how much in theory?

  • i mean how much would the Car, cost, in theory. sry misspelled.

  • that thing would destroy a chevy 427 ZL1 engine.

    427 SOHC 657 Horsepower @ 7500 RPM'S on 60's technology. That's insane!!!

  • Thats what Im saying! Baddest motor to come out of that generation!

  • I'm not even a Ford fan but this car redefines "muscle" car

  • so you CAN get a cammer between the shock towers.... mmm... now, if i were to get divorced, sell the house, maybe auction a kid or two on e-bay...

  • yea they relocated the shock towers....

  • Check out that monster sump at 52 secs..BEAST

  • Oh My God!!!!!
